This week brings us to the Beasts. I was able to complete Khazrak this week, so I expect to start the topic, Mousekillers Beast Herd in the next 24 hours! Very exciting. I am including a WIP pic of him after I made the repair to his whip, so that you can see how it was done. I also completed two more of the herd, rounding us out to 5 completed with 10 more to go (I found three Reaper miniatures that I think fit perfectly with the unit and give it a little more variety). Also, pieced together 3 Minotaurs to be qued up for painting now that Khazrak is done! Hope you enjoy the update this week! On a side not, please be very critical on all pieces, I am definitely trying to improve, and I don't take offense easily! Oh, and I also spent a lot of time this week updating some of the story lines, particularly for the Dwarves, Night Goblins, and, shortly, the Beasts. Also, since some of my older pics seem a bit blurry I am considering going back in the threads and editing the older blurry pics with new, focused pics so if you get bored feel free to take a gander. It will be a slow process, and definitely won't all happen at once. I will start with orcs and goblins since some of their pictures are the oldest. Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image ORCS AND GOBLINS: As part of a challenge at DAWARPATH over Christmas, I completed a Goblin Spear Chukka in less than 24 hours... so I suppose when I put my mind to it it is possible to complete a mini in less than 2 months! No other updates, but I will try to get some things done with the army this week as it is up for the update next week. OGRES/BRETONNIA: No updates. MORTALS/DAEMONS OF CHAOS: No updates. SKAVEN/LIZARDS: No updates. EMPIRE: No updates. VAMPS/TOMB KINGS: No updates. HIGH/WOOD/DARK ELVES: No updates. DWARFS: Based and primered the 6 thunderers. Until next week! |

This week brings us to the Orcs and Goblins, personally one of my favorite armies that I am painting! Just so much character in these figures, and such a huge range to choose from! Anyway, this week, I was sooooo close to finishing the wolfs and the night goblin boss, but it will take just a little longer to finish some of the smaller details and to get the water effect just right on the wolves. Any last minute advice on them PLEASE get in the comments in the next 24 to 48 hours as I plan to try and get them done in that timeframe. On Orcs 2 and 3 it is pretty much just base coats... going to have to start taking them seriously pretty soon because seeing them all ranked up nicely like that just does not scream Orc warriors to me... going to have to do something to really get them chaotic (in the orderly sense) looking. Also, need to find their command group,,, I am sure I have some appropriate models somewhere. For the Night Goblin Boss, he is really close to being done, just some very minor details that I missed on him that I need to hit (a piece of his cloak, some of the armour bits that I decided to color mid painting, etc). On the Giant, just the leather straps and the lion head got some attention. Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image OGRES/BRETONNIA: Did some leather bits on Ironguts 1 and 2. Primered and based Pegasus Knight 1. MORTALS/DEMONS OF CHAOS: No updates. SKAVEN/LIZARDS: No updates. Primerd and based Skink 1. EMPIRE: No updates. VAMPS/TOMB KINGS: No updates. Primered and based the Tomb Prince. ELVES: Primered and based HE Archer 1. Also, hit the model with a base coat to get in idea of where to go with it. Right now, I am looking at a green white combo, we'll see. I want to do something a bit different than the normal blue/white... especially since that is my primary colors for the dwarfs. DWARFS: Prepared a base for the Anvil model. BEASTS: No updates. Till next week! |

This week brings us to an Ogre update and the very first update for Bretonnia. I did not get nearly as much done as I had hoped, and won't get anything done this coming up week as I will be completely out of the loop for work... so the next update will be two weeks from now. In any case, I got the Pegasus Knight base coated for the most part, really just trying to figure out what colors I want to use. Right now I am thinking red and yellow, with black and white accents. Was thinking to use a standard design across the army, as the story line is going to center around a crusader type army, but I think the cross is not so much fitting. It is supposed to be a fantasy army, so I will have to dig up an original design with the same concept, maybe using the lady of the lake as the centerpiece for the "religious" bit. Any suggestions? Posted Image Posted Image On the Ogres, I got the whites, purples and skin pretty much where it needs to be, probably another highlight on those. The red is just base coated, as is the wood bits, and metals. So, still lots and lots to do to get them finished, but I should be there by the next Ogre update. Posted Image Posted Image Mortals/Daemons of Chaos: Primed and based a bloodletter model. Posted some pictures of the gargoyles that were originally made for my Chaos Undivided army before the rules change a few years back, still a unit that I have a lot of pride in. As I mentioned, I won't be around for the update next Sunday, but I intend to try and get the Demon prince and five marauders completed before then. Skavens/Lizards: No painting updates. For the lizards, I am going to go for realistic reptilian colors, so the entire army won't be a singular scale color, if that makes sense. Looking at pics of skinks on line, the most common is a blue skink, some with bright tails and black stripes so I will likely go with that angle. Suggestions? Empire: No updates. Vamps/Tomb Kings: No updates. Elves: No updates. Dwarves: No updates. Beasts: No updates. I need to get the thread up with more pics of Khazrak and his individual background story. Orcs and Goblins: Pulled out an Orc Warboss model to paint and be in charge of that huge mob of orcs. Also, pulled out a snotling pump wagon, will try to get it put together. I need to post the updated pics of the wolf riders, night goblin boss, and a chariot model that I painted a few years back that I am adding to the army. See you in two weeks! |

The trip went really well, I wish I could talk more about it, but suffice it to say it was a huge success. Of course, between that and coming down with the crud, I did not get nearly as much done as I had wanted, but I did get something done. I finished Abyst, so I will get him posted up in the Demons Army page in the next day or so. For Marauders 11-15 the only thing left is bone, base, and sharpen up the metallic a bit, but they are pretty close to done, then on to the last 5 to complete the unit. The Ogre is getting pretty close as well, same items left to get done, then on to #2 of 3. The Bloodletter only has a basecoat of red and brown with a wash of black so far. Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image No updates for any of the other armies, but I will list them anyway so I don't lose track of which army is next! Skaven/Lizards Empire Vampire Counts/Tomb Kings Elves Dwarves/Chaos Dwarves Beasts Orcs and Goblins Ogres/Bretonnia See you next week! TvetovNato: Three cheers! |

This weeks update brings us to skaven and lizards. On the Skaven Lord, I finished up the rat skin saddle bits, both underneath the rider and in front where the chains connect to. I also added another highlight to the skin, but still not completely happy with it. Needs more gore! On the skaven troopers, I did up the bases for the next two and applied a skin and brown base coat. The skink test model is pretty much done, some very minor details to touch up... thoughts? Is it the right direction? I have a suspicion that I will use other colors for other units, or at least between the types of lizard troops. Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image So, whats up next and what else did I get done (not much): Empire Vampire Counts/Tomb Kings Elves Dwarves/Chaos Dwarves Beasts Orcs and Goblins Ogres/Bretonnia Warriors/Daemons of Chaos See you next week! |

This week proved to be another with very little done, maybe about 3 hours of painting total. Brings us to the empire update. For the mortar crew I worked the red and yellow wood bits on the mortar, worked the white bits, added some skulls to the front of the mortar. On the hero, I hit the white bits again an worked the armor a little. On the knights, I worked the armor a little bit. For the banner bearer, I started working what might become the banner, depending on how it turns out and the reviews it gets here. This is my first banner that I am making on parchment, so we will see. So far, its just a base coat, and obviously needs highlights and outlines. Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Coming up next: Vampire Counts/Tomb Kings Elves Dwarves/Chaos Dwarves: Base coated the 6 gunners, going to try and knock them all out in one go. This week gets us back to Tomb Kings and Vampire Counts. The right leg (as it is in the mini, not as you see it), and the right arm are complete- the rest of him still needs some polish but those two bits are what the rest of him will end up looking like. Still not sure about the glowing green on the inside of him... maybe if I go back and turn the red gem on the lower sword to green? For the Tomb Prince, pretty much just base coated. Was trying to get a feel for the colors. On Skeles 1-3, I worked the weapons and metal bits up with some rust. I thought they were done, but looking at the pics I think the need something more. Finally, I pulled out a skeleton champion to add to the VC army. Well, this week brings us to the first ever Elves update! Keep in mind that these three miniatures still have a LOT of work left before they are done... but I am already a week and a day late in posting. One other note, I do not like the white background... but also wanted to try something different from the grey The Wood Elves get a treeman, made by Ultraforge Miniatures. So far, he has a few browns and quite a bit of grey, but this big guy is going to be a lot of work. Posted Image For the Dark Elves, I have chosen an older Games Workshop Sorceress. So far, I have fleshed out the flesh and purples, but both still need a lot of work. Posted Image For the High Elves, we are starting with a unit of shooters. Not sure if I am in love with the color scheme, seams like he needs something more... maybe after I get everything else colored up. Want to deviate from the blue color scheme, but we will see... Posted Image So, thoughts or critiques? Up next: Dwarves/Chaos Dwarves Beasts Orcs and Goblins Ogres/Bretonnia Warriors/Demons Skavens/Lizards Empire Tomb Kings/Vamps Vantraxx: Thanks! CD coming next week. |

So, this past week (ok ok, TWO weeks), I have been working up Dwarfs again. The first that need to get done are the shooters, so the front three are pretty close (still need the leather bits, metal bits, and accessories done), and the back three are just base coated. These 6 will round out the unit to 16, which is a pretty nice number to balance the 16 crossbows that I already have. Also, Kragg the Grimm got some love. I thought I was getting close with his beard, but from the picture it looks like it needs a lot more contrast. Other than that, the entire model still has a LONG way to go. The stone thrower and crew got a base and a primer coat, as did the Chaos Dwarf Bull Centaur. Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Any thoughts or comments welcome! Up next: Beasts Orcs and Goblins Ogres/Bretonnia Warriors/Demons Skavens/Lizards Empire Tomb Kings/Vamps Elves Vantraxx: They are coming back soon my friend, I promise! Madlamb: Thanks mate! |

So, I suppose that I can just pretend like I have not been gone for almost a year... Will anyone notice if I just pick up where I left off? Sorry guys! I have been busy this year though. I got married, am having my first baby, and switched to a new job. That is no excuse, I know! I have still painted a little... not nearly as much as I should have. Also, I am really upset with Games Workshop... I don't really care what they do with the game style but if you recall, I base all of my paintings on the story and world that they had created! Now they have completely destroyed that world. So, if it is perfectly fine with you all, I will stay in the world that was! That being said, I do like that they divide the armies into force types now (sort of like the old alignment system), so when I do my WIP updates I will do them in the following five categories: Neutral - Lizards, Dwarfs, Wood Elves Order - Empire, Bretonnia, High Elves Chaos - Beasts, Demons, Warriors of Chaos Death - Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts, Dark Elves Destruction - Orcs and Goblins, Ogres, Skaven I don't think that I forgot anyone, but if I did than I will add them into the appropriate category. So, to kick it off again, we will hit up a Neutral update. Mostly, I have been working on Dwarfs. Lots of Dwarfs. I finished a catapult and some reinforcements for the hand gunners, so I will post those updates against the Dwarf Army thread in the near future. I also finished a little work on the treeman, who will be the initial center piece of the wood elf army and a good way to get them started. Other than the original skink, I haven't really dabbled with the Lizards, but I need to get something start that I am motivated to finish soon. Started these old GW miniatures, originally dubbed as Bugmans Rangers. I have 17 of them total, so I will have to dig through my Reaper bits to find some appropriately sized companions to round us out to 20. The first is pretty much done, need to add snow and do another blue highlight. The second is close, have to finish his shield (not in the picture), the leather bits, and the metal parts. Of course the third only has a base of blue on it, and the fourth has a layer of primer that was applied almost 10 years ago. Posted Image The next is the forge. This was a repaint, from long ago. I have worked up the wheels on one side, the warriors in the front. Lots more to do on this one. It is in a few pieces right now, which is why some of it may look tilted (the carriage, the anvil, the two warriors, and the hero on top. Posted Image Also started this Hero. Have to work the metal, a bit more on the blue cape I think (it seems like it needs some sort of flair, suggestions??), and some pouches and other little things. Posted Image Posted Image Then we have some Dwarfs from the Mantic range. I think they are going to fit in well. Side by side they are less robust and a little taller (especially against classic GW and some Reaper minis), but as a unit they will be fine. Posted Image And I have a unit of 10 pig riders from the Dwarf Wars range by Westfall Miniatures. I have wanted to paint these for quite some time, but since there was no room for them in the armies of old Warhammer I waited. Thanks again GW for giving me complete artistic freedom to change the old world into whatever I want! The blue and white on the cheeks and the striped pants were afterthoughts, so I am still working them up. Need to finish the blue highlights on these, plus the metal bits, wood bits, and leather bits. Posted Image Posted Image Finally, the treeman for the Wood Elf army. I have, for the most part, finished his back side. Started on the front, but if you see the back that is how the front will end up. Debating on adding foliage or not... Posted Image Posted Image I have done work on a bunch of other things, but I will update them in the perspective week. For me, the story is as important as the painting, it really gives life to my miniatures as I add color to them. If anyone is interested as to why these three races will be neutral: The Dwarfs will fight for gold, but for the most part prefer to stay within the mountain holds and not involve themselves in mankinds business. Lizards, although the Slann are majestic creatures, I feel govern much the same way - sticking to themselves. And Wood Elves, unlike the High Elves, retreated to the forests to get away from the world. So, to me, these three races represent the races who, if left to their own devices, would not bother the world one bit but if pulled into conflict will fight to the bitter end. Anyway, next week we will update the armies of Order! Until then my friends, and I am happy to be back! MK |

This week brings us to: Order - Empire, Bretonnia, High Elves And up next: Chaos - Beasts, Demons, Warriors of Chaos, Chaos Dwarfs Death - Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts, Dark Elves Destruction - Orcs and Goblins, Ogres, Skaven Neutral - Lizards, Dwarfs, Wood Elves So, this week I pulled out the old WIPs from the Order armies and started working. First up, we have Prince Imrik and his faithful dragon. This will be the first dragon I have ever painted. So far, he is pretty much covered in basecoat to define the color direction I want to go in, with the exception that I worked the red up just a little bit. Does anyone know a company that still sells larger square bases? I would like to put him on a 60mm by 100mm. I will have to sink the base he is on now into the new base scenery somehow, because he is solidly connected! I tried prying him off and the feet broke in three places. Posted Image Next up, I am still not quite happy with my High Elf test model. Would red be a better color than blue for the sash? Also, I changed the tint of the white from a gray to a more blue undertone. Need to bring the greens out some. Other thoughts? I want to have this test model done before the next order update. Posted Image On to the Empire! The forces of Sigmar are getting lots of reinforcements. First, the Warrior Priest I have been working on for a while. I added a twin tailed comet to his shirt, need to work that up. Thinking of adding a black one to the underside of the cape as well. Have to add some script to the open pages of the book, then everything needs more highlights! This is a Reaper Warlord model, anyone remember the name of it? Posted Image Wizards! I have two from about two years ago that never got finished. They are not far off, except a few things I want to change now. On the Heaven wizard, he just needs some shading and highlighting all around. I am pretty happy with the colors unless you have suggestions. The fire wizard though... I think that his pants and shirt need to be darker, like black and the outer robes need to be a darker red color. Right now he is just too bright! The flames will be bright, his clothes shouldn't be glowing. Thoughts? Posted Image The Mortar. This is really close to done. Worked up the metal bits, but I just need to finish the little details on the crew and highlight the red a little more, then do something fancy to the base. I should have this wrapped up before the next Order update. Suggestions? Posted Image The Knights Panther. Worked on knight 4. Did the hatch work of the blue and highlighted the armour a bit. Need to finish the cape, base, and some small details and we will have four of these guys done. Oh, and fish out a shield for him. Then only 5 more to go, should have them all done in no less than 5 or 6 years. Posted Image Flagellants. These are new old editions to the paint table. I had painted two as test models a long time ago (like 10 years or so), back when I still used gloss coat to protect them! Anyway, they are getting a redo. Worked up the robes, still needs a wash and some highlighting on them. The plan with the robes is to paint them all with the same brown tones, but vary the wash color between browns and reds to give them a uniform yet varied look. All the rest is just base coat so far. Thoughts? Posted Image And finally, the forces of the Lady. These knights... I feel like the knights themselves should come across as bright (which is not the way I normally paint), so that is what I am going for with the colors. I need to do something completely different with the shield emblems... maybe use horizontal stripes? Posted Image Well, time to pull out the forces of Chaos for next weeks update, see you then. MK |
