Nordic theme army

Hello everyone. I didn't find a place to introduce myself at, so I'll just do it here then.

I've been searching for a place like this for a while now, as Warseer is just too big for me.

As the title says I'm planning on doing a army based on Nordic mythology and Vikings. Obviously the army will be based on lots of Marauders, but I'll also include some Gods (Odin and Tor at least), backed up by some mythological forces (Valkyries and Einherjer).

The army will not be WYSIWYG, and I'm doing anything possible without breaking any rules. I'll use Centigore rules for some elite cavalry (drunken ones :D ) and I think I'll make Crom lead the army (naturaly it won't be Crom but a mortal leader for my Vikings using Croms rules)

So what do you think about this? Is it too much and would you let me play it?

Any suggestions and ideas are welcome.

It would certainly be a cool themed army, depending on how well you converted the models to represent the Nordic mythologies you're trying to represent. I wouldn't mind playing againts such an army so long as you made it clear what things are and what they're supposed to be: i.e. Odin = Crom etc.

As an idea for your rowdy Viking cavalry, how about just plane old Marauder Horsemen? You won't get the drunken or Frenzy roll, but you can still put throwing axes on them if you wanted to.

Good luck with the list

I will use normal Marauder cavalry, but I want one unit of Centigors just for the fun of it.

And for Odin I think I'll use a Chaos lord on either Daemonic steed or a steed os Slaanseh with the Runesword and something else. I just have to convert four more legs to Archaons horse

I'd like him to have his horse, and if I get good enough at coverting the horse (and Odin) could look really great.

I like the idea. nothing wrong w. it at all, just make sure that you tell the opponent before the game what everything is.

For Viking berserkers you could use the Dogs of War unit Norsemen, which are basically normal marauders that are frenzied & use a smaller base!

Sounds like a good option, I have to check them out. Where can I find the rules for them?

Marauders use small bases? That's good news. But is it worth it putting characters in marauder units?

And what about throwing axes? Does anyone ever use them? str 5 on Centigors sounds good, but it's only range 6.

Normal marauders don´t use small bases, but the Norse marauders do, you can find the rules under Dogs of War on GW´s page.

Marauders need characters in the units to be able to win their combats, basically marauders provide ranks, outnumbering & a standard for characters, as well as protection from shooting.

Throwing Axes is only worth it if you have a few points to spare, & even then use it on marauder horsemen, because they can atleast march & then throw the axes, giving them a 22" effective range (Centigors can´t march & throw as they´re not fast cavalry, so therefore they only have an effective range of 14" & might get stupid at the wrong place, better to just charge w. them most of those times anyway)
