Im not sure if this would go here or not, but here goes. Ive been trying to decide between High Elves or Warriors of Chaos for sometime now, currently I play Dark Elves and im looking for something new. I liked the looks of both WoC and HE models which is a big part, figure if im gunna play I may as well like the models I have to paint etc. Then on the other hand I play Dark Elves and even though HE's are different there are some similairities. So Looking for some input as which I should choose and what reasons for choosing said army. Also $$ is not a problem as I have $700 in credit at my local gaming store. So I can get pretty much anything I'd like. |

Both WoC & HE are competetive armies, but as you said yourself, DE & HE are pretty similar armies in many ways, therefore I suggest WoC, since the army plays a lot differently, which imo should give you more pleasure in the end. |

Agreed, the more variation the more fun. Atleast I too find it to be so! |

One of the main advantages of a WoC army is variety, so if you get bored with one miniature type, you can do something completely different. Then there's the conversion aspect- I've managed to keep my love of marauders mostly from kit-bashing (well, mostly kit-slashing). |

I was a he player and have won numerous tournaments with them. Sadly in 8th unless you go book of hoeth they just do not do well. Mid tables at best The last 4 tournaments I have seen best he has been 22 out of 80. Sadly a lot of he stuff should be core or better. I changed to woc and am really enjoying it as you do have a lot more good choices and are built to take a beating with good damage output |

I could probly find this elsewhere but WoC isnt due for an update anytime soon I imagine maybe they are the better choice, although I cant seem to find any good galleries that give me ideas for WoC whereas High Elves ive found lots of great galleries that inspired me. My Dark Elves were fun to paint however another "dark" army to paint im unsure of was thinking HE's for the colors and such. my DE are all dark hued blues and greys. |

A WoC army can be painted pretty much however you want. You can even have drastically different paint schemes for each unit. Hell, my army is done entirely in nice bright colours - mostly white with some gold and blue mixed in. Tzeentch gives a lot of nice options like that. |

The great thing about a Chaos Army, is that almost every single one looks different and you do have a lot of options in terms of theme, color scheme, etc. Now a lot of people on multiple forums would have you believe that the only way to play is Tzeentch Sorcerer, Hellcannon/2nd Hellcannon, 50 Khorne Marauders, etc. The reality though is that most of the things in the Chaos book are fairly good, just that they aren't as super amazing as other things. But when people say that somethings are subpar, that's because you're comparing those to some of the best units in the entire game at what they do. Obviously, these people do have a point as those things are very competetive and they aren't wrong in saying that winning with those is the best bet, but most of the things in the book can be made competetive against certain opponenets or if you build your army around them So I would say pick a Chaos theme and go for it because there is a lot of imagination that can go towards a Chaos Army. My suggestion is search coolminiornot.com or warseer's projects because there're some great Chaos things on those websites to draw inspiration from as well as this site. You can have a single God themed army, and even then have it themed off of one particular aspect of that god, or a band of multiple types of gods, or undivided that is themed off the Northmen aspect of Chaos with metalic colors, blacks, silvers, golds, etc. You can even base if around the worship of Malal, or a Daemon Prince, or a Cultist group, have them be Beastmen/Mutants, or even theme your army around where they are. They could be from the Chaos Wastes, from the forests of the Old World, from the Southern Wastes. That's the great thing about Chaos, it's really just based off your imagination when a lot of the other armies are more defined in terms of what a "normal" army is for that race. Chaos doesn't have very many limitations in terms of appearance. |

I would suggest warriors of chaos because of the eye of the gods table and the ward saves  |

Warriors will give you a much different experience than High Elves, and you'll also experience the joy of not having to rely on squishy Elves. :P |
