As I recently posted, 4 of us SoCal ROW guys went to the GMI Games & Collectibles RTT that was held this past Saturday...and there was a good amount of great players in attendance...from Keith French, to Stefan Viter, the return of Fred Whitney, Tom's High Elves, Big Q, Henry Herz, etc.... Well, one of the before mentioned players had an illegal list the last RTT we all played in there...and I called it out on Turn 2 of his and mine game during the Finals for 1st and 2nd place...though I didn't ask for him to be DQ'd because it could've been an honest mistake...I'm starting to doubt that now... Several of the other guys kept asking me if "His" list looked legal, if his Army was correct...since it was Chaos and that's my specialty, I took a quickl look at it...it did seem a bit troop heavy, but it was hard to tell without making it obvious that I was counting up his points...I went and took a quick look at his list and it wasn't done on Army Builder (neither was mine though) and the points all added up...so I left it at that...but something didn't seem right... So I called GMI Games on Sunday and asked if I could get a copy of everyone's lists, as I planned on posting them up on another site for some Tactica Info for some newer players there...and mentioned that his list still didn't seem right...but I'd check it out when I picked up the lists the following day... Monday comes, and I actually get a call from the shop owners, Robert and Kathrene, and they ask me how many points is "XXXX" per model and I tell them...then they ask me if I'm sure and is there any Erata that would change this points cost...and I told them that I was 100% positive that I was correct and that there is NO Erata anywhere to say otherwise...well, I guess my interest in "HIS" list perked there's as well, and they started to plug in his list to Army Builder...and it was showing a different points amount for a certain unit type/model....and thus his list total was incorrect and over...it was over by about 65pts... Now, 65pts really isn't a big deal I suppose, and it's not even a full unit in his list....but the point is that it was 65pts extra that none of the rest of the other players got...and it exceeded the Tournament parameters...it was ILLEGAL... Could this have been a casual mistake? Perhaps, but since he did have an Illegal list in his last RTT appearance there it makes you wonder,...and the fact that he's a "good" player and been playing Warhammer Fantasy for well over 6 or 7 years also makes me wonder even more...throw in the fact that he's EXTREMELY arguementative about the Rules and very COMPETITIVE when playing against other players... Now, we throw in something else...it seems that in his first game during Round 1 of the RTT, he played Vorpal's buddy Brian and his Vampire Counts...Brian hasn't played a game in about 2 years and thus very rusty on the rules and the such...and was very frustrated at the end of the game when his 9 Power Dice and 1 Bound Item where all Dispelled throughout the entire game...but "HIS" list only produced 3 Dispel Dice and had 1 "Dispel Scroll"... ... Maybe all of this wouldn't matter as much, but the fact that "HE" walked away with the Overall spot does make this a serious issue I feel!!! I feel like he robbed poor Brian of a potentially good game, and robbed Robert K. and his Lizards of a fair game, and robbed Big Quinton of a fair game and potentially the Overall mark, if not a higher placement than he had gotten...and robbed GMI Games of a rightful winner... THIS SUCKS!!!! If I didn't have a good control of my temper, I'd probably drive down to "HIS" neck of the woods, and smack the CRAP out of him! What do you guys/girls think? |

I'd say go ask the guy. Might be a little embarrasing to ask, and he might be insulted by your question, but it is fair to him to ask him the truth then make your own. It might look very suspicious, but as soon as you suspect some guy from doing something wrong, you seem only to see the bad things, and miss the good things, while you yourself are unaware of this! So just ask the guy, really. If he cheated, you deserve the fisrt place! |

I totally understand you, if someone was cheating against me, especially in a tournament, I would be pissed, the gae should be about fun & playing fair, not who cheats best. But as HayE said, just ask him, even if you know you´re right, sometimes you can miss something. |

Well, I'm definately going to call him out on it...he's way to experienced to have made such a mistake...and most of that experience is with Chaos...I'm sure once we bring it up to him, he won't offer to turn in his Overall Champ certificate or the prize...but as a side note just to clarify something, I wouldn't have taken 1st place either, as usual my half way painted Army just doesn't score high enough...my own fault...but I'm more frustrated that my buddy Billy should have won than!... We have another RTT scheduled there in March, I'm sure I'll see him there...and we'll definately bring this up... |
