Considering we have that silly monster in the upcoming book, and/if the rules will stay the same as those of Storm of Magic, will anyone bother to use one? Could it be a viable addiction (of course without knowing what else we got). Myself, right now, don't think will find room for it. Yes, for about the same price of 3 skullcrushers, we have a flying monster with 6 s6 attacks, but on the other hand it's got T5 and a mere 4 wounds......and the best protection you can get is a 4+as for the cost of 5 marauders with flails. |

I wouldn't assume its unchanged, it no doubt will have been tweaked much like the griffon was. |

A flyer is a flyer, with some small changes it could be worth using, as long as you don't face an army full of cannons at least! |

4 wounds and T5 means that cannons are not the only thing you have to fear. It will die easily against BS shotting and even not-so-good combat units. If you keep it cheap it could be a useful flanker, true, but if it's a rare choice i suspect we will have much better things to spend our points in. @Kormak: the griffon stayed the same as far as i know, regarding stats. Maybe he had a point drop? But I suppose you can't give him all that cool upgrades from SoM too. Edited by DarkSchneider, Jan 21 2013, 05:51 PM.

Ahh but you're forgetting the importance of being able to park your flying beasty behind your Chaos Trolls who will hopefully stop the cannonball before it hits your Chimera. Trolls and Chimera move up 12" on turn 1. Chimera is in combat on turn 2. That's pretty decent especially if we can upgrade it with, for example, the Mark of Nurgle. |

I believe the griffon got the bloodroar special rule which is amazingly useful. |

This. +1 Its all about how you play. Individual unit discussions are strictly theoretical. How is the army put together as a whole determines if an individual model/unit is viable or not. |

Yeah but that "troll tactic" is nuts. I mean, what is the point of having a flying monster if you are forced to hide him behind a M6 unit? Without considering the additional movement you lose by deploying in the back. And as I said, cannons are not the main problem for that monster, cannons are trouble for anything, it's no use always worring about them. The problem is that with 4 wounds and T5 any decent unit you charge will probably wreck the hell out of the beast. |

I believe it got +1 strength and points reduction, it may have got a extra wound, not sure, unlike a griffon it does require a lord level character to use it. Until we have the book no point in moaning about it |

As always, it depends on the price. If I can get a Chimera without a rider out of my Rare allowance for say, 150 points, I'd definitely think about bringing 2 of them and putting other pieces (like Chaos Trolls) out there for target saturation purposes. |

Well exactly, a pair of those running about at the right price with kb and those stomps could be a very nice character killer, good bye lvl4 wizard. |

Also, a note on the Griffon - it got +1S and +1W in the new Empire book. |

Griffons don't even exist in the new Empire books, they were replaced by Imperial Griffons. It's an entirely new monster. :) I'll use the chimera, since I already have it. And I like monsters. Theo |

Chimera doesn't have KB, that's the Manticore. Chimera got 6 S6 attacks, which is not bad, if it gets an extra wound then it is worth a try |
