FINECAST... yea or nah?

It has worked just fine for me so far. I had a little bubble on the stomach of my shaggoth but that took all of a minute to fix. The big downside is the weight. I love the weight of a pewter model. This is counteracted by the ease of gluing in my opinion. Over all its ok just different from the previous.

I prefer plastic for all models, even the large ones. I really don't enjoy fighting with pewter models, regardless of size and the finecast is a reasonable substitution for the time being.

I own a few finecast and haven't had too much trouble with them. I don't like how spears, axes, and other weapons that are long usually are bent and can't seemingly be shaped straight.

Also, I have heard rumors of people leaving finecast in their cars and coming back to puddles from exposure to heat. THAT makes me weary.

Overall, I'll say its OK simply because I then don't have to deal with stupid pewter. :P

I have heard this rumor as well, and I've always wondered if it would be true. Admittedly, at the prices they are charging, I'm not willing to test this theory.
Does anyone on here have actual first hand experience with this happening?

My friend bought himself another VC character and left it in his car...it was a very sad sight. It wasn't much of a puddle as it was like how a candle melts away. So with that, finecast needs to be stored in room temp!

WOW... that is absolutely horrible. :'( I can't see why GW just doesn't produce all of it's models from plastic.

I can't see why GW just doesn't produce all of it's models from plastic.
That's because a steel mould for a hard plastic sprue cost tens of thousands of pounds, while they use rubber/latex moulds for finecast, and those cost much much less (hundreds?). So they need to sell a hundred times more of the plastic model to get the same profit.

I guess that would be a pretty good reason to do so! Thanks

Tended towards the negative here, not had good times when I tried seeing if the material was any good. Oh and GW want you to return either the faulty parts which they replace or the entire which they replace now. I guess that replacing finecast suddenly fgot way too costly for them :P.

I am on my 4th rocklobber atm and still emailing them saying "this is not a cast which is acceptable".

In theory the material should be great, its easy to cut and convert, bending it is easy just heat it. The upping of the price for "Better detail" (Tom Kirkby) was unjutified as the material is a lot cheaper and the low melting point seems to be causing a lot of problems.

I'd say it's ok. Easier to work with then metal, but sometimes the model is not in good condition.

I would like to add that I've heard the horror stories of finecast softening in the heat, and I await with some trepidation our next hot summer (last summer was rather mild here). Three years ago we had a week or so of straight 45º+ temps (that's Celcius - that's 113º+F) - Google the Black Saturday bushfires. My old lead dragon softened to the point where it partially collapsed under its own weight - it now kisses the ground pope-style. If Finecast is as heat-sensitive as that, I won't be impressed.

I like working with plastic resin, or 'finecast', models. They are much easier to glue, paint and convert! As mentioned, bend pieces, like spears, are a problem. But these are easely replaced with a paper clip.

I'd much rather have a painted plastic resin model fall and break then a metal figure fall and bend. A plastic resin model just glues together and it's fixed again. The metal model's paint chips and painting can begin all over again. Metal ones are more vulnerable due to their weight while transporting, or if they fall over on the table, or if they fall of the table.

Although, I do not like the price increase just because they upgraded their production process. Give your plastic resin models a fancy name and charge extra. That's just not done!

Finecast is not plastic DAcid, it's a type of resin. :) I do however agree with you that the switch in material shouldn't raise the price.

But even with the higher prices I prefer Finecast. I'd never even consider buying units or monsters (or even characters, nowadays) in metal. I bought a few metal models when I first started out and I've regretted it since.

METAL IS BETTER!!!!!!!
WHY DO THEY FIX WHAT IS NOT BROKEN!!!!???? Oh yea I forgot, it's to rip us all off!
I HATE finecast. As a model builder of many years their attempt at resin SUCKS. Bubbles, too light on the tabletop, detail is good, but really they are jsut not good enough for me.

I voted OK, i love the detail and the fact it's not pewter. I hate how fragile it is.

I believe that the price increase was in responce to the ammount of miscasts they have with the range. The miscast rate in the finecast range is like 1 in 4 where with the metal ones its like 1 in 100.
However it doesnt justify the ammount of miscast models i have seen, and i really dont think that anyone can justify £60 for 5 models
I quite like the finecast modles because of the detail but im shocked that they actually make any money from them at all
