My hubby has decided it would be good to start playing war hammer fantasy. He used to play in his youth but I never have. Quite looking forward to painting but stumbling in the dark when it comes to tactics. So I've chosen WoC (mainly as I really like the looks), he is dwarfs. We won't be doing comps and are starting with 1000 pts. I've tried to pick relevant points from other post, but if my army is way off the mark any advice would be good. My hubby just smirked when he saw my list - I fear his competitive side may come out! Chaos sorcerer - level 2, chaos familiar, enchanted shield, talisman of endurance, MoT (220) Chaos warriors - x15, halberds, shields, full command, MoN (330) War hounds - 2 x 5, vanguard (80) Gorebeast chariot (130) Skull crushers - x3, ensorcelled weapons (234) Total = 994 Don't think I've broken any rules but I did literally pick up the rule and army book in the last 2 weeks! Thanks for any help. |

http://s4.zetaboards.com/cotec/topic/9828165/8/#new I highly recommend reading this. It's the 8th edition WoC handbook, it's well thought out and will break down what your force can and cannot do. As for your starting army, though very light on manpower, it seems solid enough, just watch out though. Dwarves have a mean shooting phase and even one lowly Runesmith can kill a magic phase. |

It's a strong list. Pretty much exactly what I played at 1000 points, and it stomped some High Elves. I would go MoN on the wizard so he can join the unit, take lore of death, and drop the halberds though. Magic defense is limited, and Death allows you to snipe out their one or 2 characters, or soften up multi-wound units. Halberds are not points efficient in the new book unless you are in certain circumstances. HW&Shield is the better option with units like Trolls, Skullcrushers, and Gorebeast chariots doing the heavy hitting. Edited by Asamu, Jun 12 2013, 12:08 PM.

Now I've looked a bit harder into tactics - especially against dwarfs, thinking my magic efforts may be futile. Having a re-think.....something to hit machines seems likely. |
