Hey all, I've only just gotten back into warhammer after a break of a couple of years, so after getting the new book and reading up on some online threads I came up with this list: Demon Prince Nurgle Level 3 Flight Chaos armour Gifts: Chaos familiar (+1 to channeling and knows extra spell) Soul feeder Scaled skin Items: Charmed shield (1+ AS, discount first hit) Dispel scroll 495 Throgg 195 Exalted hero Tzeentch Disc Shield Dragonhelm (1+ AS, 2+ WS vs flaming) Sword of might 183 Exalted hero Demonic mount Enchanted shield (1+ save) Tzeentch Talisman of preservation Third eye of Tzeentch (re-roll 1’s on ward saves) BSB 240 Points: 618 Core: 3x 5 warhounds Vanguard (40) 120 7 Trolls Two hand weapons 266 15 Chaos Warriors Shields Mark of Nurgle FC 285 Points: 650 Special: 1 Chimera Regenerating flesh 245 Rare: 2x 3 Skullcrushers Musician Ensorcelled weapons (244) 488 Points: 2496 I plan to run the army with the two skullcrusher units in the centre, and the flanks guarded by Throgg's unit and the unit of warriors. This way the crushers can't be diverted as easily as if they were on the flanks, and I have two rather reliable units on the flanks that can take a charge and hold (trolls and nurgle warriors). The BSB will either run alone in the very centre between the crusher units, or join one of these units. It really doesn't matter, as he doesn't get a LOS roll anyway. I feel that he's seriously well protected from missile fire anway, as he's got a 3+ ward save, and re-rolls 1's on that ward save. Combined with a 1+ AS, t5 and 3 wounds he is pretty durable in my opinion. If the opponent wants to shoot at him rather than the other targets he is welcome to be my guest and try his luck. I also like the Disc hero, as he doesn't cost too much and can fulfil many roles. Again, he is well protected, even if he only has a 6+ WS, and he can serve to hunt war machines or pin down units. In all, I think the list has many different threats, making it hard for the opponent to deal with all of them. There's three deadly units (the crushers and the trolls), and plenty of high-strength attacks to deal with armour. The two fliers should help against the war machines. Here are the things i'm unsure of: Is it ok for the demon prince to be level 3, or should I find those points for the final level somewhere? He already knows 4 spells and I honestly can't think of a good place to shave off those 35 points- possibly the equipment on the disc hero to make him even more expendable. On the other hand, I also feel that a unit or character with flaming attacks might be a good investment with all those regenerating gribblies running around nowadays. Would you suggest getting that burning body upgrade on the prince, for instance? Or perhaps the flaming attacks banner on a unit of crushers? Also, what lore do you suggest? Nurgle and Death both seem excellent, but I'm tending towards death right now, especially due to the Sun. Anyway, please tell me what you think of the list, and I'd be happy to hear your advice :) |

Hey man, Not a terrible list but, Your Demon Prince is kitted out illegally. You cant take a Chaos Familiar and a Dispell scroll on the same model. The Chaos Familiar counts as an Arcane item so that alone makes taking the Scroll and the Familiar illegal. Also, Taking the Charmed shield AND the Dispell scroll on a DP cant be done. The DP only has 25 points for Magic items and the Dispell scroll + Charmed Shield =30. So your kit needs to be changed a bit in order to make him legal. I'd suggest dropping the Chaos Familiar and the scroll. Makeing him a lvl 4, and then giving the DP the Dragon bane gem and the other trickster's shard. 4 Spells is plenty, Using lore of Nurgle OR death you'll get what you want most of the time, and at lvl 4 you'll be able to stop most of your oppoennt's big spells unless he IF's them through. Also, the Charmed Shield, Dragonbane Gem, and Other Trickster's shard is a popular build for DP's. (Its my kit out) But instead of the Shard some people like to take the sword of striking. (up to you) In order to get the 10 extra points to make this kit work drop vanguard off one unit of dogs. Other than that, the list looks solid and your plan for it is a good one. Run a few games with it and let us know how it goes. :) |

Thanks for the tips! I completely missed that my demon prince was illegal. I think I'll listen to your advice and make him level 4, but wouldn't it be better to give him the burning body gift instead of the dragonbane gem, to give him flaming attacks too and let him cut through anything with regeneration? I know it makes him vulnerable to models immune to flaming attacks, but how common are they? Also, I've been thinking about the chimera. At 245 points its quite an expensive model, and with only 4 wounds and regeneration it seems a bit fragile. So I've been considering replacing it with 5 knights of nurgle with musician, standard and ensorcelled weapons. Comes to exactly the same price as the chimera, 245 points. I feel that this unit hits just as hard as the chimera, and while it is a bit less versatile it is also much more durable. It can't be insta-killed by a cannon (or even worse, a skullcannon), or anything with flaming attacks. What do you guys think? A good idea or not? |

What where is the true Champion of Chaos in your list Mr Scyla? [wink] Throgg is a beast and love his S5 breath weapon. Good list overall and lot of nice tools to play with. |

Personally I like the Chimera more than Knights but your kit out isnt a terrible choice either. Comes down to preference and play style. :) Your idea for the knights is a good one if it works for you. Best advice I can give is to try it out your way and adapt the list to fit your needs. :) As for the Burning body, the reason I'd advise against it is because the 5 point Dragon bane gem and 10 point Dragon helm makes opponent's basically immune to flamming attacks for dirt cheap. When in combat the DP will have to accept challenges (Unless something else can, then your in luck!) and be stuck against a character he cant hurt. ALSO, with your 1+ AS, the first Lore of Metal using wizard you encounter (They're very common now a days) will kill your DP off VERY fast. So, since the points are so limited for magic items on the DP a Dragonbane gem is almost essential. Not to mention, if you run into a unit with the Banner of Eternal Flame its basically free points for your DP. lol! Bottom line though is if the kits work for you then use em! :) |
