I am currently running/building 2 blocks of Marauders: Khornate GW and Tzeentchian HW+Sh (predictable I know). I have 24-30 models in each, and I am finding that no matter what I do, the units look more regimented than a horde of barbarian invaders of Chaos should be. What do you guys do to try and make the unit look more chaotic? Here's a rundown of what I have tried MODELS: -2/3 are plastic marauders. Legs are positioned differently on each base, with various torso twistings. All weapons held at various angles with minimal repetition. -1/3 are models from other armies given chaos weapons/shields/heads or other distinguishing features indicating mutation. Mostly empire freemen, but a couple of old bretonnian bowmen cut up to look like they are holding Greatswords or hand weapons. Catachan and Cadian models used as well. -mostly marauder/horsemen heads, often using catachan or empire heads as well as the odd WEAPONS: -Some GW mauders are holding empire halberdier halberds behind them as GW for variety -Most GW are flails given axe heads or flails - Some HW+Sh models have shields in right hand instead -Catachan swords as HW UNIT FILLERS: -WIP: One "oddball" filler, cramming 5 tzeentchified models onto a 50mm base. -Proposed: Chaos spawn leashed. -Proposed: Khornate marauders tearing another apart ("Khorne cares not from whence the blood flows...") |

more spikes, more armour, more scavenger/variety (on marauders). ultimatly a chaosy paint scheme will make them scarier! Pilch |

Add mutations by using beastmen parts. Just look at PsychosisPC's army for inspiration. |

You can use some actual Beastmen to represent Marauders. Some parts on your regular guys too. Stuff from the Spawn kit. Tentacles and stuff. Use one of the eyeballs-on-a-tentacle or two as Marauder heads. Stuff like that. Theo |

or you can kitbash the whole unit xD (like I did) I hate the current GW marauders models. They have only 4 options of each thing and look like vedettos, almost naked in the tundra. And not to mention that they carry light armour, that looks like leather clothing! That's why I'm making my own marauders, with loads of conversions, bits from other boxes and I'm planning to follow this concept art picture: Posted Image ...and I'm going to sculpt cloaks for them, and fur for some shoulders (and adding marauders and CSM shoulder pads for some others). Posted Image For these first 18 marauders I've used bits from: - Chaos Marauders - Chaos Warriors - Beast Herd (the old one, with Ungors and Gors bits) - Chaos Marauder Horsemen The legs are the 4 halfs of the torsos from the Chaos warriors, modified, adapted and the mould-casted for this puopose (that's why the white look). The torsos came from the Marauder and Marauder Horsemen sprues; the firsts filled a bit and the horsemen torsos cut from the legs. For the heads I used CW, CM, CMH and converted CW heads. For the arms I used CM, CMH shields, CM, CMH, Ungors and Gors weapons and CMH javelins. The great weapons? They were made using CM and CMH flails, cutting the chains and balls, then adding some CW weapon part (last marauder hammer), parts (8th marauder, with their hammer comming from 2 pieces of the same CW hammer) and the champion's axe from the CMH (5th marauder). The rest of pics, of every individual model can be foun on my blog. Hope it helps. Cheers! |

That's pretty nice, nesbet- one of the best kit bashes I have seen. Although I note that the regimental look is avoided mainly by not giving everyone the same equipment. |

...AND poses. It's escencial the difference from the marauders poses to achieve this goal. As you can see, I used the CW legs, cut, modified and casted, but used in different poses. Look at their heads, almost every |

Exactly as Nesbet has said. If you want a chaos army to really standout its essential to make the models appear to be individuals in my opinion. Posted Image Posted Image I've kit bashed mine and have also used a bunch of OOP models and stuff from other companies to further that along also. |
