Rumours of WoC update in White Dwarf

I doubt that GW would "fix" anything w/ the shaggoth. Seeing as the Beastmen have overly expensive (points wise) monsters that under perform for their cost ...

And adding a manticore as a rare option (I'm assuming at the same points cost as the mount) would just be ridiculous. Next to no one uses a giant or shaggoth now. Good thinking GW, add another monster rare choice that no one will use. <_<

It's pretty well-established that the Hydra is underpriced, especially with the Beastmasters riding shotgun. And the Manticor does have the advantage of providing something that is rare in our list, and that is a high degree of mobility. Sometimes it doesn't have to be the best, only good enough to get the job done. 180 might still be a bit high, but (barring that they provide it with a battery of upgrades to make it survivable enough to stick around) it's about as low as it's going to go...

Rothgar13, it wouldn't surprise me if GW did allow us to take a Manticore as a rare choice. It would just be a really, really bad rare choice (for the reasons I've already stated). Which is why *sigh* it'll probably happen. I do think it's fair to argue that it doesn't add all that much. Our foot troops are average speed or faster, we have Dragons and Tzeentchy disk-riders for characters, and plenty of monsters that can dash across the field just fine.

I'm not asking for a War Hydra. But is it too much to ask for something even a tiny bit close to being worth the points?

At 110 points I *might* consider it *if* I already had a model.

110pts buys you an Exalted hero with a hand weapon. Try to be at least a little more realistic in future, and don't compare *anything* to the dark elf army book- dark elves are considered to be broken.

The manticore in Storm of Magic is 150 pts, and the only difference is that the SoM version doesn't get frenzy (but can purchase Frenzy and Hatred for 30pts) and cannot be ridden. This means that a manticore in a new WoC book will be a minimum of 180pts, and given how much damage a chaos character can do with a 20" move I suspect that it won't be dropping too far south of the current 200pt cost in the next WoC book.

I know that Forgeworld would love have Chaos Dwarfs become official in a Chaos Warrior army. But I doubt that would ever happen, be cool if it ever did though.

GW announces Forgeworld's Tamurkhan: Throne of Chaos

Cover for Tamurkhan: Throne of Chaos

Unfortunately not a truly official release, but given that Storm of Magic has rules for a few Forgeworld (well, Warhammer Forge) exclusive models (Giant Spined Chaos Beast, Plague Toads, Chaos War Mammoth) many rules will probably be adopted into official canon.

I think this rumor is ridiculous, and I would be shocked if GW just started giving out new rules to every army to include more monsters. The fact is they were creating the zombie dragon plastics and saw the opportunity to include multiple designs, and hence came up with new rules for a new vampire creature (one that most ppl wont use mind you).

If anything like this happens for WoC, I would wager its a new plastic kit for one of our existing units, and potentially a new unit that can be made from that kit- like chaos ogres that can be made into dragon ogres, or a chaos dragon, or plastic chariots/warshrines. Again, these would be something I wouldnt be surprised to see, but arent necessarily rumors.

The point is I feel this rumor is baseless, and I would be shocked if they made manticores a rare choice for us. Since theyre in official print, cant we take them as allies anyway under the new 8th rules?

Cheers,
Nick

Agreed. Of all the books available, WoC is one of the last needing revision.

I wouldn't pass this off as false yet. Did you look at the lastest GW site page?

GW actually managed to sneak something and have released some Daemons stuff. Though at the minute it is a company box & character, doesn't say they wont get anything in the next white dwarf also

Yeah, I wouldn't dismiss this out of hand - they seem to be big on releasing rules through White Dwarf in addition to the normal product schedule (which is going mighty fast this year), so all bets are off.

I don't know about you, but that was one of the big draws for me - I like me some gaudy stats. :)

Warriors of Chaos ARE stats over rules. I have two editions of Warhammer Armies: Chaos from 4th AND 5th edition and it is exactly the same- strongest base statlines in the Warhammer world, superior (at least to most) arms & armour, limited use of complex special rules.

yeah, but we still have about 7 choices in our book that are pretty useless: DP, forsakens, ogres, D.ogres, shaggot, giant, spawn.
That would be nice to fix

I think the Ogres, Giant, Spawn, and the Forsaken are the genuinely bad units in the book. A Shaggoth is overpriced but not terrible, the Dragon Ogres don't look all that bad, and I'm actually rather fond of the Daemon Prince caster.

I don't think a manticore will become a rare choice. More likely the rules and/or points of the manticore for both DE and WOC will change with the points value be under 150 points and scaily skin and/or they will add a new beastie to warriors of chaos like vampire counts in their second wave.
