I must admit i have not actually read all of the above ( :P ), so if this has already been mentioned ignore it. Some forums use a system where by users have a rating out of five or ten, and the members score them and add a little comment, you can change your rating/comment of someone whenever you want. This may sound even worse than a post count system in terms of what LB is talking about, but at the end of the day if you are going to rank people in anyway surely doing so based on their esteem and contributions to the community is the best way? I'm not certain if this is even possible to implement on invision anyway, but still something to consider. If not then i agree with LB, acolite; a simple system based on the 'job' of the member is best. Great new graphics btw Bearer, i haven’t read the topic about the new special ranks and stuff but it sounds like your working really hard :D |

Well don't get me wrong Bearer, I support Cotec mythology and all that fully, but I don't want this to turn into another project that needs maintanance. You know what happens to projects like that. I am sorry to have to bring it up again, but only a fraction of Cotecs project become reality simply because there are to many of them, lets not make anotherone which serves no real purpose ;) Giving special titles to people who do special things, sure. Keeping track of some status system which needs manual labor to even function... no thanks. |

Actually the first time I read this thread, I was completely opposed to doing away with post counts in any form, because, not just from a higherarchy standpoint, but as a way of tracking your progress to yourself. I think most regular members to any forum know how in depth they go on most of their posts, and so they can either be proud and say, "wow, I finally reached 500 good quality posts that bettered the community", or end up being like "well, 500 posts and ive said the same 'good job' and 'funny haha' over and over again. I am a terrible person!" :P But after thinking about it, post counts aren't really important. Actually, this complete about-face of my opinion is probably due to the fact that I've only been on this forum for 20 days to the date, and i've posted 140 times... Trust me, I don't spam for post counts sake (actually I think im generally pretty insightful...), but if I seem like im spamming, well then just PM me or something. So now comes my idea: what if we just had the post count ONLY VISIBLE TO THE USER HIM/HERSELF? I would be dissapointed if we did away with post counts altogether, but I think less importance should be placed on them. This would be a way to satisfy both of my needs. Boy am I greedy  ;) kidding, I think that would be a good idea for everyone's sake What do you think? |

Now I like the idea, but sadly its not as easy to put into effect. I mean, who has the code? Though if we could, I would support this in a very egotistical "I worked hard for my 2,500 posts god damnit!" fashion and entirely miss the point of why we're hiding the post counts in the first place :P |

UE :P If I remember correctly you can look at your own post count via your profile there, but you cannot see it on the forum itself. |

Well if you find them in the memberlist, or top posters list, you can find anyone's post count. Its just that its not under their name with every single post, its still there though (and in fact, you can see it if the page doesn't load properly, as sometimes the filter that removes it is not activated) But I thought Gorgoth meant 'you can see it in your posts as normal' like the UE warning system is (i.e. you can only see your own warn level), which is much harder to do. But yeah, Mik's got the code to remove post count from your post profile, so go chase him down :D . Good luck with that though, they guys a frikkin Ninja! |

Easiest way would be to just hide the postcount, I mean deleting it or anything else won´t matter if they can´t see the postcount anyway. Yes I know that one could be able to check up how many posts a guy has, but if someone really likes counting posts that much, then let them do it. & ofcourse still reward players w. honourable titles if they do important or cool things for the site, for example help making a campaign, win the biggest CAoD tournament, or lead a faction to win in a campaign, stuff like that. |
