Question about casters and close combat

Can a wizard/sorcerer cast spells while engaged in close combat, as long as they within range and fulfill whatever other criteria (obviously line of sight is out, but say a direct damage spell, since you just need forward arc, or hexes and augments, since they can be cast into close combat)?

A sorcerer can cast any spell but one listed as a magic missile while in combat.

Thought so. Came up in a game yesterday, and didn't look too hard through the book since we were in the middle of a turn. Thanks for the quick response :D

adding one question regarding casters and magic missiles: can a wizards shoot a missile over a unit if he can draw a line of sight over it to the target(before going to close combat himself)?

If you play with proper TLOS, he can shoot it at whatever he can see, even if it is between the legs/arms of a unit to something behind them. Check page 10 of the BRB. If this is how you play you can try a laser pointer, put it at his head and see if you can get the dot on the model/unit you want to target... (yeah, I don't do this either).

If you don't use TLOS, than usually people will say units block LOS of things behind them if they are all the same size. i.e. infantry sized units can screen another infantry sized unit behind it, but not a large target like a hellcannon.

If you literally mean OVER like the wizard is on a hill/building than yep for sure.

Hope that is clear...
