How could I defeat chaos with my asrai army? In each battle he fields Archaon and destroys all in his way. EDITED: He also uses much cavalry and a hellcannon. |

I take it you play Wood Elves right?? If he uses Archaon it gets a lot tougher, but I have a wood elf list which Iīve used on 2 tournaments, & both of those tournaments I was up against Chaos & got 2 massacres (& I wouldnīt like to meet that list myself either). If you want to see it just ask. Also a Treeman w. the Spites can challenge him & hold him up for a couple of turns. |

Just ignore Archaon and attack the rest of his force. A character with spites can make old Archies job a lot tougher, especially if it's a treeman ancient like Snygge suggested. Treemen as a whole are a pain for chaos units(that strangle root attack is unreal.... stupid autohits...), as are dryads (units of 8 are flexable, fairly hardhitting, fast moving, and don't give away many VP's if they do get killed). Add in a unit of waywatchers to eliminate his knights and if above 3000pts an alter noble with bow of loren and arcane bodkins can mess up heavily armoured chaos troops and with his high movement and a greatweapon he can add a good amount of punch to a combat. A couple of units of wildriders and/or gladeriders to try and outflank him, along with your skirmishers should give him some headaches in the movement phase. |

I think Tamil is on the right track, don't try to face the Irresistable Force with force of your own, just move out of the way. The best way to deal with Archaon, or indeed any such character, is not to fight him. Tie him up, divert his charges, marchblock if possible. Keep him out of the fight. If you can do that, then a huge chunk of the enemies army is worthless, and you should be able to deal with the rest rather easily. It might not be that easy to do however, but with carefull planning you should be able to pull it off. |

Scouts would be a good start. Helping to march block Archaon and his Chosen Knights will be very helpful...create a point denial army...War Dancers and Dryads are very mobile and useful against Chaos...a Hero w/Hail of Doom Arrows and the Scouting rule is nice as well... As many have already stated, don't fight him on his terms...Archaon is no slouch and should be dealt with accordingly...you can simply bait him here and there, and give him some throw away units to go after while you mop up the rest of his Army... Remember that Archaon is a HUGE points sink for the Chaos Player, and as such you should be able to outnumber and out manovere him. |

This evening Derainth and me will have a battle. 8000 points asrai vs 8000 points of chaos. And chaos will field Archaon, Crom and Galsrauch. :( Derainth will focus in the advices given and try ambusher tactics while I will rely in my Eternal Guard as anvils (Banner of Loren and Rhymerīs Harp) and wild riders as hammer. And the player of chaos (2) that controls Arachaon says he will come for my commander. Tomorro I will tell what happened. |

My only really extra thought would be to CONCENTRATE FIRE!!! Don't bother with sending some arrows here, and bolts over there, etc...somewhere esle...take out the serious threats first and hit them with everything...use Scouts to keep Archaon busy and give him and his unit Failed Charges...they'll move only 7" instead of 14"... |

We won! Hawks helped a lot, and arrows killed many marauders and barbarian horsemen. But in the end they charged our battleline. It was mine in fact who supported the charge of Archie and 2 units of warriors of chaos. But the combo worked well, a Highborn with Rhymerīs Harp gave the Eternal Guard a 5+ ward save and the royal banner of loren made them immune to desmoralization in the turn of the charge. A wild riders unit charging in one flank and a Treemen in the other made the rest and the Swords of chaos fled. |

Way to go..... man it feels weird to root for Wood elves over chaos.... Hopefully this will show your friend that while cool, Archy isn't worth what you give up to include him in your army (855pts and 3 character choices? there are much effective things to take with all those points and slots). |

Congrats to the win. Hereīs my WE list for those who PM.ed me about it: Spellweaver: Lvl 4 upgrade, Ranu's heartstone, 2 dispelscrolls, Pageant of Shrikes. Noble: BSB, Annoyance of Netlings Noble: Alter Kindred, GW, Hail of doom Arrow. Core: 12 Gladeguard: Musician 12 Gladeguard: Musician 9 Dryads 9 Dryads 9 Dryads Special: 8 Wardancers: Musician 5 Wild Riders: Standard & musician Rare: 5 Waywatchers 1 Treeman Thereīs a few points left to play with, but those changes in nearly every battle/tournament, depending on what Iīm in the mood for. Most of the times I do however skip one dryad unit for a unit of treekin. |
