deconstruction of glued models?...

Hey guys, once again I turn to my loving embrace to the eyes of chaos.... blah blah blah :P

I'm having a 'slight' hitch with my construction of my Skullcrushers. The hellstriders are attached to the steeds and I haven't a clue on how to separate them without damaging the models... They seem to be attached with poly-cement. I need your Conversion skills.

Thanks in advance

Ash

Poly cement is re activated with poly cement (as I've discovered to my detriment on one notable occasion) It actually melts the plastic, so gentle application may assist with their removal. It really depends on how much was used and where. It's not an exact science, but maybe with a knife and little poly cement added to the crack you could 'tease away' between sadle and a$$ as you'd just be getting the cement where you need it... I think Slaanesh has invaded my vocabulary this morning :P

I would say you might have to choose which to save, rider or mount, you might not be able to have both. Also if you are just prising them apart it would be much better if they were warmer, a snap will be much less likely.

Hope that helps. God (Slaanesh) speed to you!

Bugger. I have no idea what that is, but it sounds like you're gonna have to choose, rider or mount :-/

You could try Acetone to get rid of the superglue, not tried it myself but it seems that's what recommended by a lot of sites - do a bit of reading up first though as I don't want your models suddenly melting into puddles or anything like that lol

Problem is acetone will most likely melt the plastics as well

no they aren't piles of goo, but the riders are stuck firm lol... So, now I'm trying to figure out how to put barding and additional armor on the steeds and going to sculpt the fur pelts and capes on the riders and still trying to figure out how to bulk them out the rest of the way... *sigh* I just wish I was a better sculptor so I can pull this off right as it's a MAJOR sculpt... EEEP! again ANY suggestions to help me do nice smooth armor is very appreciated.

I've had success soaking for a week in undiluted simple green in the past on a huge batch of space marines. I was just after paint removal because I liked the poses but not paint. Guess who had to reglue about 60 tactical marines that had been pose converted? Not sure if it will work on gorilla glue, I use that stuff now and it's pretty hard to separate even partially dry.

If its just Superglue (even Gorilla Glue Superglue), just stick the model in the freezer for a few hours. That should weaken the glue enough to force the apart.

This is how I do it. You have to be a bit more careful with plastics, just take it slow. If it doesn't seem to come apart, stick it back in the freezer and try again later.
