neither of these... either you get your dragon stuck into combat, and then both these lords are not as effective as they could and should be, or you're going to take a lot of artillery fire, wich is frankly not a good prospect for either of these lords either. Going for a 3+ ward save vs shooting for your mage or a 3+ ward save overall for your lord seems recommended to me. Didn't take a dragon into a battle in 8th yet, don't plan to do so either, but I'ld equip him to either take shooting or CC hits. |

Never put a Sorcerer lord on dragon. Waste of points. Either it gets into combat and the sorcerer cant cast as efficiently or you stay out of combat and the points spent on the dragon are wasted. With the changes to breath weapons jumping around flaming people doesn't work anymore. Not that that was ever really an awesome plan anyway. I would go with a Talisman of protection on your general better overall than the CoK, There isn't anything you can do to protect the dragon he is just gonna hafta suck it up. Hellfire sword is too many points for what it does. I would drop it for the Sword of Swift Slaying or something similar |

Lord Enchanted shield MoTz Talisman of preservation Sword of Might Stream of Corruption That build could be entertaining with 3 total breath weapons and 11 str 6 attacks at stupid high initiative and WS. I wouldn't take one in a tournament but I might take one this weekend so I can use my D-lord model (click in my sig to see it). |

I wouldn't take a dragon lord at all if it we hadn't agreed ahead of time to take some soft options. The dragon is still a force to be reckoned with especially the combat lord that rolled up. The thing the dragon lord dies your out a ton of points it's a total points sink. It's not the competitive option in anything less then a 5k game thats my opinion. If you take a Chaos Lord you wont have points for a lvl4. Take the lvl4 and you have a squishy, vulnerable and expensive lord who wont likely earn his points back. I really want to get some use out of the model even if it's a liability I don't play just too win. In fact some of my most memorable games are the ones where I lose or draw. I don't think that a giant is super competitive but I take him anyway. Icehell if you find some spare time throw a few D-Lord builds you like up for me :) Rimmz I agree the Hellfire Sword is spendy I play skaven a lot tho and that thing can decimate a bell/furnace and completely owns a hellpit abom. It's mostly there for those reasons. I love the sword of swift slaying! Hope my buddy doesn't show up this weekend with 3k in Highelves. dragonhardt24: Nice looking army I like the lord standing on the dragon very nice. Let me know how it goes and I'll do the same. |

Well, the point is, I can see the dragon dying, but as long as the lord survives, he isn't taking those points, so basicaly, use the dragon as a very very expension common item choice (that give your lord more wounds, more attacks, flight, 2 breath attacks and thunderstomp). That and his command reach will be 24" while the dragon lives. (if you can, send trolls on the same flank as the dragon lord, adding your high wardsave lord to the trolls when his dragon dies is an excellent way to make them pretty reliable) In the case I'ld ever bring a dragon a to a friendly game (where you haven't really got to loose anything) I think I'ld run with this for now (do let me know it it works out for you, saves me the playtesting: Chaos lord of tzeentch on chaos dragon - Glaive of putrefaction (if they're tough enough to survive a turn of combat, and they were hitting your dragon before... they can forget about it now) I'm guessing that if you play against high elves you could opt for ASF for the same price, but I'm pretty certain there aren't too many high elves that'll survive combat for too long against this build. - Talisman of preservation (because everybody loves 3+ wardsaves) - Spellshield (magic phase? What magic phase >.> 2+ ward vs magic) - Diabolic splendour (they'll be rolling that initial terror test at -1, and if the unit from the glaive was indeed still alive, they might end up completely useless after this turns fear test) - Favour of the gods (if you're not going to kill large targets and challenge heroes/lords with this one... you're doing it wrong, them not using the Ld of the hero/lord is pretty much what you're going for) The objective would ofcourse be to end your first turn behind the trolls who've moved 12" (thus giving you an awesome cannonball shield) and flankcharging on turn 2 (thus ending pretty much everything they could possibly have to counter you). For this guy to get his points back you'll probably need to try to move for the elite troops and the large targets, if you're lucky you'll net another strength, toughness or attack for your lord. Not sure if this'll do great, fine or bad, so it's up to you to find out (I am pretty sure however that the lord will survive =P) |

It was a smaller game but I ran: lord on dragon. diabolic splendor, biting blade, charmed shield. It went well until a particularly viscious giant ate my lord then victoriously belched so loud that my dragon flew away (read: was ran down due to yell and brawl). One other problem I came across is that the Lord would put a couple of wounds on enemy characters/champions, killing them, but denying the dragon a chance to attack for overkill (due to the dragon's lower iniative). It never actually caught me out but it could have done. Be careful of this! With more points available I'd want to add tzeentch and collar of khorne (for protection) and favour of the gods (as I hate rolling 7s for EoTG) |
