Greetings all.

Just starting up my 8th edition army and decided to try and dip everything using "The Army Painter" Quickshade.

So far.

And the first batch of Chaos Warriors.
Had to do the horns over (white and the Dark Tone dip don't mix).
Also added a highlight on the banner and I had some pooling issues around the boots and leg armor.

The Warriors painted up pretty quickly using the dip.

Do you brush on or shake off?

Curious as to which method is better.

I brush my dip on with a fairly broad brush.
I find it is easier to control pooling and the distribution of the dip on the model.

Nice results :) I have just finished my first khorne marauder complete with quickshade, I really like the results!

I did notice what you said about pooling at the feet and at certain parts on the model as well. I think I'll give painting it a go next time like you suggest. I guess you getter control this way.

Question for you though: Do you apply any gloss/satin/matt varnish after the quickshade or not bother?

While I do think you can see a model has been dipped (& that takes away a little bit of the wow factor) I do think that it is a great way of getting a playable army that does look better than a sloppy paintjob.
Your unit of warriors however does give me the wow factor, they look great despite that you can see they have been dipped, since the choice of colours is perfect for a dipped army!

It's hard to get over the stigma of a "dipped" army, but jeez those look good.

Imagine all the time I'd get back....

Really sorry to sound naive but how does the dip work? is it just like a wash? what do you have to do beforehand? as in it just just put over a basecoat or is it a final level after all shading/highlighting stages?
I do sound like a real 'tard here but as a long time painter (about 15 years) ive only really used gw products so this is quite new to me, and it looks very impressive!!
Thanks

If I recall correctly from what I've read you paint on all the base colors and then dip the model and obviously put some protection stuff on as well.

I am really not that keen on dipping, its for things like marauders, woodies and beastmen, I wouldn't however use it things like chaos warriors.

I think I would only for the fact I actually want my army to look better than I could paint it.
