Ophidicus Slaaneshi champion was my favourite as soon as I saw it, the flames on the helmet are very well done, but what I liked the most was the subtle highlights on the armour, using grey! It looks very realistic.

I think mad lamb's Lord of Khorne is a worthy winner as well, while not being my second favourite (I liked the Tzeentchian warrior & the Shaggoth better), it still has some very nice details you need skills to achieve such as the NMM on the silver, good highlighting as well as the source lighting.

I'm surprised it's a tie. The blending on mad lamb's is superb, even if you don't like the color, you have to acknowledge the technique. Ophidicus has great detail work, but highlighting and fine line is a lot easier than non-metal metallic. The pounded gold on the chaos steed harness is fantastic. A painting competition should be about technique more than color choice, especially in something as wild as chaos! That's my two cents anyway.

Congratulations to both winners and the runner up!

i have to agree between the two the slaanesh champion was the clear winner (even if i didnt like the skin), i think that post i pointed out summed it up, people wernt voting on painting but the person who did the most conversion work.

Snygg you made me happy atleast :)

I think you have a good point about the conversions, Kormak. Golden Daemon is the same, I think that converted models look more original, which makes them appeal more than standard GW sculpt.

... and the Slaanesh character was my favourite of the two as well.

I definitely think that Ophidicus', of the two, was a much better model. NMM is a very difficult painting style and if it's not done just right, it doesn't look quite right...and no offense to mad but I don't think he quite hit the "gold" look. Not that I'm any great painter to begin with, but there was a serious lack of depth to the "gold". I saw a very nice shading effect on the red, on the hound's teeth, and on the "silver" of the character's weapon. But the "gold" really killed it for me.

Ophidicus did a nice job on the free-hand effects on the shield, with the gold on the armor, and on the flames on the tabard and helm. And on top of that all it was a nice and clean paint job. Very tidy and neat...sort of the overly clean effect that you'd expect of a vain Slaaneshi champion.

BTW...which one was Kormak's? Was it the other Elf-slayer? Sorry...can't recognize people's work. :P

No really, im yet to see something win golden daemon that wasnt well painted, the thing with golden daemon is its voted on painting and then its decided on conversion work and to be fair the Khorne champion isnt a complex conversion either, its a head swap and a weapon with a dog and a chain stuck on a base. It looks pretty cool but it dosnt have that wooh factor.

To be honest i many of the newer models dont need that much conversion because they are that cool, godless conversion was far more interesting for example, it changed the model in a more imaginative way.

I'll have to get round to writing the tutorial I thought about maybe planning if I could ever be bothered ages ago, Ophidicus' Guide to Painting Stuff Black. Painting Stuff Black is one of my favourite things. One for a coming End Times methinks.

Cheers again to all the people who liked my model, it certainly cracks a smile from my otherwise sternly rigid face.
