Going to play a battle sometime this week. Going to play with a 500pt monster selection option from the Storms of Magic book. I tend to play against players who love ranged attacks and war mechines (Dwarfs, Empire, Skaven, Dark Elves, Wood Elves) and am suspecting i will be going up against a Dwarf or Skaven army. Any way here goes my list as is. Clan Dragon Torc: (Tzeentch Themed) Lords: Sorcerer Lord -level 3: Degava Zoraster, The Prime Observer -mark of tzeentch, talisman of endurance, disc of tzeentch Heroes: Exalted Hero -battle standard bearer: Locutus Noien, The Black Hawk -mark of tzeentch, collar of khorne, disc of tzeentch, flail Exalted Hero -level 1: Eneru Kingslayer, Bane of Creation -mark of tzeentch, helm of many eyes, book of secrets, great weapon, disc of tzeentch Core: 2x35 chaos marauders mark of tzeentch, full command, great weapons, light armour Special: 3x Chaos Chariots Rare: 2x Chaos Hellcannons Monster: 2x Dragon Ogre Shaggoth -extra hand weapon Non-Min: 4x5 Chaos Warhounds Clocks in at 2500 even. Essentially i will run the characters as a single flying, skirmishing unit that can provide support or hunt down war machines. They will have magic resistance (2), -1 to hit with missile fire, all have a ward save, and pack enough punch to effectively eliminate any war machine or gun line they charge. If my opponent plays skaven i may swap out the helm of many eyes for a dispell scroll. I will run at least two of the chariots in tandem , possibly all three or set up a shaggoth/chariot tandem and leave the extra chariot as infantry support. The warhounds will of course get blown to ashes to allow my army to move up. I decided on tzeentch instead of khorne for the marauders as i personally like having a ward save to better the chances of a significant number of them making it into combat but also making it through it. The hellcannons have always paid off for me as i tend to get at 1 direct hit per shooting phase. My strategy is to move my army up behind the cover of warhounds, set my chariots and flying unit to hunt down warmachines. Have my hellcannons provide support fire and hopefully make some of my opponents shooting units panic. All the while moving my units of marauders up the middle of the board with my shaggoths ready to flank either as a counter or support charge. I am thinking of dropping one of the exalted heroes for either Festus or Wulfwrik and dropping the shaggoths and some warhounds for 3 manticores (would utilize them solely as warmachine hunters). Would appreciate any feedback and thanks for your time and efforts. (When faced with an evil you cannot defeat by just means what do you do? Commit evil to oppose evil, or remain steadfast and righteous even if it means surrendering to evil?) |

From what I understood you´re going to try to use the carracters in a unit? If by that you mean using them for the same purpose great, because I doubt that you think that characters can be a unit by puting some together |

I may have understood the rules incorrectly, but from what i understand a unit is defined as a grouping of 2 or more units (See Forming Units in basic rule section). Likewise, if a unit consists of more than one flyer it behaves as skirmishers (See Fly special rule section). Based on those two rules i figured i could give all my characters Discs of Tzeentch and throwing them together in a unit. That way i would have a flying, skirmishing unit made up of characters. Thus, a -1 to hit with missile fire as well as well as randomization of missile attacks as the unit will comprise of only characters. But again i may have misinterpreted the rules and will thoroughly check to make sure the above makeup is within the rules. On another note i played this list today and it played out like a charm. My opponent played Skaven and ended up surrendering in the middle of turn 3. The only changes i made where as follows: Lord: Chaos Sorcerer Mark of Tzeentch, level 3 wizard, tailismen of endurance, dragon bane gem, disc of tzeentch Heroes: Exalted Hero Mark of Tzeentch, dragon helm, tailismen of protection, battle standard, disc of tzeentch Exalted Hero Mark of Tzeentch, book of secrets, dispell scroll, disc of tzeentch The rest of the list remained unchanged. MVP's where the two hellcannons and the two Shaggoths. By the end of turn two they had accounted for over 600vps between the four of them. My Hellcannons alone took out 29 models and a warplightning cannon, The Shaggoths took out a Doom Wheel and team of Warplock Jazzels, and a marauder unit took ot a Hellpit Abomination (he rolled for the 3D6 S6 attacks got 12 hits and i only took two wonds, go Mark of Tzeentch  ) Long story short i ran my characters in a flying skirmishing unit, the got grounded for a turn due to one of his banners, the only hangup i had in the game. However, in the end it was Chaos 600+vps to Skaven 180vps as he destroyed two warhound units and a single chariot. Definitely like the double hellcannon set up and the Tzeentch themed army. Going to play a 3500pt battle on Fridary or Saturday vs Brettonia and will attempt to put my list up for feedback. |

Hello, I've been cruising the forum, but this is my first written appearance. Proper, I believe your interpretation is correct. It does state that characters can form units of their own. Individually, a character follows the skirmisher rules; however, they will use the rules governing units once one or more character joins them. In the case of flyers as a unit, I'd have to trust your understanding since I don't have my book on me. Good luck! |

That would definately be an awesome setup if it does work that way. From you interpretation, it does sound like they would indeed form a flying unit with all the benefits. That makes the flying circus even more dangerous. |
