So, we know that the four greater gods of chaos can be referred as Khorne, Tzeentch, Nurgle and Slaanesh. They are in constant rivalry or even war with eacn other unless some greater purpose is at stake, or so they say... who knows? My question to the COTEC fellowship: In your opinion is their some pairing of chaos brothers that is clearly more hostile than some other pairing? I mean is it justified to say the feud between Khorne and Tzeeentch is the strongest and most active? Or does the lore say that they have equal animosity towards each other? What say you loremasters? |

The (old-ish) official fluff was I believe Khorne and Tzeentch hated each other, and Slaanesh and Nurgle too. :) Theo |

The current rivalries are Tzeentch versus Nurgle and Khorne versus Slaanesh, with a minor one between Khorne and Tzeentch. The least antagonistic relationship among the gods is probably between Nurgle and Slaanesh in the current fluff. |

No, Tome has it correct. The reasons were all explained in the old Realms of Chaos books from the '80s, although I can't really recall them off the top of my head.
One of my friends runs Nurgle/Slaanesh in 40k. I call it the syphilis legion  |

Khorne disdains magic and considers it to be cheating. So he doesn't get on well with Tzeentch. But apart from the Magic/Not-Magic thing, Tzeentch and Khorne don't actually have too much conflict in their portfolios, so this isn't the main conflict for either of them. Tzeentch doesn't have too much against Khorne from his side, it's not like Tzeentch's Champions aren't also close-combat monsters as well as powerful sorcerers. The one Khorne really hates is Slaanesh. Partly because Khorne, among other things, represents Hate and Self-Sacrifice, while Slaanesh represents Love and Self-Indulgence. Also, Slaanesh keeps infringing on Khorne's domains. All that inadvertant pain that Khorne's followers generate fuels Slaanesh after all, and Khorne absolutely hates that. The Tzeentch versus Nurgle conflict is more clear-cut. Tzeentch is Hope and Change, Nurgle is Despair and Stasis. Pretty much the only part of their respective portfolios where they don't oppose each other are their Magic/Disease aspects. So yeah, the main conflicts go Hate Vs. Love and Hope Vs. Despair. |

I know there used to be more animosity b/w Khorne and Tzeentch in the fluff from Realms of Chaos box set like theorox said, though, I don't remember any b/w Nurgle and Slaanesh. I think there may even have been a good amount of distain b/w Khorne and Tzeentch in Hordes of Chaos (not 100% sure) which was reflected in the abilities granted in the marks: for every MoK you were granted +1 DD and for every MoT you were granted +1 PD. Boy do I miss the days of my Khornite list w/ 10+DD ^_^ |

Khorne Vs Slaanesh Nurgle Vs Tzeentch Has been this way since the very introduction of the 4 Chaos Gods & the Liber Chaotica released just a few years ago backs this up. Many Believe Khorne hates Tzeentch because of the magic thingy, but truth to be told, he really despises Slaanesh more, I quote from the very first Realm of Chaos book released in 1988; "The two powers personify entirely opposing concepts of the nature of Chaos" |

From 'Slaves to Darkness' ... , Page 16 , Slaanesh - Friends and Enemies : "Slaanesh has a neutral attitude to many of the gods of Chaos , and is generally too caught up in his own pleasures to be interested in alliances and co-operation. Particular enemies are the followers of Khorne, whose belief in pain and death is completely opposed to Slaanesh's principle's of a life of unrestricted pleasure. Followers of Nurgle and Tzeentch , the other two Powers of Chaos , are subject to Slaanesh's usual neutral attitude." Page 17 , Khorne - Friends and Enemies : " Followers of Khorne have no friends and few long-term acquaintances - all are soon-to-be sacrifices to Khorne." .. "The followers of Khorne treat Slaanesh worshipers as particular enemies. The two powers personify entirely opposing concepts of the nature of Chaos. " From - 'The Lost and the Damned' , Page 12 , Nurgle : "Nurgle is the eternal enmy of the Chaos power Tzeentch, the Lord of Change. Nurgle and Tzeentch draw their power from opposing beliefs. While the energy of Tzeentch comes from hope and changing fortune , that of Nurgle comes from defiance born of despair and hopelessness. The two great Powers never lose an opportunity to pit their forces against each other, from mighty battles on the Chaos Waste , to complex political intrigues among mortal men." It was originally set up as Slaanesh despising Khorne , Tzeentch and Nurgle despising each other, and Khorne intent on destroying all. Since Khorne praises only Death , anyone is a potential victim/enemy. Since Tzeentch praises change and Nurgle seeks to thwarts or deny change these two powers are at opposition in most every way. On the subject of Khorne relation to Tzeentch , Slaanesh , Nurgle and Magic. From what I have read the reason that Khorne abhors magic is because magic is to much of a destraction away from what is important to Khorne , the Blood god, the god of Death. Magic requires to much time devoted to studying and practicing spells, time in Khornes eyes that would be better spent murdering someone with a sword or at least training to murder someone with a sword , preferably on the job training on a battle field killing and maiming Khornes enemies with a sword. Khorne armies have warriors that were once sorcerers and wizards , they just dont use spells anymore because they have forgottten their spells since they have spent all their time training to kill their enemies with a sword. Also Khorne is the Chaos god of blood , and Khorne is pleased by his followers physically destoying those that oppose him , the bloodier the death the better. On the relationship between Khorne and Tzeentch, Khorne would consider Tzeentch and his followers as someone who waste their time with magic. Tzeentch and his followers are not hated or despised by Khorne and his followers any more than anyone else that opposes Khorne but the reason for that hatred is clear. Tzeentch and his followers consider the devotion to death by Khorne and his followers as an interruption to change. Although war does bring change , the devotion to death brings finality. Khornes relaionship with Slaanesh is clear - Slaanesh and his followers are devoted to pleasure not to killing and death , and Slaanesh and his followers despise Khorne and his followers for their devotion to anguish and death. Khornes relationship with Nurgle has more in common when compared to the other Chaos Powers , that being death. Eventhough they are not followers of Khorne but followers of Nurgle they do relish in those things that lead to death. Khorne and his followers are devotes of Death and those things associated with death , pain and anguish , and therfore are the most dedicated praticioners of the martial way of life , dedicated to War and the weapons of War. Khorne is known as the War god , the Blood god , the god of Death sitting on a giant Throne of Skulls. For these reasons Khorne has very few or no allies among the other three Chaos Powers, but many enemies , which pleases Khorne since his enemies are all soon to be sacrifices to the Blood god , additions to the Throne of Skulls of the god of Death and Destruction. |

I remember reading that while Khorne does not care for magic cast as spells and the impersonal way that a spell caster slays his foes, he is very interested and supportive of magic weaponry (better to kill with) and armor (keeps his warriors killing longer.) |

Alric pretty much gave us the details of the original fluff. So I gonna fill out a few interesting details about Khorne and magic that's rarelly mentioned anymore. Like many said, Khorne doesn't hate magic. He use magic in form of weapons. The reason is explained in Slaves to darkness where they explain how Khorne is a very practical god. And since magic is a work of the mind and thinking, it simply doesn't suit him. The second interesting information was that people like wizards or those who knows magic are actually the only ones who are not slain by Khornse worshippers. instead they're taken into the real of chaos, where they are forced to make the magic weapons for his armies till he thinks it's time to get rid of them (which fate is worse? Well that's for you to decide ;) ) |
