Greetings, fellow Warriors of Chaos! A long-time lurker, but very seldom poster here.

Please allow me to present to the honored members of the Chamber a few "Work-In-Progress" photos of some of the units from my current project - my own totally "Wolf-Themed" Warriors of Chaos army (greatly inspired by Game of Thrones and by Opti's fantastically cool "Legion of the Raven God") which I've chosen to call "The Dire Wolves of the North"!

Please bear in mind, these are all WIP units, and are also unfortunately all either unpainted or merely primed (thus far); I have very little free time available (at present) to even assemble them, much less paint them (though I WILL be painting them up in the very near future...)!

Most of the units assembled thus far are from a "Clan" dedicated to Khorne, but the army will eventually include representative units from four different Chaos Marauder/Warrior Clans (Bloodwolves, Ironwolves, Steelwolves, and Icewolves), each of whom are dedicated to a specific Chaos God (Khorne, Nurgle, Tzeentch, and Slaanesh). Almost every figure in the army will be converted in some fashion (some more than others!).

Once I actually get the chance to slap-dash a halfway-decent paint job on at least some of these figures, I'll start a more detailed plog (also to be entitled "The Dire Wolves of the North" in "Army Diaries" to track the army's progression, and provide more background on the army itself.

Anyway, on to the pics! Comments, suggestions, and critiques would be much appreciated.

First up, the Jarl of the Blood Wolves and the Great Wolf King in the North, the lycanthropic Daemon Prince of Khorne, Fenris Bloodwolf (my army's General):

Magic Items/Chaos Gifts: Mark of Khorne, Berzerker Sword, Enchanted Shield, Collar of Khorne, Soul Feeder, Scaled Skin, Acid Ichor.

Next, a unit that doubles as either a Chaos Lord or an Exalted Hero (depending on a battle's point value) - Bjorn Bloodwolf, War Chieftain of the Bloodwolf Clan! I'm particularly proud of this model, as I managed to slap him together in a late-night five-hour converting frenzy using parts from seven different model kits:

Magic Items/Chaos Gifts: Mark of Khorne, Direwolf (Counts-As Juggernaught of Khorne), Fencer's Blades (the paired Battle Axes - only weapon I could use to keep with my original concept/theme for the character (see WoC Army Book, page 7) and still give him two hand weapons while mounted (and I checked with my local GW Store Rep, it's legal...), Shield, Talisman of Preservation, Ironcurse Icon, Burning Body.

Up next: Converted Skullcrushers...

Next: A Rare unit (normally led into battle by Bjorn Bloodwolf), the elite heavy cavalry of the Dire Wolves of the North, the Bloodwolf Knights (Counts-As Skullcrushers of Khorne)! Note their distinctive wolf's-head helms (taken from the Space Wolves Grey Hunters sprues):

Packmaster (Counts-As Skullhunter):

Musician:

Standard Bearer (note the Fenrisian Wolf's-head atop the standard; this will be a unifying theme for every troop unit in my army that carries a standard!):

And, purely for the purposes of a little "thematic" comic relief, I magnetized a little Game of Thrones-ish "plaque" that I can attach to the front of the standard when I elect to give the Bloodwolf Knights a War Banner as a Magic Standard (heh-heh):

Next, one of my Core units; the Blood Wolves (a unit of Chaos Warriors of Khorne, each bearing two hand weapons and shields). Instead of using the standard Chaos Warrior heads, I wanted to make my troops "stand out" a little (in a more "Viking-esque" fashion); so they all have Space Wolf heads.

And, again, another wolf's-head banner:

Lastly, a Special unit; The Iron Wulfen; a unit of lycanthropic Chaos Trolls, part of the Ironwolf (Nurgle) Clan contingent of the Dire Wolves of the North. These were really simple conversions (they were originally intended to represent Skin Wolves of Nurgle), using Chaos Spawn bodies and Thunderwolf heads, but I think they turned out pretty well:

Well, that's all for now. I'll also be including several units of Chaos Warhounds in my army (being proxied by Fenrisian Wolves, which I think look MUCH better as Chaos Warhounds- check out Opti's "Legion of the Raven God" if you don't believe me!), but as they aren't "conversions", strictly speaking, I won't be posting pictures of them until they've been painted.

More pictures coming soon! My next "sub-project"; two Chaos Sorcerers (War Shamans of the Ironwolf (Nurgle) Clan and the Steelwolf (Tzeentch) Clan, respectively...with converted Fenrisian Wolf headdresses...)!

I like the theme.

One thing. The wolf heads on then skullhunters may be too much.

I can really see forsaken as man sized werewolves as well.

HAHA! Those conversions are freakin' awesome! Take this from someone who *loathes* the daemon prince model, yours looks sweet. While the skinwolves have great models, the rules are slightly sub-par. A daemon prince of khorne has the perfect stat-line for a bloodcrazed wulfen. Also, your banner earns you a blessing, hands down.

If I have any criticism, I think I would have to agree with brodrick. I'm not sure entirely what throws me about the wolf helmets on the skull crushers. Maybe they are a bit static compared to the rest of the model? The wolves themselves look like they are lunging forwards to bite someone in half, the riders are gearing up to swing an ax like they are shooting for a stand-up triple, and the helmets look sort of like kids in grade school sitting up straight for a teacher.

@ Ashicus79: Thank you! I will try to get some painted up for you as soon as I can!

@ brodrick & Flint13: Thanks very much for the critique! Yeah, when I first put those Counts-As Skullcrushers together, I, too, was a little bit disappointed with the somewhat "bland" look of the helmets (when compared with the rest of the models' appearance).

As it happens, what I had been trying to do with the Bloodwolf Knights was to convey two different "themes" at the same time.

Firstly, I wanted to kind of "set them apart" from the rest of the army, as a sort of "elite cadre" of mounted warriors; all other troops in the army (except certain Characters) would be bare-headed (and mostly footsloggers), while only the elite Bloodwolf Knights would wear distinctively wolf-shaped helms (as a mark of their station).

Secondly, as a "tip-of-the-hat" to Game of Thrones, I was thinking, "Wouldn't it fit really well with the overriding "wolf" theme of the army to include a group of mounted knights who wore helmets that looked kind of like the one worn by Sandor Clegane (A.K.A. "The Hound") from Game of Thrones?"

Anyways, that's what I was trying to do. I think they'll look better once they get painted up (picture in your mind the more-or-less "standard" red-and-brass Khorne Skullcrusher color scheme, but with a BLACK wolf's-head helm with glowing RED eyes...)!

Also, I MAY (at some point) try to emulate Opti and add some Forsaken Werewolves to my army...however, I've already tried to do two different conversion models of them myself, and both of them turned out looking TERRIBLE when compared to the fine work he's accomplished with HIS Forsaken. I'm too embarrassed to even show what mine look like...

The next step for me is to convert a couple of Chaos Sorcerers (with wolf-style headdresses; think "Roman Legionary standard-bearer" for the look), who will lead the Ironwolf (Nurgle) Clan and Steelwolf (Tzeentch) Clan contingents of the army.

Next, I'll add two more Chaos Warrior blocks (halberd & shield) - the Iron Wolves and the Steel Wolves - to "escort" the Sorcerers (who will be "tricked out" enough to give a good account for themselves in a fight, in addition to adding some much-needed spellcasting ability to the army).

Then, I'll be adding a unit of six Tzeentchian "Chaos Werewolf Ogres" with Great Weapons (part of the Steelwolf Clan, using Hordes Circle Orboros Warpborn Skinwalkers as proxies - they're perfectly-sized to represent Chaos Ogres, and their look couldn't match the army better)!

More pics coming soon...

@ Asvaldir: Thank you vey much! Glad you like the banner!

I'm sort of trying to go for the "Robb Stark" look from the banner (plate armor, wolf pelt capes, no helmets, pet Dire Wolves close at hand, stalking the enemy) with my three Chaos Warrior heavy infantry Core units (and their three accompanying Chaos Warhound units).

@ snyggejygge: Thanks for the comment!

@ jdo: Thanks, I appreciate that very much!

Ok, folks, here's another batch of WIP converted figure photos (again, not painted yet, so please forgive me):

First up, we have a Chaos Sorcerer of Nurgle; Gungir Ironwolf, War Shaman of the Ironwolf Clan (complete with an actual Fenrisian Wolf headdress, to help make him stand apart from the rank-and-file Chaos Warriors of the Iron Wolves that he will be accompanying). He will command the forces of the Ironwolf Clan that accompany the Dire Wolves of the North:

Posted Image

Magic Items/Chaos Gifts: Mark of Nurgle (Lore of Nurgle or Lore of Death), Sword of Striking, Charmed Shield, Talisman of Endurance, Nurgle's Rot, Poisonous Slime.

Sigurd Steelwolf, War Shaman of the Steelwolf Clan, will also be a converted model that looks exactly like Gungir Ironwolf (the only difference being that his color scheme will be Tzeentchian, instead of Nurglish). He will lead the Steelwolf Clan contingent of the Dire Wolves of the North:
Posted Image

Magic Items/Chaos Gifts: Mark of Tzeentch (Lore of Metal or Lore of Tzeentch), Sword of Change, Spellshield, Third Eye of Tzeentch.

I also wanted to show a little "close-up" of some of my Blood Wolves (Chaos Warriors of Khorne, armed with two hand weapons and shields):
Posted Image

Lastly (and I realize that these aren't really "conversions", per se, except for the fact that they've been mounted on square Warhammer bases), I wanted to show the proxy figures that I will be using to represent members of a tribe of Chaos "Werewolf" Ogres who go into battle under the banner of the Steelwolf Clan; the Steel Wulfwere (Chaos Ogres armed with Great Weapons)!
Posted Image

Posted Image

Now, admittedly, these are obviously not Warhammer figures (they are from the Hordes miniatures game line (Circle Orboros Warpborn Skinwalkers, to be precise)); BUT, they ARE perfectly-sized to proxy Warhammer Ogres...and can you think of any other figures available out there that could better represent a unit of Chaos Ogres afflicted with Lycanthropy ("werewolfism"), physically warped and twisted by the shape-shifting power of Tzeentch?

That's all for now, gotta go back to work...more pics coming soon!

Speaking of painting, folks, I would like to ask the community-at-large a question regarding my intended "basic" color schemes for each of the separate contingents of my army.

Now as I've mentioned before, I will be using various "Wolf" totems, icons, banners and such as a unifying theme for the army, instead of a unifying paint scheme.

This is because, like your typical Empire (or Brettonian) army, the force (as a whole) won't have a single unifying color palette.

The Dire Wolves of the North is, in effect, an alliance of several different Chaos Warrior "Clans", each of which venerates a different Chaos God (the "favored colors" of which I intend to have reflected in their respective color palettes).

So, what do you all think about the following "basic" color palettes (and these are listed (mostly) with the "old" versions of the current Citadel colors, as I'm not as familiar with the new colors as I would like to be - but you'll get the general idea...)?

Blood Wolves (dedicated to Khorne)
Primary color: Blood Red
Secondary Color: Chaos Black
Highlight Color: Brazen Brass
Warriors' hair: Blood Red (redheads)
Warriors' skin: Reddish-pink
Warriors' eyes: "Glowing" Blood Red (no pupils)

Iron Wolves (dedicated to Nurgle)
Primary Color: Chaos Black
Secondary Color: Goblin Green
Highlight Color: Scorched Brown
Warriors' hair: Chaos Black (raven-haired)
Warriors' skin: A very pallid greenish-white
Warriors' eyes: "Glowing" Goblin Green (no pupils)

Steel Wolves (dedicated to Tzeentch)
Primary Color: Boltgun Metal
Secondary Color: Shining Gold
Highlight Color: Macragge Blue
Warriors' hair: Golden Yellow (blondes)
Warriors' skin: Very light Caucasian
Warriors' eyes: "Glowing" Golden Yellow (no pupils)

Ice Wolves (dedicated to Slaanesh)
Primary Color: Skull White
Secondary Color: Liche Purple
Highlight Color: Basically, some form of "Pink"
Warriors' hair: Skull White (albino)
Warriors' skin: Skull White or EXTREMELY light pink (albino)
Warriors' eyes: "Glowing" Liche Purple or pink (no pupils)

Opinions, folks?

You might want to take a look at Mantic Games' new werewolf figs, the paintjob they gave them is horrible but I'm sure you could find a use for the minis somewhere in your army. Looking great so far btw, the Hordes figures look perfect in your army!
