Yup. Talisman of saphery makes magic items mundane. Forlaths robes makes you immune to mundane attacks. Only way to kill him is:

A: Beat the unit in combat
B: Magical spells

The robes make him unable to attack or use a bow weapon though...which is perfect for a mage!

I have done it many times when The chaos lord of death charges in, has to challange and the mage accepts. Cause you cannot hurt him or him you, you lose combat by 3/4...(thats if alone...but if you have a unit then you better hope he isnt bunkered in the white lions)

I thought the same thing too and asked some others and they stated that the shooting weapon itself must have the AP rule. By giving it to the unit, they only get AP in close combat.

Ok, sounds like that is how it is then.

I mean I could possibly see why he'd think that the razor banner could be used in shooting, but the other stuff like the chariot spinning a 180 and then charging seems a bit ridiculous. That damn bow was really pissing me off as well, especially since he said he could take four shots with it ("well my prince has four attacks").

And to think I was getting so mad to just drop my army.... grrr. Now I want to stomp him with a wicked list.

Where to begin...where to begin....

gift of the gods which do direct damage , use it before you start the challenge and you can win combat resolution thus destroying the unit.
a friend of mine used that once but i charged the unit with 18 chosen filled with 2 juggers ( one being bsb and had always strike first weapon )
he lost the combat resolution ( even thou he locked one jugger in a challenge ) with 14 :P
and he ran i overran his unit and so much for that pesty bugger.

Sadly, the attacks from the Daemonic Gifts are not magical (ie word of pain). How do you deal with this untouchable wizard? Get a BSB to run with your Lord. The defensively built BSB declares his challenge. If someone other then the wizard accepts, the BSB will most likely be able to deck whoever it is or at least survive. Or grab a Sorcerer with the Lore of Fire and cast flaming sword on the unit. Suddenly they all have magical attacks and there's nothing your opponent or his mage can do about it (unless they dispel it...)

I'll be blunt; I'm incredibly surprised that that shooting is killing you so bad. Even the 50 Sea Guard should be hitting on 4's most of your way over, wounding on 5's, so that's 8 wounds before saves on your Warriors, and with Sh and MoT you should be saving 6 of those. His list is pretty soft too, with easy to kill heroes and combat units that rely on getting the charge. I think with time and more experience you'll learn to smash him every time. Just do your best and don't fret on it too much.

It seems you must be pretty new to warhammer, excuse me if I am wrong, BUT, if your opponent starts doing things, and you think they seem a little too good to be true, then you can always politely ask him to show you in the rules/army book, at the relevant page, so you can see/check he is doing it correctly.

By this you get to know the rules better, and the armies you are playing against.

I also notice your list has a serious shortage of unit screeners (AKA dogs). Park a 30 point unit of dogs in front of any one of your units and he either shoots the dogs or he shoots at the valuable stuff behind the dogs at a -2 penalty. I highly encourage all my opponents to shoot my dogs and when they're wiped out I'll happily take my panic check. A very fair trade as far as I'm concerned!

High Elves may have some good units but Marauders with Great Weapons (hey, you're swinging last anyway...) cost half as much as he does and will wreck any of his unit they touch. Khorne Chaos Warriors with hand weapons and shields will also make him cry.

Spawns are a "must be shot down" unit. He'll get no stand and shoot reaction against them and they'll pin his Seaguard in place. Just one of those will irritate him.

Why no Chaos Knights? You want to distract him - 5 plain Tzeentch Chaos Knights will soak up ALL his shooting for at least two turns. Bless them with a Warshrine to make them amazing.

High Elves do NOT like Trolls. They have so many wounds and just get tougher the more you shoot them. Trolls = rockstars vs High Elves.

A lot of it really comes down to just play-testing what works for you and what doesn't. Everyone has their own individual play-style. You sound fairly new so feel free to experiment and see what combinations work for you!

Good luck!!

I beg to differ on this point, but in my experience trolls get owned by HE and any other army that has access to shooting and the banner of eternal flame. HE also have flames of the phoenix that can help take them out.

I regularly play against a HE player. In the beginning i tried running a unit of 6 trolls but he quickly learnt their weakness: flaming attacks. All it takes is one archer unit with the banner of eternal flame to cause one wound on the unit and then they can't regen for the rest of that phase. He then targets the unit with all his other shooting hammering them!

My advice; trolls can be good, but if your opponent knows what he's doing they won't live long! I wouldn't recommend them against HE.

I consider my trolls entirely disposable so I'm fine with my enemies shooting them. I screen them with Dogs though. And if his Seaguard are carrying the Banner of Eternal Flame - great! That means when I hit them with the real damage dealer, they probably won't be able to handle it!
