Hmm, not sure about the hellcannon in this list, you also seem a bit too light on the hounds. Main problem is you have nothing to hold the table, marauders are very cheap, a unit or two could do wonders. As it is you can't really flank with your dragon ogres or knights since you don't have central blocks to threaten the centre of the board with. 4 Dragon ogres are great against some stuff but they will bounce off a ranked infantry unit if it has WS4 or more, and that's without any character in the enemy unit (average kills against WS4 would be 5, they have +5CR and musician, you lose. Second round they will be striking first as well). Also chariots tend to work better with infantry than cavalry in my experience. I would also say your list currently occupies magic no man's land, not enough investment to make your points back whilst still costing too many points and affecting the size of your army. You need to make a decision there methinks,go another mage or go scroll caddy. This will also help with picking your fights. A second nurgle mage would really help for assassinating (although less so against the pesky undead) and power familiar will bring yet another power die to the table giving you 12 in total, a decent number. Other things I would consider are: Making your disk sorcerer a better all rounder, give him the sword of might and let him have the option to kill something when you need it. 3S5 attacks is an awful lot better than 3S4. If you don't want to add in some infantry I would suggest swapping out the blasted banner (and maybe the MOT if you have to) for rapturous standard so you can have a unit to act as the centre of your army that can hold long enough for you to set up flank charges and the like. Even so, your list isn't that bad, the hellcannon and spawn have little calue in a cavalry list IMO but I think it's partly that your opponent has a bit of a trick list. Your marauder cavalry don't have much they can do in this list against ethereal flankers. One other thing about the marauder cavalry, if you want them armoured get light armour instead of the shield so you keep the 5+ save in combat with the 2 handed flails. Or just drop armour altogether and keep em cheap. Also remember against VC you have two decent options: 1) kill the characters (easier said than done but chaos can certainly give it a go) 2) Annihilate the units. By this I mean you must concentrate on one unit at a time and absolutely destroy it and tie the other units as long as possible so you can butcher them one at a time. 6 knights+bsb on disc+sorcerer lord (and horsemen in the flank if you can manage it, but we can;t assume that one) should allow you to kill 10 ghouls or 15 skeletons and with US, banner, bsb notch up +6-10CR more than your opponent meanign the unit will be gone or damaged beyone repair. Hitting their line seperately with your units will likely result in a loss against a magic heavy list since they can raise as fast as you can kill them and the vampires or magic or support units will start chipping at your knights and each one that falls means less CR and eventually you will likely break. Incidentally whilst the black tongue is useful sometimes against VC I don't thing its worth the points or the magic item slot in an all-comers army. Just my opinions, haven't had many games in myself yet and none against VC so feel free to add pinches of salt :) |
