Fireballs happen. Especially in ruins. You know, when it's funny. Or not. Maybe giant robots happen. |

Aside from miles and miles of ocean, the most common feature of the world is the ruins of ancient civilizations, scattered all around the place. These ruins are the primary workplace of Diggers, due to the relative abundance of Refractor Shards and lost technology within. Some are frequently visited, while others have yet to be discovered at all. In either case, the ruins are where much of the RPG's action resides, and making a trip or two can often yield a fair profit. _________________________ Collection Run As mentioned earlier, certain areas have become commonplace to Diggers, and have been completely mapped out for the benefit of future visitors. That said, various treasures can still be found in a well-traveled area; this is known as a Collection Run. A Collection Run can be initiated by any player, by posting a thread in a "Ruins" Forum or Subforum. GM Assistance is not required; the Collection Run takes place in an already-explored part of the Ruins, meaning the player dictates whatever happens over the course of the thread RP-wise. Only TWO Collection Run threads may occur within the same Forum at any given time; this includes Collection Runs in Subforums of the Ruin in question. If a player wishes to perform a Collection Run in a particular area that is already full, he/she must jump in on and/or interrupt a run in progress. The goal of a Collection Run is simple: stay within the thread's confines for 24 hours, without being interrupted. If an interruption occurs, be it an intrusion from another player jumping in or a GM spawning some sort of additional obstacle, it is up to the player to deal with it; indeed, even if 24 hours have passed, the Collection Run will not be considered over until the interruption has either been removed or otherwise rendered harmless. Once over, the player participating in a Collection Run receives a Zenny prize that varies depending on the Ruin site visited, and possibly additional rewards if a Staff Member sees fit to add them. If more than one player is in a Collection Run thread at once, the reward will be split as agreed upon by the participants. Of course, this can (and will) lead to more than a few disagreements. Working together with a friend or coming to an agreement with an interloper can often be the easiest choice, but being the last person standing at the end yields the best rewards. If a character is reduced to 0 HP during a Collection Run, he/she is considered Defeated and will be unable to either continue fighting or receive a reward from the thread. He/she will also lose Zenny equal to half of the potential reward value of the area in question, or an item of equal value (player's choice). Any players left over in the Collection Run may add this lost booty to the reward claimed at the end of the Collection Run. As time goes on, the rewards granted by Collection Runs in different areas will change; if over-farmed, the value of a Ruin will decrease, and an area left alone for long enough just may accumulate more Zenny to be found. Of course, these values may just randomly fluctuate for no controllable reason whatsoever. In any case, these values change at the beginning of every month, and are listed in the Forum Descriptions of the Ruins. _________________________ Exploration of the Unknown Of course, the Ruins certainly haven't given up all of their secrets just yet. There's plenty of sealed or locked areas within known Ruins, and even new areas just waiting to be found! Of course, entering or even finding these uncharted territories is a rare honor, one that must often be earned. In order to start an Exploration, you must first make a request to a GM or Staff Member via the corresponding request topic. An Exploration will be completely impossible until a GM has been secured, and agrees to oversee the event. Bear in mind that, due to workload or simple inactivity, a GM may not be available at all times. Impatience may simply ingratiate you in the eyes of the board, making the opportunity to perform an Exploration even more unlikely, so please bear with any 'lag' or other unforseen problems. Finally, keep in mind that you may NOT choose the location of a requested Exploration; that is for the GM to decide, so try to enjoy the surprise. Once you've secured a GM, you will be notified via PM, and will receive a special item of some sort, usually a key or map that will allow access to the new area. A special Closed RP Thread will be made for you by the GM, in order to facilitate the scenario. You MAY invite another player's character to join in on the Expedition, though no more than 2 players total may participate. Mecha do not count towards this character limit. From this point onward, your character will be set in a scenario written and controlled entirely by the reserved GM, though a substitute may intervene if the Staff approve. Your goal is to complete the scenario as dictated by the GM; the object of the session will differ every time, and the conditions of the area itself will be similarly unique. Upon completion of the Exploration, the player will be given a reward determined by the GM and at least 1 Staff Member; these can range from incredible sums of money to rare items and treasures, to even weaponry and equipment normally unobtainable in stores! Needless to say, an Exploration is well worth the effort. If your character's HP should be reduced to 0 during an Exploration, he/she is considered Defeated, and will lose half of his/her money, as well as all items in his/her Battle Inventory. Be sure to understand your limits, and don't be afraid to pull out if things go sour at the last minute! Explorations are considered to be Closed Topics: without the consent of all participating players, the GM, and at least 1 Staff Member, other players may not jump in or interrupt. Explorations may also only be attempted once; after its conclusion, an Exploration area will treated as Explored Territory for use in Collection Runs. Each Exploration is a rare and unique thing, so be sure to enjoy it while it lasts! Edited by Infiniti, May 18 2011, 07:36 AM.
