Hello all, I have been slowly (soooo slowly) assembling and painting my WoC over the past 6 months. Its now all pretty much there... I have had a couple of fairly unsuccesful battles and wanted some comments on my latest list. I would appreciate any tips or tweaks to the list in preparaton for a game next tuesday (I dont have any more models). DP MoN (ChFam, ScSk, SF, Dawnstone, Lvl1 Nurg, Chaos Armour, Flight) 420 Exalted (ToE, Third Eye, Warrior Bane, MoT, BSB, Chaos Steed) >In Knights. 206 Rare (450) 3 x Crushers (Hammer) 3 x crushers (Hammer) Special (425) 9 x Chaos Knights MoT Ensorcelled Weapons Full Command (Anvil) Core (500) 5 x Dogs (chaff) 5 x Dogs (chaff) 5 x MHorse Musc MoS javelins and spears (redirector/chaff) 5 x MHorse Musc MoS javelins and spears (redirector/chaff) 10 x MHorse Musc & SBearer MoK Flails and TA (support) 9 Drops, 2 levels of magic, all mounted. aim is to abuse warmachines and wizards with MHorse and DP whilst crushers roll one flank. with Knights anchoring centre... shame i have zero skills in battle....oh welll Skulls for the Skull Throne! dice gods be kind! |

Against Skaven you will have a rough time and get stuck, although you get to avoid #13. Against Dwarfs they will hit the heck out of you with their WMs and wait to finish you of, as for the DP he might as well hide. Against O&G, I think Manglers and squigg herds are going to have a field day. Against HEs, TKs, Brets, Beastmen and Empire you are going to enjoy yourself. List overall looks good, it's just that I prefer seeing my boys on foot... (Infantry meaning) |

Since its an all mounted army wouldn't you want to have a lord on a chaos steed or juggernaut or a sorcerer lord instead of a DP? Also you might want to use the obsidian amulet on your hero for the MR with the MoT you would have a 4+ magic ward save for the entire unit the hero is with. I would also suggest getting the blasted standard for your knights and a dispel scroll. |

I started with a lord on juggernaut which was cool and would unlock mono khorne glory option... But my local club is quite competitive so no magic could end In tears quite quickly. I then thought mounted sort lord, and converted archaeon model to do just this, but again after getting munched by other guys DPs I kind of decided a DP was an auto include if you want any chance of winning against other competitive lists. Therefore I added old bloodthirster wings to my chaos sorceror and he has ascended into a demon prince. So thematically he is mounted, but has a demons head and wings, so he counts as DP. Few questions: at 2000pts can I get away with no magic and just run a Killy lord on juggernaut? I think it would be hard. I think if you go all khorne you need one or two flying DP so you can hunt the enemy wizards and take them out. Thanks for advise on obsidian amulet, and will also consider blasted standard, just hard to squeeze in the points as I cant reduce core or juggers, so would need to shave DP further or drop a knight.... |

What did the O&G bring in the field? What did you do for the Manglers and squigg herds? (did you manage to sarifice your hounds and Marauder cav on them?) |

O&G guy brought a spider themed list. Two massive aragnaroks one with shaman and webapult and one one with war platform (I don't know the book) two big units of poison spiders. A couple of spider mounted mages in savage orcs.... I failed badly on deployment and strategy... But I learnt some things. Firstly I deployed my crushers on one flank and he simply scooted all his troops to the other flank and basically refused one of my flanks effectively taking out 3 crushers till the last couple of turns. His poison spiders harried my fast cav with shooting, and being only five models with poor armour the wilted pretty quickly. He dominated the magic phase, as at this point I didn't have the DP just a jug lord. Then basically he tar pitted my knights and lord with an aragnaorok ( in hind sight I should have avoided these 10 wound high toughness beasties ) And then he combo charged my units one by one with multiflank charges. I was trounced. To be fair I'm very much a beginner and this guy has 20 years of experience, plays every week, has several armies, and takes competitive lists masked as fluffy ones. I took my thrashing in good humour and it hasn't put me off. I just need to get better at deployment, and concentrate on not letting the enemy dictate terms. I had the all can army I should have been the one combo charging....and picking match ups. But to be fair spiders are damn quick and he used terrain to his advantage, I.e hiding behind buildings then crawling straight over them! What should I have done? Other than not deploy my crushers where they could be ignored, and not taking zero magic against magic heavy opponents? Edited by Wockie, May 26 2013, 09:15 PM.

That would be 8 wounds if I remember correctly, and T6... Taking 2 Araknaroks isn't very competitive, there are plenty of armies that smile big time and lubricate their cannons,catapults/trebs, bolt throwers when it comes to these big fellas. He almost certainly played 2nd so thats's 2 good rounds of shooting they get... What you should've done. OK... Even if he knew he was facing WoC, a 6x3 WoC Khorne would work, since in my experience they might as well bring an Araknarok down asap. Getting flanked is something you should've avoided at all costs... Spider riders is not competitive, they cost too much for their points. High Armor save troops usually take care of them, but you could even try (if he dared stand&shoot) charge them with a 6x5 marauders unit. More than sufficient to get the job done. As for the Savage Orcs, well, this is a tough one. Usually I deal with them with my 2nd unit of Warriors, but they are tough to beat during the 1st round of combat. If both stay, then you get the upper hand... I usually field 30-40 marauders to keep guys stuck and mess with them (sometimes even 2x30), 2 units of 6x3 Warriors (buffled for the mark), 2-3 hounds packs of 5, a Sorcerer flying around and 5-10 Knights + BSB. Lately I've been starting using Jags in a group of 3, starting to fancy them actually.. Do you have his exact list...? |

Thanks for responding, Yes I'd don't know the exact stats of the Aragnarok, although I know it went toe to toe with a chaos lord for at least two rounds of close combat without dying and whilst it didn't hurt him back it bogged him down whilst the rest of the army got eaten. In terms of the competiviness of the list, I will take your word for it that this wasn't a competitive list, but he tends to bring a different army each week and the common denonominator is that they are themed, well painted, based, and he has a reputation for winning. For example his woc list he beat me with had two hard to kill disc riders and a fully tooled DP as well as two hell cannons. He certainly doesn't mind maxing the stinger units in list. I wonder how his armies would perform under sŵedish comp system.... Anyhoo back to the topic, if the answer to his aragnarocks is war machines, you can see by my list at the start of the post is all mounted so I had no shooting to speak of... And from your solutions posted, I don't have hordes of maurauders or ranked warriors.... My woc is all mounted, I bought these as a break from my hordes of infantry in my other army which is empire. I'm not worried though as I see it as a tactical challenge to make the all mounted list work, so it should be satisfying when I get a win! Given that my core is pretty fixed with 20 mhorse and 10 dogs. I have 10 knights and 6 crushers. The main area for tweaking is the lords and hero slots. What do you think would complement this army Option a : DP and a mounted bsb in knights? Option b: 2x khorne DP Option c : jug lord and mounted sorc Option d: chariot mounted bsb and chariot mounted sorc? Cheers for any response.... Struggling a bit. Well, if I may dare express again my opinion to what you have suggested... I'd go for c) ^_^ Option (a) breaks your themed all-cavarly list, option (b) wouldn't gear either of them well enough (although it would be terryfying to imagine 2 DP), option (d) uses chariots. Not a fan myself, others will say otherwise... -_- |

Thanks tough one, Of course you can dare...you play chaos! Who dares wins baby! I've taken your advice on lords and heroes Im going to try a fully pimped lvl5 (familiar)nurg lord on demonic steed, he's going to ride in a block of 20'marauder horse... Light armour plus shield and mounted means 4+ save plus -1 to hit from mon and will try for regen or toughness on first turn then it's either poison blades or curse of leper then miasma. The main maurauder horse block will be flanked by 6 juggers on one side and 8 knights + jug bsb on the other to make a brick sandwich. Revised list Lvl4 sorc lord on daemonic mount (soul feeder, nurgle rot, spell familiar, talisman of protection, OTS, enchanted shield, filth mace) = 5 levels of nurgly goodness 1+/4++ -1 to hit, T5, no wards saves allowed, and if he gets blades of putrefaction off he's doin poison on 5&6s with d3 wounds and terror. Oh yes and nurgle rot is going to ignore armour and ward saves. 20 maurauder horse with shields light armour spears and javs mon. Full command. (lose fast cav with sorc lord anyhow) Exalted bsb on jugger mok charmed shield, biting blade. In knights 8 knights mok, ensorcelled weapons, musc, standard. 6 skull crushers 2x 5 mutant poion hounds. only 3 main units but they are all pretty meaty, and the nurgle augment spells are per unit, so toughness buffs and blades of putrefecation, as well as regen all on offer. Any ideas on the above? Better than the original list? Or worse? My gut feeling is that it is less balanced but easier to play and probably more fun too... Edited by Wockie, May 29 2013, 04:55 AM.

Sorry to revive my dead thread but wanted to close the loop. I used this list last night against Orcs and Goblins He had (dont know the correct names) 2 black orcs and goblin shamen 2 massive blocks of night goblins with fantatics and nets 2 spear chukkas 1 rock lobber 1 big unit of big uns 1 unit of wolf riders 1 mangler squid What went well: - Dogs worked well as chaff, drawing out fanatics and generally beng a nuisance - Knights rolled his weak flank taking the wolf riders then both spear chukkas. - Juggers lost a couple of guys to foot of mork/gork? but then proceeded to romp through biguns and killed shamen (ran down unit) then turned and munched large block of night goblins and their black orc (then ran down unit). I think running them in two ranks worked, yes i lost the suporting attacks from the jugs at the back, but it also meant that 4 of them got to combat... might try two units of 3 but gut feeling is that the unit of 6 was good. the 3 supporting attacks from the riders at the back was nice. - My marauder horse horde with Sorc lord did well. I ran them 10 wide in two ranks with sorc in the middle. First turn IF on enhanced fleshy abundance...all units got 5+ regen... the IF killed three MHorse but the regen saved a chaos knight on the following turn so....was ok. Chaos Lord got +1 T and +1 W. Turn two Sorc killed the mangelr squid with Steam of Corruption followed by Rancid Visitations (and got 2 6s for a total of 6 wounds and 7 toughness....by turn 2!) Large block of Night goblins failed panci test for Manglers death and fled the table due to their massive Bus formation!!! he he Next turn rock lobber landed on Sorc Lords head...failed 4+ward save he rolled 6 for wounds. dead. omg. the MHorsemen marched on and combo charge the biguns with the juggernauts for a complete floor wipe of the O&G.....and with it my sweet sweet first victory with WOC..... Post match tweaks.... im going to tone down the Sorcs offence, (i.e drop filth mace) and give the Crushers ensorcelled weapons. except from that i was pretty happy with it. Was nice to win without the Nurgle DP, Gorebeast or Hortense,,, which are often criticised as OP. Edited by Wockie, Jun 6 2013, 04:33 AM.
