This is a pretty straight forward topic, just wanted to see what everyone's opinion and experience is in relation to Finecast. I know some people swear by it, while others absolutely despise it. I was curious as to what the general consensus is amongst the Cotec community.

What is your experience with it? What have you found to be its pros and cons?

I PUT OK FOR IT AS I HAVE 6 FINCAST MODELS, AND ONLY 2 HAVE BEEN DODGY, BUT BY THAT GW STAFFERS HAVE SORTED IT QUICKLY FOR ME.
AND ONLY 1 HAD TO BE RETURNED AND REPLACED.
SO OVERALL NOT TOO BAD.

Yeah, OK here too...
I like that it's light and easy to cut to modify...
I hate that it's hard to shape or bend.. and mostly I hate the price increase that was attached to this

I've put okay as I like it and all it's benefits, however, it has quite a few drawbacks, which you would be better going to Whingeseer to hear about.

However, the models do look nice and crispy though :D

I've seen too many negative reactions to it to even try, so when it comes to me it's a complete failure on GW's part. :)

I'm in the exact same boat. That's why I'm so curious to see what the rest of cotec has to say.

I find that I prefer it to all of the metal models that I have. It's lighter and more durable, and I find it much easier to work with. The price increase is not the fault of Finecast, but the company, so I don't think that should be viewed as a corollary. I prefer plastic for rank and file models, but the resin has more potential for characters and heroes.

Rated pretty bad.

I've probably had limited experience really though, 2 models bought from GW and 2 from ebay. The GW ones have been poor by the standards I used to expect from them, as they had bubbles in detail and were mishaped.

However one huge downfall I've found is that I now cannot trust buying any finecast 'new' from ebay. Ones I have bought have obviously been seconds and were in such bad condition I had to return one, whilst the Shaggoth (whose faultline made it look like a 'ringer') remains on my desk as a constant reminder of the betrayal! Well not really betrayal :P

Not to derail the thread too, but I've seen a trend of metal models becoming more expensive once the finecast has been released, sometimes double the price than weeks before. Make your own judgements about that.

I think it's pretty good. I dislike metal, so anything that replaces it is better in my opinion. It's a bit too soft and rubbery for my taste, but it's fine. If there are any major miscasts (the type you can't fix with hardly any work required) GW apparently sends you a new model or (I've heard from somewhere) free greenstuff to fix it, if needed. Anyway, it's just a kind of transition material. Most, if not all, models will probably be made in plastic eventually. :)

But I can understand people preferring metal, I guess. To me it seems so clunky and fragile and impractical, but if you prefer it I don't care what you like as long as you're civil about it. Like with all things, having an opinion is good but mindlessly hating things that aren't important enough to hate is just dumb.

I keep hearing negativity but from my own personal experience I've only got a single finecast figure and there was nothing wrong with it except a missing piece, which is the fault of the packers, not the medium.

However, it did snap when I dropped it (onto soft carpet, no less). The break was clean and easy enough to glue back together, but this wouldn't have happened with either metal or plastic.

I've had some good and some really bad, honestly I think the issue with finecast the quality control (or lack off), I think they are letting the crappy ones out the door in the hope someone buys it who won't notice or care.

I also haven' noticed this massive improvement in definition, I can't see the difference when they are sprayed, I think I would be more respective to it if it was a tad cheaper.

I think Finecast is okay.

Its very light and easy to work with and all in all I like it more than metal, GW just needs to not sell models that aren't complete. My Bloodthirster has bubbles in many places and I shouldn't have to pay $50 for a model that needs work.

I have never had a problem with Finecast *knocks on wood* the only problem I have with it is that metal models are must easier to strip just soak in nail polish remover or paint thinner I don't think finecast would fair as well. lol

i think finecast as a thing is good, but the insane price only gets them an "okay"
