G'day, Assuming the rumors are true about unbreakable and the DP getting a big boost, what are people's thought's on how to use him on the table? My initial thoughts are despite he's unbreakable and such, you still have to get him into combat somehow. A 500 point Daemon General of death is going to be top priorty to target... So I'm thining run him with wings behind 2 Chimeras to obsorb cannonballs and offer cover? Maybe a screen with Dogs since the Belakor model isn't too big and hounds should offer hard cover? Thoughts? I am thinking the former myself. Two chimeras, followed by a deamon prince, with some skullcrushers/dragon ogres/skullcrushers/slaughter brutes following suit. The chimeras should be able to charge something in the back line due to their fly and large target, followed by the deamon prince into the unit you are really after. He should hold long enough for you to ravage a flank with dragon ogres or skullcrushers or slaughterbrute or any of the m6 monstrous/monster options we are looking to have. |

As always balancing effectiveness with points is my main concern- I don't want to have to block my daemon with chimeras, I want to be able to deploy and field my chimeras where they are going to be most useful. That in mind, I plan to use him much like you would a disc lord- with the 3+ ward and rerolling 1s he should survive for a second turn charge. If MoN is -1 for shooting, even more so. |

He cannot have a 3+ ward. He has a 5+ ward and only 25p to spend on magic items (100 on gifts). Also the mark of Tzeench on him does not impprove wardsave. D... |

He get's the ward save bonus of tzeench, if he has the mark. Why wouldn't he? With tzeench he gets Hatred, he gets to re-roll 1's on his ward save and channeling attempts. |

The mark gives him indeed the reroll on 1s, but what I meant it does not improve his wardsave from 5+ to 4+ like regular mark of Tzeench does. |

Hatred of Khorne. He only gets to reroll hits if he's attacking, say, Khorne Chaos Knights. |

Im going with Tzeetch Flyer, Lvl 4, Lore of Metal. Scaly Skin, Armor, Sword of Change, Chaos Familiar. 515 pts (OMFG! I have NEVER put down a single model of such high pt value in WFB OR 40K before) He'll be 1" behind my 6x3 Skullcrusher unit at deployemnt, flanked by 6x4 Tzeentch Bd&Sw Warriors with BSB on one side and 6x3 Khorne Halberdiers on the other. Ready to charge, but in range for magic, and providing the Ld9. He'll make a nice flank attack for either warrior unit. |

Sword of change is 30 points so he isn't able to use it. It's a crap weapon anyhow. |

Thanks. Yeah, Im sorry to see the glave of putrifaction gone. On a DP going after monsters/chariots etc. would have been nice. |

The book states that "A model with the mark of tzeentch gets a 6+ ward save, but if they already have one then it is improved by one, to a maximum of 3+. Unless it's in parts of the book I haven't seen. If a DP has the Mark of Tzeench he gets the improved save. |

It has different descriptions for each mark for the DP, so only those effects apply not the standard. |

DP's get "Daemon of X" not "Mark of X". So, 5+ ward save is the best all-purpose ward you are going to get. I'm thinking of a Nurgle DP with: Level 4, Wings, CA, Sword of Striking, Charmed Shield, DbG, Soul Feeder, Nurgle's Rot and the BW. Hide him behind a block of 9 Trolls with Throgg at the start and let him buff my horde of Nurgle Warriors with Festus. Oh the Pestilent Carnage! Edited by Zero, Feb 2 2013, 06:01 AM.
