I am new to WHFB. I have played 40k for over 20 years, but it wasn't until Dec of last year that I gave WHFB a chance. I now have a decent sized army but with only 2 test games under my belt. I have had a hard time with coming up with a build I am happy with. I have drafted more than 20 army lists but I am not happy with any of them. Welcome to the fun of fantasy :rock: I'll give some pointers on your posted list: 1) Sorcerer lord is a good, solid build, although a lot of people prefer the Charmed shield over the enchanted one as it's cheaper and can save you against that first cannonball etc. 2) BSB's are vital to armies now with the ability to grant re-rolls and as such need to protected. Give him a decent ward save of some kind instead of the magic resistance, or if you want both keep him tzeentch and give him the collar of khorne. In general magic resistance isn't seen as that useful this edition. 3) Whoa on the warrior unit size :o Talk about a LOT of points in one place :o Although this unit will steamroller almost any other unit it touches it has a major issue; it's slow at movement 4 and so can be easily avoided. This means the majority of opponents will ignore it or just feed it chaff units to distract it and kill the rest of your army. It also makes one HUGE target, and with some off the game changing spells in fantasy now, if those spells come off you can kiss this unit bye bye! The other problem is that because it is slow and unwieldy it is susceptible to multiple charges in the front, flanks etc. I just think it's way to many points in one place. Good numbers for warrior units are 18-24 strong. 4) Warhounds are always great for deployment and harrasment duties, keep them! 5) The banner of eternal flame does not work with the standard knights weapons as they count as magical. Check the rules under flaming attacks. If you want to use this combo you'll have to give them lances which normally just isn't worth it. Anyhow, that's a few pointers, I'm sure some others will chime in with advice as well :D |

Thank you for pointing the flaming banner out it was in the wrong group! I got wife agro when I was building this list last night! ;) I know the 50 man block is everything you said, the thing I was thinking with it was and please correct me if I am wrong. With the MoT, The Lodestone, & the Blasted Standard the unit would have the following. 3+ Armour save 3+ Ward save vrs Magic 4+ Ward save vrs Shooting 5+ Ward save in hand to hand ( 6+ if they use the Halberds) I was thinking I would use the Hounds to cover the units flanks. As far as the shield I am on the fence with that one... My SL has a 1+ Armour save with that shield not a huge deal and to save points I might swap it out. Edited by Xelephere, Feb 29 2012, 09:00 PM.

The thing is, if your opponent gets something like Dreaded 13th, which can take out a huge number of them, with no saves of any kind, even that 3++ vs magic, or dwellers, again no wards either. Magic resistance is only good vs direct damage spells. The change in magic should've come with a change in the definition of what Magic Resistance does, but alas, GW has overlooked that :( If that 50 man Warrior unit got into combat though, it would wreck shop! |

Survivability isnt the issue with that block but more the fact that it will never see combat with anything worth fighting. A big issue that WoC has is our opponents have more units then we do so they will throw down chaff until you deploy that big bad block then they will deploy everything worthwhile on the other side of the table and ignore it. Edit: Realized I forgot my suggestion :) break it into two units of 25 and deploy your warhound arround them to act as flank protecters. Edited by Tekik, Mar 1 2012, 12:03 PM.

You seem to have half the Chosenstar correct. If your gunna have tzeench chosen with favor of the gods, you might as well give them the wailing banner too so they have terror and you have an even better chance of getting Divine Greatness. My other suggestion is along the lines with everyone else, the warrior unit is just too large and will probably be ignored by a quicker army. also ive never been a fan of marking warshrines, might as well save the points for something else.
