A question to the crowd: It's a 1500 pt game and you* have decided to take one (and exactly one) Sorcerer. We'll leave Mark and mount out of it because I don't have an option there (all my guys have the Mark of Tzeentch and ride Discs), but which level do you go with and which magic items / gifts do you give him? I've been running trials with my tournament army and I have yet to come up with a combo that I felt was doing anything. I've so far only tried level 2s, with the Book + Power Familiar (he went BOOM in turn 3), Death's Head + Power Familiar (okay-ish) and Dispel Scroll + Power Stone (a bit crap). Having achieved very little in three battles, I'm tempted to just go with a level 1 scroll caddie with the Bloodcurdling Roar. What would you take in my situation? * That is to say, I, but you get the idea ;) |

are your disc characters being shot a lot? Golden eye is always nice for that but since you said most of your characters are riding around on disc I assume someone has that. If you have a single sorc, in under 2k games I would think the power familiar + book of secrets is a good combo, but personally I feel the book is risky unless you have another sorcerer with the puppet. A safer build might be the rod of torment and third eye of tzeentch. The rod is expensive, but it will either eat a dispel dice or do some damage every turn and not be a risk for miscasts. Third eye is nice for if you roll flicking fire and then a spell that is situational, you will have the option of using your opponents magic + the rod. Personally I am more of a fan of the lore of death / fire / nurgle on level 2's, but if your theme is all tzeentch characters you will have to work with what ya got. |

On another forum someone suggested Book + Scroll + Roar and just making him a dedicated missile guy. How does that sound? My Disc riders don't get shot a whole lot, happily, as a 20" move means they can mostly get to places where they are difficult to target. |

That's not a bad setup! If you do that, keep him at level one and mark him tzeentch. Give him a disc and use him as a mobile harrasser! With the book and the No1 spell from the lore of tzeentch you get two magic missiles; one cast on one die, the other on 2. It could work. Normally though, at this level if your not taking another sorcerer it is probabally more cost effective to just take a level1, on foot, no mark and 2 scrolls! Just my opinion though ^_^ |

He'd even have two dice for each spell (1 from sorcerer, 1 from book, 2 from pool) which will almost never let him fail the spells. I am running two lvl 1 Tzeentch sorcerers atm with great effect (book, power familar and rod of torment). They dish out 4 magic missiles a turn, paired with a unit of warriors with the banner of wrath that's 5 magic missiles that will be cast. And it is very cheap. Greetings Eta |

Normally, I would echo what Eldritch said (unmarked scroll caddy), but in a 1500 pt game, you might actually get some spells off, so... Level 2, Tzeentch, Disc, Golden Eye, Book of Secrets, Bloodcurdling Roar. Causes fear, is fairly well protested, and gets around quickly in order to let loose 3 different ranged attacks. |

I am not so sure about the book of secrets, while it does provide an extra spell from one of three lores, rolling only 1D6+1 makes it more likely that when you miscast it will damage you more so than with 2D6. |

Love the idea of a lord with 3 magic missiles. Jumping around like a ninja with that disc. I say give em a good ward save (+3) and you'll be fine. Or if he is just a lvl 1 or 2 just give him the Golden eye and hope Tz is looking out for you. A miscast will hurt but I think that will be your best shot. In any case I think you'll be a pain in the ass on the flank. I'll be trying out the cheap version of this tomorrow. 235 pts Tz, disc, lvl 2(very optional), golden eye, blood curdling, book I'll probably post the results. |

I started reading this and a couple of posts into the thread I thought "Wtf? These guys have got it all wrong." Then I checked when the posts were made. Seriously OPwarhound, how many pages of threads did you have to go through to find one that was 1,5 years old... and then post in it? |
