I need to blow off some steam.

I bought a Chaos Lord on Daemonic mount to begin my Chaos army. The two halves of the horse do not fit together at all. There's no way I can combine them and have it look good, not without tons of putty and sculpting work (which I can't do, I'm no sculptor). Is this typical? Will I have to put up with this every time I get a Chaos model? This has me irritated enough to not want to play WH at all.

I'm quite vexed.

Just give the sculpting part a shot. Usually it's all about filling the gap and smoothing the excess GS out with a sculpting tool or a toothpick. Dip your tools in water so the GS won't stick to them. I've found that every time I buy a metal model, it will require a fair amount of GS to look good.

I'm avoiding it by keeping as much as possible plastic. Heavily converted Chaos Knight for Lord/Hero on a steed. I'm not a big fan of the Daemonic Steed since it leaves the character quite exposed. My sorcerers are heavily converted warriors. They're wearing chaos armour anyway so I opted for the professional killer style for my army.

On topic though. My three metal models are Hellcannon, Dragon and Juggernaut. All of them had rather lousy fit. The dragon is almost excused since the model is almost 14 years old and from a different era, but the other two are brand new (relatively speaking) and hit the shelves only a few years ago. I'm quite appalled that GW haven't got their act together one bit when it comes to metal models.

I have two metal models and two packs of metals:

Lord on deamonic mount,
Old School sorceror on chaos steed
2 packs of Chosen

all the models have fit well, to the point where i've only needed to do the slightest of gap filling with green stuff (and even then, mostly because i want to learn green stuffing more than because it needed it).

The only thing that didn't quite fit was one chosen's weapon hand pointing slightly outward...but i just bent it back inwards.

If a model doesn't fit well, you can always send it back for a replacement (i read that on a different thread about the hellcannon not fitting). but bear in mind that metal is more susceptible to warmth, expansion etc.

Still, GW has alwauys been good for replacements, just phone them up and tell them of your plight!

Att room temperature, metal isn't anymore liable to expand than plastic. To get metal to expand it has to be a lot warmer. The kind of temperature that burns the skin of your hands. Besides, the alloy used for making metal miniatures melts long before it expands (if at all).

What you say about replacements is indeed correct. GW replaced a faulty Hellcannon kit... and even let me keep the faulty kit so now I have something like 1.75 Hellcannons.

I would just call GW report the problem your having with the model they may just replace it I bought the same model awhile back and it fit together just fine I don,t think models that fit together poorly is common as the only model i ever got that didn't fit well was the mounted Archaon so try not to be too discouraged bye one bad model
