I'm putting together a list of 9th Edition Rumors, I will be updating this thread regularly. Now that my army is finished I'll be doing a lot more work on guides and compilation type threads that I've started here, it is my hope that I can bring some of the more credible rumors here along with their sources for you guys, because frankly it's pretty interesting to consider, and I value the discussion.

NOTE: If you are supplying rumors, please cite a source so I can include it here. Sourceless rumors will not be reprinted in the list below.

If 9th edition were coming out, it would have the rules for all of the armies found in brief within the Core Rulebook. This would be for a player's reference to know the gist of what they might face against, not so much to make an army list and play from.

That said, if 9th edition were coming out, any army that does not receive a hardback 8th edition rulebook will notice that in the 9th edition core book their rules will be slightly more detailed, including points costs changes and the like; but they would still need their 7th edition arnybook to play in earnest.

Said armies would also be the first to get updated with 9th edition books if the new edition were coming out.

Also, any armybook after and including Lizardmen also is being built with the next edition already in mind, regardless of when 9th is actually going to come out.

My initial thoughts are that WFB seems to be moving toward a model similar to 40k, sources indicate that we'll see all of the rules available for iPad, Kindle, and Android devices and smaller supplements to existing armies as well. My guess is that we will also see the return of allies, though this is completely unsubstantiated. But, it fits. With the Compendium format it seems reasonable to assume that they'll push for sales across the armies rather than just hoping everyone will buy every army.

It also appears a bit update is in store for GWs online presence, including but not limited to an integration of the Forgeworld products on their store. This could be huge for Americans looking to get a Chaos Dwarf army going or other such goodies.

interesting... I did here they are trying to simplify it a little as this version had too many special rules. While I do agree it has a LOT of rules, I think that's what separated WFB and 40k. 40k seemed to be played more by the younger generation, then the more civilized and mature played WFB :P ... Of course, that's just my observations

More rules doesn't always mean a better or more tactical game, in fact I'm a huge fan of Hordes of the Things & Kings of War, both with a lot less rules than warhammer.
With that said however I love 8:th edition, I would just make a couple of minor changes & then it would imo be a perfect game:
* Tone down magic, a lot
* Make steadfast less op, at least let a flanking unit break steadfast
* Less specialrules, use the rules in the brb instead
* Cannons shouldn't be giant sniper rifles
* Add a few scenarios that isn't about killing only, more objects, this would make deathstars worse.

I love the concept of Allies and can not wait to build a united force of Chaos.

LOL Cannons have pretty much ALWAYS been giant sniper rifles :P the only reason they got better at it is they changed it so you didn't have to guestimate distances... this made them a LOT more accurate.

No more White Dwarf? I havn't bought one since 2000 but that is kind of sad. Are they planning just a digital version or is it still early days in the speculation?

It's a pretty credible rumor, word on the grapevine is that they're moving to a weekly paper format. With big mega issues once in a while (quarterly maybe). New name, etc. Still a bit early to say, but sounds like it has some possibilities. Honestly, I'm surprised. I really expected them to just go digital, like Dungeon and Dragon magazine, etc. Print Magazines don't make much sense for niche markets. My guess though, they're trying to keep up with the internet, without giving in to the internet. I reserve judgement till I get my hands on the new mag, but my hopes aren't that high honestly.

White Dwarf info from the Games Workshop Hilltop East store in Virginia Beach, VA:

Some of you may have heard rumors about White Dwarf. Here is the actual details. Monthly White Dwarf will be replaced by a new weekly magazine, 32 pages costing $4.00 per issue. There will also be a new monthly magazine called Warhammer Visions, This will be a huge 232 page monster every month priced at $12.00. My understanding is that the White Dwarf weekly will still be devoted to the announcement of new releases. So we will get lots more new releases! The Warhammer Visions magazine is going to be devoted to hobbying, battle reports, and tutorials.

and a follow up regarding the pricing.

Well only prices for physical magazines have been announced. I would wait and see what digital prices will be. Yes to collect both magazines it will cost more per year, but we will also be getting an extra 3000+ pages of materials a year.
