So, I am still working on making my themed list for the new book. My lead character is a custom character that is unaligned. I asked my friends to come up with character concepts so I could put them in my army. My former roomie came up with a compelling unaligned concept that I want to adapt into my BSB. Basically, he is unaligned, rides a chariot, and wields two swords with incredible precision and skill. With these ideas in mind, I have the following ideas. Which one sounds better from both the stance of fluff and tactically? First build: Exalted Hero Mark of Nurgle (Less of the fluff and more for the -1 to hit, flavored as an expert at dueling) Gorebeast Chariot (Actually using a Stegadon here, as I have a heavy prehistoric theme in my army) w/ Mark of Nurgle (just because it needs it if the character riding has a mark) Fencer's Blades (For WS 10, so never being hit on better than 5's) Scaly Skin (For the extra protection and getting him down to 1+ armor save) Other Trickster's Shard (Not sure how to flavor this one, but it seemed like a good way to spend some remaining points) This build has the higher armor save, WS 10, and forces the opponent to reroll ward saves, which makes him better against characters, so keeps with his duelist idea. Second Build: Exalted Hero Mark of Nurgle Gorebeast Chariot w/ Mark of Nurgle Additional Hand Weapon (Simply because this is the flavor of the character) Glittering Scales (For that additional -1 to hit, which means he is being hit on 6's) Scaly Skin (To make up for the loss of Armor Save) Then either Other Trickster's Shard (For same reasons above) or Dawnstone (For a bit more defense in rerolling armor saves) This build is relying on avoidance a bit more since he would have Light Armor, and combat lords would probably only be hitting on 5's rather than 6's, so more of a rank-and-file killer than directly for characters. So, which idea sounds better for this BSB character? Edited by AnomalyOfAwesome, May 30 2013, 03:41 AM.

I don't really like to mount a BSB in a chariot, it isn't as fast or maneuverable as other mount options (disc, steed, daemonic mount) and doesn't offer the same level of protection as being in a unit when on foot. I guess it comes down to the role you want your BSB to play in the army. To me, it seems obvious to just have him stay alive in order to provide the all important Ld re-roll. This allows all other units in his bubble to function more effectively. When giving him a mount, that is to allow him to move quickly to wherever the re-roll will be most beneficial, and do so safely. If you want a dueller or a character killer, I would make a different character (not the BSB) to do that. BSB is too important for the functionality of the entire army to risk like that. If you're doing it solely for fluff/theme reasons, then the first build would be my choice given what you posted as options. |

I was not aware of not being able to take two hand weapons on a mounted character. Will keep that in mind. OTher than that, any other ideas about the builds? |

I like the fluff! A giant armored guy riding a triceratops owns. Good job! A small contribution I could add. You mentioned you weren't sure how to work the other tricker's shard into your fluff. Your guy is a master duelist! Able to foil the guard and find a chink in the armor of anything he faces. Even magical shields yield before his dazzling swordsmanship. I admit a BSB on a chariot would be a huge firemagnet. It wouldn't be very competative, but if you don't play in tourneys and your friends aren't the dwarf/empire gunline type, give that business a shot and let us know how it works! |

The best duelists you can get are: MoN/MoK Scaled Skin Halberd Helm of Many Eyes Dawnstone or MoT Third Eye of Tzeentch Sould Feeder Great Weapon Talisman of Preservation or MoK Scaled Skin Additional hand weapon Helm of Many Eyes Strenght Potion Doombulls, vampire lords, daemon princes and ogre tyrants will still melt their faces though, so you'll need a proper daemonic mount or a chaos lord against them. |

Unfortunately, none of those builds fit the flavor I am going for. I do see the appeal of them, but I often sacrifice competitive edge in the face of getting my army to look exactly right. So since my friend came up with the concept, I am trying to stick to it as close as possible. Thank you for the suggestions, though. Unfortunately, one of my opponents is Dwarves, so I have a feeling this guy will attract a lot of attention LoL |

I thought with BSBs you weren't allowed to take additional magic items? |

Only if you take a magic banner. If you just have the normal battle standard you can take regular kit. |
