Chaos Lord build

So I'm looking to make an all out offense Chaos Lord to try out in some of my lists. What builds has anyone had success with? I'm thinking of building him around the Aethersword and Chaos Runeshield and giving him a mount, though I'm not sure which one yet. Leaning towards either Barded Chaos Steed or Daemonic Mount. Any thoughts on what marks would be best and other minor details to work into him and how to run him?

Chaos Lord of Tzeentch on Barded Chaos Steed with shield, Ogre Blade, Helm of Many Eyes, Dawnstone. I put him in a unit of seven or eight Chaos Knights with the Banner of Rage.

or

Chaos Lord of Tzeentch with shield, Ogre Blade, Helm of Many Eyes, Dragon Helm, Dawnstone. This one is in a unit of 19 Chaos Warriors of Tzeentch with halberds and the Banner of Rage.

You have six S7 attacks that re-roll to hit against most opponents, you strike first and your defense is decent enough. I add the Stream of Corruption or the Word of Agony when I have the points left over.

I don't really use Chaos Lords in normal games (either 1500 pts friendly, or 2250 tournament lists, in which case I use a sorcerer lord), but a Chaos Lord which worked very well for me in a big alliance game (3000 pts per army, 6 armies in total) I used the following Chaos Lord:

Mark of Tzeentch, Disc, Crown of Command, Talisman of Preservation, Charmed shield & a halberd.

This guy performed excellent, however it must be said that he was built to hold up units by himself, not to really kill loads of stuff.

Chaos lord+mark of tzeentch+barded horse+shield+ogre blade+talisman of preservation+other tricksters shard+word of agony=????

OR......

Chaos lord+mark of tzeentch+barded horse+shield+axe of khorne+talisman of endurance+helm of many eyes+word of agony=????

(can't remeber the points cost for them:P )

Both are very similar and thier primary purpose is to hunt characters.

Option one gives you strength 7, 1+ armour save, 3+ ward save and forces your opponent to re-roll succesful ward saves. This is really good as strength 7 will cut through most armour and the word ignores armour as well maximising your chances of getting through a ward save.

Option 2 is similar (1+ armour save, 4+ ward save) but tries to use the re-rolls to hit to maximise the chances of killing blow. Personally I prefer option 1, more flexible and fun ^_^

Deploy both in a knight unit with the banner of rage for max effect ^_^

Or for giggles you could do:

Chaos lord+mark of tzeentch+barded horse+shield+daemon sword+collar of khorne :P

He may kill himself but he'll take a LOT of people with him :D

I use this build except I use the Dragon Helm instead of the Charmed Shield (give him a standard shield).

As said, he is for running on his own.

This is the build I'm going to use next:

Chaos Lord - MoT, ogre blade, talisman of preservation, the other trickster's shard, stream of corruption - 350

He sits in a unit with the Banner of Rage. With 6 S7 attacks, forcing ward saves to be re-rolled, he's quite good against characters, monsters and heavy cavalry (I have flaming sword nearby for when monsters are a problem, +1 to wound is nice). When in a challenge with something worrying (a Dark Elf lord or something like that), he throws up on them; 2D6 S3 AP hits with re-rolling ward saves is quite good.

This is almost identical to my build a couple of posts above, except I presume your guy is on foot?

If using the other tricksters shard, don't you think word of agony would be better than stream of corruption? I do ;)

Ok, I might not have read every post in the thread...

I think I'll stick with stream, if I get the chance, he can breathe over an enemy unit too (with +1 to wound from Fiery Sword of Rhuin  I love that spell).

Any gifts you want

6 Str6 Killing blow attacks and 3 Str5 attacks. 1+ AS and 4+ Ward. Immune to psych and MR(1). Pretty cool! ^_^

Are you sure that spells affect breath weapons. Because I am quite sure they don't.

Q: Do Breath Weapons benefit from any other special rules,
equipment or magic items? Or vice versa? (p67)
A: No to both questions.

Those are the only restrictions, spells are fine (although flaming attacks from a spell still wouldn't work).

In my last game I had a lord leading a unit of warriors: Mark of Tzeench, talisman of preservation, chaos runesword, charmed shield, stream of corrution, was pretty fun clearing units in the front lines of the fight
