hi all,
wondering if you can help...... i decided to open my HUUUGE mouth and challenge a GW staff member who is a veteran in playing beastmens, now he is happy to play 2k, buuut i havnt even looked at building an army let alone a competitive one,

so my question is can you help me to build a list that will hold up against him?
i don't expect to win as this is my 1st game but would like to give him a run for his money......

thanks

Hi! I don't know stuff you own but here's a fair list:

Chaos Sorcerer Lord Lvl 4 w Mark of Tzeentch, talisman of preservation, Infernal Puppet, Stream of Corruption, third eye, Disc of Tzeentch, charmed shield

Exalted BSB w talisman of endurance, shield, mark of tzeentch, Dragonhelm

18 Chaos Warriors w mark of nurgle, FC, Halberds, Shields banner of rage

18 Chaos Warriors w mark of khorne, FC, Halberds, banner of swiftness

17 Chosen w Mark of tzeetch, FC, Halberds, shields, wailing banner, favour of the gods

Warshrine

The tzeentch and nurgle warriors are fair anvils but also pretty good hammers. Of course the Khornies are awesome hammers. For variety you could drop one of the warrior units for some khorne marauders with flail and a 1-2 units of dogs as diverters. Good luck with it and how about a batrep?

Go with two hellcannons, trust me no matter his experience level it will rattle him a bit. Not to mention it will give you two monsters to hold up your rear vs. the beastmen ambush.

Maybe even go with an all marauder core selection as you can easily put in two units of 36 with great weapons, light armour, and mark of tzenncth for 500pts. and considering most beastmen are lightly armoured if at all they should hold up for a few turns of combat so your hard hitters can flank.

For special i would go with chariots, i tend to run three and have never regretted it as they rock

Definitely put in some warhounds and prepare yourself mentally to utilize them solely as mobile screens that will get shot to smithereens or redirect chargers via fleeing or getting overrun as they get mauled in close combat. But it is fine that is their purpose.

In my last three games i ran two Hellcannons and they played out as follows:
Chaos vs Empire 3000pts (victory for chaos by 600+vps)
Got half of my opponents army to panic off the board in the first turn.

Chaos vs Skaven 2500pt
My hellcannons had killed 30 models and a warplightning cannon by the end of turn 3 and my opponent surrendered.

Chaos vs Dwarfs 3500pt (Storms of Magic Battle)
Outdid the dwarfs in missile fire my opponent called the game by the end of turn 2 my hellcannons had attributed a death toll of 28+ models by that time.

I am not sure if the person you are playing is the type of player who requires everything look proper with the correct models or not, but here is my standard 2000pt list i use against all takers:

Characters: Deck them out as you see fit
1 Sorcerer Lord (General)
1 Exalted Hero (BSB)

Core: 500pts + 120pts in non-min
2 x Chaos Marauders (35 strong)
Great Weapons, Mark of Tzeentch, Light Armour, Full Command

4 x Chaos Warhounds (5 strong)
Naked

Special: 360pts
3 x Chaos Chariots
Naked

Rare: 410pts
2 x Chaos Hellcannon

I tend to run my characters on discs to get them where they either need to be or where i want them too. I also run them as their own unit but am still unsure if this is allowable via the rules.

I use the warhounds as mobile hard cover and screens. Be ready to see them get obliterated. However, they are awesome re-directors. I also deploy all of my warhounds first, most times you will be able to see a good amount of your opponents army this way.

I use two of the chariots in tandem and one sort of like a detachment to one of my infantry blocks.

The Hellcannons are the best artillery pieces/Monsters in the game as far as i am concerned. Especially, with the 8th editions emphasis on massive infantry units (makes scattering much more forgiving). S5(10) is awesome and the -1 to panic tests in tandem with a successful casting of Pandemonium can have devastating effects.
They provide the perfect anchor for your army even with Beastmen Ambush rules, i have yet to meet a player who wants to have any part of combat with the Hellcannons.

Hope this was of some help and Good luck in your battle.
