Shackles and Shadows Part 1 There was a pungent smell in the air, as the blonde android inhaled a single, long exhaustive breath. The aroma smoothly glided through his nostrils and gently filled his lungs as the darkness terrorizing his field of vision, was slowly pushed away by the light breaking through the creases of his eyelids. It stung at first, as the radiant beams of particles distilled the darkness, causing small tears to well up on the side of his crystal blue irises. With blurred vision he awoke, groggily coming conscious as silhouettes flittered about in front of him. “He’s waking, get master Isshin at once.” A voice commanded. Its tone was rough and stern, one that sounded distinctly authoritative in nature. Finally, things were starting to come together, as the tiny nano-scopic robotic life forms coursing through Leon’s blood, kick started the synapsing process in his brain. It was at this point the pain hit him. Pulsating from the side of his skull, throbbing as if he had been struck with a hammer, Leon cringed as the aching sensation consumed his senses. “What happened?” He mumbled under his breath as the shapes around him finally came into focus. Where am I? The darkness evaporated into a dim eerie glow from lights bordering the wall of the room, only adding to the mystery of his present location. Men garbed from head to toe in jet black armor guarded the only entrance of the cell, standing with authority with permission to prevent their prisoner from escaping. “Tell me where I am!” Confidence was the last thing Leon bolstered in the midst of adversity, and this situation was no different. In an attempt to bolster his claim for information, as well as a defensive countermeasure, the blonde assailant lurched his body forward from the floor, only to have the cold iron shackles drag him back to the floor. With a thud and the jingling of the metal bindings, Leon found himself once again in a seated position, the guards unflinching at his attempt to attack. Damn… Leon was all but discouraged, but for the time being he would have to remain put. Minutes passed like hours in the dim light of the holding cell, Leon’s only companions to relieve him of the humming silence were the empty blank stares from the eye sockets of his captor’s helms. However, as if responding to communications from beyond the walls of the room, the guards sprang to life. Turning on a dime, the soldiers stood parallel with the door, their right hands springing from their sides into a salute as a hiss pervaded the air. “At ease men.” If Leon’s attention had slipped, his mind quickly regained focus as his deep blue eyes snapped to the door of the room. The voice that spoke beyond the void was familiar, yet still impersonal enough that he could not place a face to its tone. Obeying the commands of their superiors, the guards lowered their salutes and turned to the side once again as their general entered the room. “You…” Leon muttered under his breath as the painful throbbing returned to his head. “You’re the one from the lab!” The solder shouted as he began to writhe in the chains, attempting to break free. “Where am I and what have you done with the doctor!” There was a new fury burning within him now, a flame of questions that needed answers, and this stranger was the one to answer them. So hasty to ask questions, The voice echoed in his mind, bouncing from the corners of Leon’s skull. Why should I tell you anything at all? There was arrogance in the stranger’s tone, the likes of which only made Leon even more angry. “The hell you’re not going to tell me anything, I’ll break out of here and kill you if I have too!” Leon struggled at the bindings around his hands again, summoning all the ki he could find within him and surging it into his fingertips. Doubtless you’ve figured it out by now. Again the voice echoed in Leon’s mind, the android still oblivious to the sound ringing between his ears. Before Leon could register Inoko’s telepathic advance into his mind, he found no ki within him. The energy was being negated and absorbed by the shackles binding him to the floor. “God.” He sighed with frustration as his piercing blue eyes stared into the mask of his captor. “Have you succumbed to reason? I trust you will find those restraints more than adequate for containing someone of your power.” Inoko’s voice was audible this time, real as it could be as it fell upon Leon’s ears. However, if you agree to cooperate I might just let you out of those and we can talk like men.
