So then, this will be my first army since getting my hands on the book. First battle will be against Dwarfs.

Level 2 Sorcerer on foot (Lore of Metal?). 145pts

15 Chaos Warriors with HW and Shields. Champion and Standard. 245pts

15 Chaos Warriors with HW and Shields. Champion and Standard. 245pts

6 Chaos Ogres with HW and Heavy Amour. Full Command. 228pts

Gorebeast Chariot. 130pts

That comes to 993 points. I understand you can't really go wrong at this points level, but can anyone spot anything glaringly wrong?

Welcome to the warriors, a wise choice.

Your list is a great start but IMO it lacks speed and punch, I run my warriors with halbards and shields because not alot stands up to a strength 5 core choice and mark them khorne, bump then up to 17 and only one unit (370 with fc)

I'd give the sorceror the spell familiar to give him a 33% chance of channeling over a 16.5, plus, the extra spell makes him a beast, then make him fire or metal and your on to a winner at 170

Then if you want you can keep the ogres (IMO trolls do the job better) and gore beast chariot with 102 left to get some chaff, Personally id scrap the ogres n trolls all together n get a regen breath weapon chimera and some dogs to go with your gorebeast but thats just me

I havent tailored your list to only fight dwarfs because I think thats cheap, but your new 17 warriors, chimera, chariot, hero and dogs is an all round and competitive 1000, just my 2c

Good luck regardless mate.

Thanks for the feedback therealsuperman!

Halberds on Warriors feels a bit too expensive at this level, but I take your point.

So, here's the revised list with a bit of extra punch.

Level 2 Sorcerer on foot. Chaos Familiar and Enchanted Shield. 175pts

18 Chaos Warriors with HW and Shields. Champion and Standard. 300pts

6 Chaos Ogres with HW and Heavy Amour. Full Command. 228pts

8 Warhounds. 48pts

Chimera with Regenerate. 245pts

Your more than welcome

The ogres and chimera will get into combat fast giving you time to get your warriors in, and once there in they will obliterate in combat

the best of luck in your game, be sure to post the results here

Is this your first WHFB army? In that case I'd highly recommend you stick to units like warriors, knights, marauders, ogres and chariots. Those are easy to handle (and usually have a very obvious purpose), so you can focus on learning 'normal' parts of the game before you go on to the weird stuff (flying monsters and the likes). After a few games, you can still add a chimera and enjoy watching it eat some dwarfes :)

Otherwise:Warhounds aren't there to fight. They grant you cover, they block enemy units, and hunt warmashines (ok, that one is actually fighting). The 3 models in the second rank are not needed.

Why no musician on the warriors? Fast reforms are always usefull, you don't want your 300pts block to stay out of position after chasing down some unit.

I'd probably take a BSB over a sorcerer. It would be a weird game against dwarves (no magic on either side), but a lvl2 won't be a gamebreaker anyways.

The flaming breath on the chimera is great, but watch out for flaming cannons (and sadly, dwarfes can bring them). Having 1/4 of your army taken out by one shot will put you in an akward position.
