Salt; Salt of the earth

What makes us the salt of the earth?
Is it just that we have proclaimed our salvation in that we say we have encounter the Lord Jesus through a ‘salvation’ experience? Is it that we have continued from that moment of salvation to ‘know Him’ and walk as He does?

It is the latter not the former. We can ‘say’ all we want concerning the Lord Jesus. We can speak well of Him. We can share His truths and display for others through or words His ways, BUT unless we know Him it is empty and without power. However, If we encounter the Lord and continue to encounter Him, pressing in to touch Him and collect the crumbs that fall from His table, then we will know Him and He will know us and from that place will His power and His anointing flow and no other. From that place we will experience the peace that passes all understanding and this is ‘that place’ that the Psalmist speaks to us about in Psalm 91.

This Psalm is a hypothesis. An IF and THEN agreement between us and God. It is a scientific ‘given’ for those of us who understand science and how the ‘if’ and ‘then’ principles work If we understand that this is no different than those scientific laws…it can’t be different because God set it up this way then we can also know that the 'then' is contingent upon the 'if'.

Psalm 91:9-16 says:

9 IF you make the Most High your dwelling…..it is on us and nobody else…our choice so IF we choose to make Him our dwelling
10 THEN no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent.

This is a given and proven principle in the scientific world. IF something does this THEN this will occur.

But God does not stop with just this one blessing. He continues to give us examples of just what this means for us when we choose Him above all else.

11-12 For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. They will lift you up in their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
This is divine protection, the unseen being made seen through the peace we experience and dwell in.

13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
We will defeat the enemy and gain and live in victory.

WHY??? Why would God do this just because we choose to make Him our dwelling place, just because we choose Him above all else?

14 -16 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord “I will rescue him; I will protect him for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

By walking in obedience to what God has instructed shows Him that we honor Him and we love Him; that whether we are in agreement or not with Him, we are willing to obey Him. This shows Him our heart for Him and that we love Him. In response, He protects and provides all we need and even beyond that to our desires. Just as we know how to give good gifts to our own children, He lavishes us with His love and all that is His.

This is what makes us the salt of the earth. If we loose our saltiness, if we choose to continually walk away from His ways and His truths we loose our saltiness and have no affect on those around us. We no longer ‘season’ the world. We become the same as all the rest of what is in the world. If we are the same as all the others and there is no distinction between us and them, then why would others desire to be ‘salt’? Why would others desire to come away and be different? What is in us to draw others to the Father if we are the same as they are?

I encourage us all to “Make the Most High” our dwelling place so that we will all live long and prosper in this world.

Blessings!

I like the way you presented the "if... then." I remember in one of my stages of growth I had to fight "something" I was being taught that was saying that the promises of God are "unconditional." It was a battle. I saw others who were all for it and their "discipline and fear' of the Lord deminished to the point where they began to justify their own agendas as that of being the will of God.

I also battled with the verse that tells us that we are the salt of the earth.. but if that salt loses it's flavor, who can restore it? I walked under condemnation and fear of that verse everytime I sinned. Alas, I thought, I have sinned and now there is no hope for my restoral, my purpose in life as the Lord desired for me is lost forever. :(

Thankfully, the Lord is bigger than my interpertation of a verse in the Bible. :woopi

Barb,

Thanks for posting! This was great! :urright
Just a quick thought. Salt is used as a preserver. We are not only here to be used by the Lord to "preserve" someone's life by leading them to the Lord.
The Lord has made us the "salt" so we ourselves are "preserved!"

Aayway, just thinking outloud with my fingers....

Have a blessed day and hope to see more!
