I havwe a few questions involving beast herds. Question#1: Do beast herds negate ranks? This has been a big discussion at my gaming area, some say no because they are skirmishers and others say yes because the can get rank bonuses. Question #2 How does green fire work on them? They are a mixed unit so it confuses me. Thank you! |

No, as they're skirmishers, they don't negate ranks <_< At question nr2, I don't remember how that spell works, so I can't help you there.. |

When Green Fire is cast on a mixed unit (such as a Beast Herd) troops attack others of the same type, so in this case gors attacks would be resolved against gors, ungor attacks against ungors. And yeah, as Avenger said, skirmishers can't negate ranks and no exception for this is included in the Beast Herd "Raiders" rule. |

I have a question as well even though I think I know the answer already. When a Beastmen character is in a Beast Herd can they then use the "Look out, Sir!" rule if they are shot at by cannons, bolt throwers, stone throwers etc.? I agreed with my opponent that it was not so in my last battle I played since a Dwarf player kept shooting at my poor Beastlord in a regiment and he almost died because of the constant shooting but I'd like to know if my decision was correct. |

No, he gets a look out sir roll just as if he had joined a non-skirmishing unit, nowhere in the rulebook does it say that characters joining skirmishers does NOT benefit from the rule. |

Well, I assumed Skirmishers were not a rank and file unit since it says in the book that "If a character is part of a unit consisting of five or more rank-and-fil models and is hit by such ranged attacks, roll D6". I am just a little confused how to understand rank-and-file at the moment. |

Ahhh yes, matter of language. Rank-and-file doesn't have much to do with actually being ranked... or filed, for that matter. It's more like, common troops. So if a character joined a unit of troops he gets the look out sir rule. I think that also means that things that aren't actually troops, such as war machine crew, don't give a look out sir roll even if there's more than 5 models? |

yes of course you can get rank bonus when u form up more than 5 wide when charging or being charged but if u are forming up 4 wide (i.e. to beat a single character or a monster) u cannot get rank bonus u can read the armybook and the faq on gw's errata page |
