Point effective Champions

Actually I'm just wondering what kind of Combos you guys usually use with your Exalted Champions and BSBs. And have anybody tried 'expendable exalteds'? By that I mean cheap champions which pack a punch but can be sacrificed because of the low cost. I have a friend who plays High Elves and he field 3 heroes on foot with great weapons and Heavy Armour and they are like 99pts a piece or something. Point effective as hell. So I just wonder if we WoC players could do the same.

Examples:

Exalted
MoK
Helm of Many eyes
Shield
- 155pts

Exalted
Shield
Steed
Dawnstone
Sword of Might
- 176 pts

Exalted
MoK
Additional Hand weapon
Helm of Many Eyes
- 154 pts

And I also wonder what you think is the best setup for heroes. Aggressive or defensive?

Thanks ;)

I'm not really sure that any exalted could be called "point effective". But we get what we pay for. At WS7, S5, T4, I6, A4, and a base save of 4+, we're already well above and beyond what all other armies get in a hero. The thing w/ HE that makes those cheap nobles so good is the Speed of Asuryan rule. They have I7 so they WILL be hitting you first - and with rerolls to boot. But they are only S4 (6 w/ the GWs) and T3.

If you want a points effective exalted, just don't trick him out w/ a whole lot of equipment. The basic shield would work along w/ the MoT so that he get's the 5++ in HtH. Maybe give him the dragonhelm to boost his AS to 2+. That's a farily cheap and hardy exalted that clocks in around 135pts.

If it's the ASF that worries you, then, sure, get the HoME - but then you start to ring up a price tag. And if you're going to do that, you may as well give him a GW as it will allow you to roll in I order yet.

If you give him HoME and a great weapon, does he still get to reroll hits if his I is high enough?

No, ASF + ASL = nothing. He won't even strike first anymore, he'll just wield the GW like it was a normal one.

Nope. Just the pasty face cheese eating Asur get that ability :P

I've been using:

Exalted
MoK
steed
Sword of Swift Slaying
Potion of Strength
5pts re-roll armor once (name?)

I find he can eat through the high toughness targets my knights have trouble hurting...and I finally get to roll on the EOTG table!

The bringer of pestilent rages.
I fail to see how your friend can run an exalted as being 99 points...seeing as with just a great weapon they're 120 points before marks or anything.

By my reckoning, an exalted needs to fulfill a specific purpose in (like a BSB!) army builds otherwise I feel he's wasted points....

His ws is only 2 higher than a warrior, his toughness is exactly the same, his AS is the same basic 4+, his initiative is only one higher....he gets two additional attacks...all for his base cost.

For that same base cost naked exalted I can buy 6 warriors with shields and halberds, which ends up being more durable with 6 wounds, nearly 3x as many attacks and they contribute to steadfast/ SCR in the form of a rank....I fail to see how a foot hero who's only purpose (other than to look sweet) can measure up to that. Heck for that 120 great weapon exalted I can buy 3 Knights....that's better than half a unit right there.

It's just warriors are too good, particularly because exalteds aren't THAT huge a jump in surviving incoming attacks compared to a regular warrior, and given the choice between shaving off a couple of guys at the back or nabbing 120 points of hero who has to challenge in an edition where unit champions can choose to decline with no ill-effect...i'd take the free points every time.

That said, my BSB is having a fun time running around with a shield, dragon helm, opal amulet and the sword of swift slaying; I actually keep him in a unit of 49 marauders running about in horde formation.....or in a deep column to surprise people the turn before combat :D

High Zar of Khorne

My Bsb is a Khorne exalted on steed, wielding halberd, Helm of Many Eyes & the Opal Amulet, been quite point-effective.

My general is usually also my scrollcaddie, Exalted of Tzeentch, Book of secrets, Dispel Scroll & a normal shield for a decent 3+ armour & a 5+ ward.

As for going with naked exalteds, well tbh since our characters already cost over 100 pts I don't think that is the path to go, however I do find that many ppl overload our characters going with the full amount of magic items & gifts, something that is usually overboard imo.

His friend isn't running a 99pt exalted - he's running a 99pt HE noble
