Due to my inate hatred of metal models, and my love of conversion, Ive decided to take a box of warriors I had in my closet and show my progress as I convert them using bitz from all the kits most of us have anyways, and some minor green stuff work. My hope is to give people a pretty good guideline/tutorial for making some very easy and impressive looking chosen that are clearly distinct from the warriors but still visually similar. I began work on the command group first, using the musician horn, champion sword, some left over shields and heads from the knight kit, with the banner from the marauder horsemen kit. Very simple to convert these, but very impressive none the less. Pics to come soon- stay tuned! Also its important to note that Im going sword and board on theae guys, but Im also going to do a halberd and a great weapon conversion for those of you interestes in those options. Cheers, Nick |

Sorry for the wait on pictures everyone! The unit is now finished, and I have to say I think they look great- head and weapon conversions being the main difference between this unit and normal warriors, Ill be taking pictures of each individual model to showcase how each was made. Now, I did do some halberd conversions as well, though Im using the halberders as normal warriors so apart from the weapon, they're straight from the box. I also attempted to make some great weapon armed warriors/chosen, but the look and feel was too...static. Holding a great weapon sideways in both hands is about the only way they work anatomically, but thats fars less impressive than holding it up ready to strike! Ill try to mock up one or two again just for the sake of taking pictures, but I forewent gluing anything in place permanently. The camera has been on the fritz, but Im hoping some new batteries this morning will make the difference. Thanks all for your patience! Cheers, Nick |

Finally got some pictures! Enjoy, let me know if anyone has any questions about how anything was done, etc. First, the unit of 12 chosen: Posted Image And each individual model; for the most part, a simple weapon swap and some converted helmets from both the knight sprue and the warrior sprue: Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image |

Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image And here are the halberds that I converted as well, as seen on my painted Nurgle warriors. There are two basic styles, one of which is simply made from the banner pole arm on the sprue, cut short, and with an axe head on top, as seen on the left hand side of the images. The other involves taking the axe hands as they are, and adding longer pole arms to the bottom of the fist, as seen on the right hand side of the images. Posted Image Posted Image Hope you all enjoy, I'll keep posting once they're painted as well. Cheers, Nick |

Those chosen looks great, simple and very effective! I'll have to steal...well, all of those ideas. Those helm conversions are beautiful, every one. All the single model pictures don't seem to work though. :/ Theo |

Impressed with how they came out; not only because of their look but because of the relative ease and cost in comparision to other methods! I've been sadly avoiding Chosen because they cost so damn much or else seem to require full out knight and warrior body swaps. These look great and don't seem to have completely ruined a three or four knight kits to do it. By the gods though, how did you get that shield colour! People always have these fancy shields and I can never come up with anything nearly as coo'. *weep* Good job! |

Some neat conversions there, I like the modded helmets. You might want to check your picture tags though. |

I checked and double checked my picture tags, I've been having this issue in my army diary on the site as well for some reason. When I click "preview post", all the images show up loud and clear- however, upon submitting the post, there's always a few that don't quite show up, and I'm not entirely sure why. As far as the shields on the nurgle warriors, its rather simple (and goes for the rest of the armor as well): spray chaos black, base coat catachan green, feather on camo green in streaks, and final highlight with rotting flesh in smaller streaks. wash with thraka green to tie it together, and splash with gryphone sepia and devlan mud to make it extra nurgly. Voila! In all these conversions took me about 3 hours total, from box opening to helmet repositioning to weapon altering. The most time consuming part was coming up with the ideas for different helmets and weapons, as I wanted them to be all individual and unique, as I imagine Chosen each supply their own war gear and are on the fast track to exalted status, each with their own individual story and battle history across the northern wastes. Cheers, Nick |
