So I got my game tonight; I ended up losing :( Mainly because my level 4 blew himself up along with a good chunk of 2 units and then in the last turn of the game 3 swordmasters made a 16" charge into a crucial combat and earned him over 400 points winning him the game. You win some, you lose some!

Anyhow, one thing it did prove to me again was the power of tzeentch magic.

As such I think I may well put my 3k list to this:

LORD:
Sorcerer lord(lvl4)+MoT+disc+arm o dest+necro phy+BoT+3rd eye+bcr=445

HEROES:
Ex hero(BSB)+MoT+shield+tals o pres+biting blade=200
Ex hero+halberd+MoT+book o sec+drag helm+tals o prot+con hom=194
Throgg

CORE:
19 warriors+MoT+shields+fc+rap std=374
18 warriors+MoK+shields+halberds+fc+ban o eternal flame=376
50 marauders+MoK+gw+fc=300
29 marauders+MoT+shield+fc=185

5 Knights+MoK+m+sb=260

This is quite a friendly list really considering all of the maruaders!

The tzeentch lord should be hard to kill and with bcr can also help take out knights, fast cav etc.

The book of secrets exalted will take shadow (mm) to help tilt things in my favour.

The khorne warriors are my new answer to HPA, hydras etc. Plus the horde of khorne marauders should be fun :P

The dogs are there cos even though originally I thought they were worthless, now I may be changing my mind. They are useful extra drops in deployment and can be used to get in the opponents way as well ;)

The rest is pretty self explanatory. So what do you think? Friendly but still competitive?

Got a game last night with the above list. I played against a lizardmen army.
His army consisted of: life slann, lord on carnosaur, saurus heroes, 20 TG, 30 saurus, 18 saurus, skink priest, numerous skink skirmisher units, salamanders, 8 CO cavalry, terradons.

This was my first experience facing a life slann in the 8th edition and it was a bit of a learning curve!!

I won't go into all of the battles details but suffice to say I lost, but not by much, only about 250 odd points! I was pretty pleased with that as luck wasn't with me this game.

Anyhow, I'll run down how I think the units did:

Sorcerer lord: Well he survived, but he really wasn't amazing. Even though I got all of the "good" spells in the lore of tzeentch he didn't really do that much damage to the enemy. He certainly didn't earn his points back. I don't think I'll run him again as he's to many points for what he does. I did find out how useful blood of tzeentch is though. It's great. I heartily recommend it for a sorcerer, unless you've taken the puppet already ;)
Next I'm gonna try heavens like some other people here have suggested and see how that goes.

BSB: Never made it to combat but helped steady the line when necessary. A must have in every army.

Ex hero with BoS: Did ok but again never made it to combat. Having him cast MM from shadow was great though. It helped out a couple of times. Also I realised how nice it is to have another caster in the army. The main reason for this is in case you mess up your casting or dispel rolls from your level 4!
With this in mind I may re-write my list to include another sorcerer.

Throgg: Unfortunately did nothing this game. He and his unit got humped by a front and flank charge. Normally he's good though but am considering changing him out for Festus ;)

Tzeentch warriors: Again, never made combat but proved reliable once again. The rock of my army.

Khorne warriors: Proved they don't need a character to do well. They took on the carnosaur lord over the course of about 4 turns after being weakened already by the salamanders. By the end of the game there was only the standard bearer left fighting the saurus lord, who was now on foot! Awesome B) Unfortunately the flaming banner never came into play this game. Is it worth keeping it on them?

Khorne Maruders: Apart from scaring my opponent didn't do much. They were facing off against the CO cav for most of the game but I couldn't get close enough quickly before dwellers below halved the unit! Then the cavalry charged in for the kill and they just died :( Not a good first outing but I'm sure they'll get better as I learn how to use a unit this big!

Tzeentch marauders: Didn't do much, but I continue to like them as a back-up unit.

Trolls: Got stuffed like Throgg :( I didn't use them well this game but I am beginning to wonder if I can use the points better elsewhere...

Warhounds: Did nothing! I know I saw the use as redirecters but in general I think they're useless. Will probabally be dropped again!

Khorne knights: Didn't achieve a lot out on a flank and only the standard bearer survived the game.
I have kept them in for old times sake, and also to have a fast unit, however I am now considering if they may need replacing to, by say chariots?

Hellcannon: Unfortunately did little damage this game due to it deciding to eat all its crew and then fail monster reaction and sit in that spot for the rest of the game, firing wildly at the enemy!! However it did worry my opponent and that is a GOOD thing :P


I talked with my opponent and another friend after the game and it made me think about my list again.
I've had a bit of a re-think and come up with this possible list:

Festus

19 warriors+MoT+shields+fc+rap std=374

49 marauders+MoK+gw+fc=295
26 marauders+MoT+shield+fc=170

SPECIAL:
18 chosen+MoT+shields+halberds+fc+fav o gods+wailing banner=465

5 Knights+MoK+m OR 2x chariots

RARE:
Hellcannon
warshrine

Festus would go in the khorne marauder horde and the sorcerer lord in the tzeentch marauder bunker.

So what do you guys think?
