Okay, admittedly, I'm not a complete newbie around here. I've been building my army for a while, but I'm more of a painter than a strategist. I don't do the extreme number crunching, and I certainly don't play in tournaments. I haven't spent a lot of time with the new army book, and I'm just trying to get up to speed on what's good and what's not. I just want to double-check my assumptions to make sure my assessments are correct: Daemon Prince : Great, general of choice, make'm a L4 Nurgle sorc and tear the field up Warriors : Still awesome, sword n' board / Nurgle makes'm a handy unit. Marauders : Not worth it. MAYBE worth it in small units, but that's debatable. Forsaken : Light Infantry of choice now (?) Better than Marauders, and definitely better than they used to be. Chosen : Over-priced, not worth it, use Forsaken / Warriors instead Chariots : ... awesome? I think? I've never used them and I got some mixed reviews. Those who like them seem to LOVE them, those who don't seem to swear them off as useless junk. I'm pretty sure I've heard more "yes" than "no" though. Gorebeast Charriots : GET ONE OF THESE DO IT NOW. GET TWO, IN FACT Warshine : Not worth it. Totally "meh" in this book. Ogres : Marginally worse than trolls, but only marginally. Unless you're looking for a tournament edge to your army you won't notice much of a difference. Marauder Horsemen : Still good. Not as good as they used to be, but good. Use'm to hunt war machines. Warhounds : Decent, now, as flankers / harassers (?) --- Sooooo, am I way off? Close? Arguments? Suggestions? |

Pretty spot on, yes. The term you're looking for for Hounds is "redirectors." I made a helpful diagram to explain how they work. |

Nevermind. Just read http://s4.zetaboards.com/cotec/topic/9828165/1/ ... it answered pretty much all of my questions. Thanks. |

Can I also ask you to show how to use warhounds in order to protect Chimera? if this is even possible. If not protect then how to use warhounds to allow Chimera be in combat as soon as possible. Thank you |

It's the very same principle: If you look at the image (very much inspired by wulfrik), the big enemy unit can't charge the chimera because the dogs are in the way. The dogs won't survive that, but they will buy the chimera one round. That's all it needs to fly away (and threaten something somewhere else). |

Gorebeasts chariots are good but far from essential. The best Warriors of chaos armies generally are fast moving ones with a a DP/ Disc & Stubborn lord supported by a few hard-to-kill heroes. The gorebeasts are not optimal in such lists as M6 puts them 1-2 turns behind your attacking force. So once more, there good but it's list dependent. |

Well, I play a fluff army, mono Nurgle. My tactics tend to be very defensive in nature, favoring survivability, and relying on the natural "elite" nature of my army to do the killing for me. I may need to change those tactics, but things like discs are off-limits to me. Would a gorebeast chariot be good in this style army? Slower, more ponderous, but when it hits, it's a steamroller? |

I've taken my new WoC to two tournaments so far. Taken 1st and 2nd place at the two. Led by a nurgle demon prince of death, my army is based around speed and hard hitting units. My core consists of chariots and warhounds. Throw in a Bsb, a chimera and a couple units of skull crushers and you'll be on top of your opponent by turn 2. I run 4 units of vanguarding warhounds that are commonly used to get in my opponent's face in turn one and redirect while I prepare my own charges. |
