After building many lists and reading extensively through this forum, I have come up with the following list for a friendly tournament which will see HE, DE, DW, TK.

Please feel free to comment :)

CORE:

18 Warriors: MoK – sb, mus – shields & halberds – Banner of Eternal Flame
40 Marauders: MoK – mus – GW
2 x 5 hounds

SPECIAL:

5 Knights: MoT – sb, mus – Banner of Rage
14 Chosen: MoT – FC – shields – Wailing Banner – FotG

RARE:

Hellcannon
Shrine

CHARS:

BSB: MoT – Disc – shield – Armour of Destiny – Halberd – Stream of Corruption
Hero: MoT – steed – shield – Sword of Swift Slaying – Obsidian Trinket – Ironcurse Icon

Sorc Lord: lvl 4 (Shadow or Death)– Biting Blade – Enchanted Shield – Infernal Puppet – Talisman of Preservation – 3rd Eye of Tzeentch

Comments:

The Sorc Lord will go into the Chosen. Although the goal is to get #12 ont the roll for the EotG, I have equipped him with the Talisman just to be sure.

The BSB is a machine / small unit hunter (hence stream of corruption) and can provide his re-rolls where and when needed swiftly. He has a 3+/++ save.

The other hero provides a nice 5+ MR and WaS vs warmachine shooting.

Looks good. You've got flexibility in movement, a couple of redirectors and some nasty hammers. Like the different char. builds, let us know how well they worked. The BSB on a disk is a nice touch. Would that up the bubble to 18 inches?

Very solid all-round list. The only points I would make are:
Its obvious you fear warmachines firing at your Knights, but I really don't see why. With their manoeuvrability your Knights should be able to make good use of terrain to protect them from Bolt Throwers, and the TK are unlikely to be firing their catapults at Knights (and unless I am missing something specific to TK SSCatapults, hooray for you if they decide to). At which point I don’t understand why you are taking the hero in that unit. For 140ish points (compared with an additional knight upgraded to a Champion) you are getting +1 ward against Warmachines, ASF and 1 additional attack. If you want a combat hero, put him on the Disc and then put your BSB with the Chosen or another combat block that you think will need the reroll (but is unlikely to actually break).
You could probably also drop a model or two from the Warrior unit, IMHO.

Only mounts with the Large Target rule increase the bubble.

On my point above about the combat hero, a cheaper way of getting a similar number of attacks is actually to take a unit of Marauder Horse. Sure they can't fly, but they have more wounds and a Vanguard move and are half the price.

@ CyderPirate: thanks for your comments. I'll post bat reps of the tournament ;)

@ Conjoy: thanks for your comments. The reason I want some extra protection for my knights is because terrain is set up by the players themselves. So I should be able to put some cover on the table but my opponent will probably try to have as clear a shooting field as possible.

The hero gives the unit a 5++ against war machine shooting and a 5++ against magic. That counts for sth. The ASF has never let me down in the past. He hits on 3's, gets re-roll and mostly wounds 3's or even 2's.

I could make him horseless, turn him into a BSB and put him into the Chosen. I'd drop the MoT on the Knights. That frees up enough points to:

- boost the chosen to 16.
- BSB = MoT, biting blade, dragonhelm, tal. of endurance
- the hero on disc would remain the same
- get a marauder sb

Does that sound any better?

Cheers!

That is the kind of change I would be looking at. Terrain rules in 8th are D6+4, so between 5 and 10 pieces. And almost anything will add some kind of cover from shooting. Even without, 6 BT shots hitting on 3s, wounding on 4s and you have a 3+ save. On average he kills two every three turns and thats at short range.

I am always nervous about the bsb on a disc. BSBs are critical, especially with a LD 8 army. He is a tough cookie but he can be singeled out and one bad ward save can do him in.

Also, when he breaks from combat he dies. being by himself, he may get into a combat where a whiff and bad break test does him in. In a bad ass unit, he is more likely to win combat.

@ Conjoy & Hinge: I have updated the list, based on your comments which were all correct. The new list is:

CORE:

18 Warriors: MoK – sb, mus – shields & halberds – Banner of Eternal Flame
40 Marauders: MoK – sb, mus – GW
2 x 5 hounds

SPECIAL:

5 Knights: sb, mus – Banner of Rage
16 Chosen: MoT – FC – shields – Wailing Banner – FotG

RARE:

Hellcannon
Shrine

CHARS:

Hero: MoT – Disc – shield – Armour of Destiny – Halberd – Stream of Corruption
BSB: MoT – shield – Biting Blade – dragonhelm – talisman of endurance

Sorc Lord: lvl 4 (Shadow or Death)– Enchanted Shield – Infernal Puppet – Talisman of Preservation – 3rd Eye of Tzeentch

I think it is a solid list.

Here are the changes i would make

24 Warriors: MoN – sb, mus – shields & halberds – Banner of Rage
40 Marauders: MoK – sb, mus – GW
2 x 5 hounds

SPECIAL:

7 Knights:sb, mus – Banner of Eternal flame

RARE:

Hellcannon
War shrine

CHARS:

Hero: MoT – Disc – shield – Armour of Destiny – Halberd – Stream of Corruption
BSB: MoT – shield – Biting Blade – dragonhelm – talisman of endurance
Festus

Sorc Lord: lvl 4 (Shadow or Death)– Enchanted Shield – Infernal Puppet – Talisman of Preservation – 3rd Eye of Tzeentch

This still leaves about 50 points to play around with if you wanted to add or change anything around. You could even drop the shrine to bump the knights up to 10 or increase the marauders to a full 50 if you have the models. Bloodcurdling roar is good for the BSB too if you go with shadow magic and deduce the enemy to a really low toughness. although that is the lore i would go with. Death just doesn't have enough versitility for me. Shadow can de-buff your opponent to the point that elite units are having a hard time even killing your marauders. plus it has a few nasty suprises coupled with festus. I might even advise dropping the disk hero for a level one sorcerer with the book of secrets and a power familiar. Its hard to scuff at 2 extra power dice a turn for magic.

The point for festus and the mark of nurgle on the warriors is if your playing in a tournement that has HE,DE,and TK, they will be shot at alot. Same thing for your knights if you wanted to put the MoN on them. A -1 to hit might not seem like alot, but in can be crucial right before a big turn in minimizing your casualties. Plus the -1WS is huge against armies that have alot of units that have a good WS. Combined with Miasma from your Lv4, you could make other elite units hit your warriors on 5's. And the hat trick, with all those T3 enemies on the table, its easy for your Lv4 and festus to tag team and wipe whole units off the table with either Enfeebling,Withering/Curse of Lepers combo.

This list is pretty good. The only thing I might tweak is dropping knights and bumping up marauders to 50, and chosen if there are enough points, which could be good horde wise. Good luck and lets see batreps.

Nice work on your list, Darth, but my opinion is you should drop the knights. That's the question: are you willing to spend 265 points for only 5 wounds? A couple of bad roll for armour and you've just wasted your points. A couple of chariots would be a lot more effective: they can provide support to your blocks, cover a flank, clean up chaffs etc.
