Last summer, Woodrow, our 11 year old dog died. My husband and I were heart broken. Woodrow, part chow and part pit and who knows what else, was one of the best dogs we had ever had. We buried him with the other lost pets under the old black gum tree. Sandy, his girlfriend of 5 years was heart broken and so very lonely. How many times had I watched as Woodrow would groom Sandy, treating her like a queen. A month later we heard some people had some puppies they were giving away. Living on a farm, it's best to have 2 dogs to chase the critters away. We went and picked up the cutest black lab puppy that we'd ever seen and named him Rocky. Rocky was a very good pup. The 4 cats even liked playing with him and Sandy were starting to enjoy his company. Then tragedy struck and Rocky was gone after 3 weeks. Again, we were heart broken and we decided we weren't even going to look for another dog, God would give us the right dog at the right time. Then came Doo, our neighbor's dog. He's a black giant Anatollian, who everythime he'd get a chance, would come up and visit and stay. This gentle giant was at peace with all the cats, dog, and birds. My husband wanted the dog and hoped that the neighbors would get tired of having to come the 2 miles to get him, but no, they kept coming. My husband wanted to claimed the dog, but I told him, we can't do that, he has a home. We wanted a dog who NEEDED a home. A couple weeks ago, Doo came to visit again, only this time he wasn't alone. He had brought a stray with him. This dog was skin and bones. Around his neck the hair had been rubbed off by a chain or collar, and he was part pit bull. He is probably a year old. We thought ok, maybe this is the dog God sent to us, but we weren't taking any chances of more heart break, so we'll wait 2 weeks before naming him. See there are criteria before we can keep a dog. 1: Sandy must like him 2. The dog can't chase the chickens or peacocks 3. The cats and him must get along 4: He has to mind. Well, the dog has passed the test, except for number 3. 2 cats tolerate him, and 2 cats don't like him, but I'm working on that. He has gained a lot of weight. God answered a prayer through the dog we thought we wanted. So you never know how prayers will be answered. Oh, and the other day I saw HUGO grooming Sandy. And Sandy, well, she was sitting there with a smile on her face that was fit for a queen. |

wow, how special. And... oh... such discipline. One of the tentant's little puppies got out of their yard today and I carried it around for a bit till I could contact the owner. I love that puppy breath. I guess it was good to give it back to the owner when she came to pick it up.. I had a saint benard when I lived in the north and I miss the big-ofe. She was able to run long miles at night because of where I lived. It was so neat because I would let her out to roam about 10 pm and call her back in about 2am or so. (It was Montana and plenty of space to run there) Then, at about 2, I would go out the door and call "cookie." Or take a bag of chips and shake them. In the Montana nights, you could hear for miles. Pretty soon, I would hear this, 'pound, pound.. pound' as those big ole feet would start to run toward home. My heart would just gleem with joy. When I came to Florida, I had to give her away. Too hot for her here. So, this lady who owns a ranch in the Lewis and Clark national forest in Montana said she wanted her. She has a 40 acre ranch surrounded by the national park.. and get this.. 20 miles each way from her home is nothing but wilderness. My baby went to the best spot for her in the world. The Lord is soooo good to us. He took care of my baby. But, anyhow, even still today, when I pick up a little puppy.. I just want to hang on and keep it. I already have two dogs, a cute shih-tzue, and a small shelty. They are soooo great too. I am so glad for you that you have a new family member. Do you have any other birds? A parot or something? stacie |

Hi, Hugo is enjoying his 1st snow. We got a few inches last night and he's been out there frolicking in it. Stacie: We don't have any indoor birds because we heat with wood and indoor birds need a constant temperature which we definately don't have. Besides, I know 4 cats who would consider any inside bird a live snack. Haha. We like the wild birds which we feed. I have a wood pecker friend who will fly up in a tree and have a conversation with me (I've learned 3 foreign languages since moving out to the country: wildturkeze, woodpeckereze, and peacockery. )I keep telling myself, I need to write a book on all the things that have happened since Dennis and I have gotten married. My friends get a kick out of my stories... Chriis |

Chris: Thank you for sharing your quitter adventures with us. I am sorry to hear about the loss of your babies. But I know that the Lord brings animals into our lives to give a joy. He is good. Oh and such an education you have recieved! Man three languages! You need to write that book, and you can practice by posting the chapters here first LOL We can say we knew you when..... Dogs are so funny in the snow! These dogs here know nothing about that. Even Sheena when we first got her, I don't think had ever even been outside in the rain, and was so offended at God that she was getting wet! LOL She got over it. Continue to share. These are fun Blessings Kay |

Hey Chris, I know a language too! Catteroo! Cats talk to me, and I know what they are saying.... or I can read their minds... I haven't figured out which it is yet. LOL Ppl look at me funny when I tell them what that cat wants, or what she or he is doing. LOL We have birds here that fly overhead and tease the cats. They swoop down and act like they are gonna land on their back, and then laugh at them and sweep back up in the air, leaving the cat wondering what that bird is up too. These birds are a little too big for our cats to catch. I think it's the mocking birds that are teasing them. Sometimes I think I hear a little baby kitten, but it's just one of those silly mocking birds practicing all her funny sounds. They will do five different sounds they mimic in one sitting. Stacie should write fiction animal stories too. She is good with describing what an animal does. "pound, pound, pound of the dog". I like the one armed crab one the best! Caroline |

Hi, sorry I haven't been back to this thread but had pc problems. Is your spider story like my aunt's? She finally broke down and went to the eye doctor for some glasses after the lint ball she picked up crawled out of her hand!? Chris |

Oh my my my my.... ugh... yuck... My spider story would begin when I was young, about 13. Where I lived, we had orange trees and those garden spiders would build those webs from one tree to another. ![]() but.. wait... let me back up a minute. See on the picture that white line that goes down the web? That is the area where the spider stays the most. This type of spider builds it web to catch things or if trouble comes.. to send itself into the wild blue yonder. That white stripe also acts as a trampoline type thingy. My little sister and I would take a broom handle up to the web and poke at the spider.. it would start that bouncing. We'd back up and screech a little and then do it again. Trying to take it to the maximum point of bouncing without it taking off into space to get away from us. We did not always win. Sometimes we would push it too much and whooosh.. it was gone. And of course we went screaming into the other county shaking ourselves, checking our hair, our clothes... and crying "moma, moma." You would think we would learn, but we did that a few times. But...... When we moved to a place that had orange trees down near the lake we lived on, and Dad would tell us to go down to the dock to get something for him, and We had to pass through the small grove to get to the dock.. and.. well, it all starts to come together here.. The revenge of the spider world against "little girl kind." Sure enough we would end up walking right through one of those webs. We hated it when dad would send us down after dark, but it was always after dark.. and the spider world was waiting for us. Oh we would try hard to miss any sign of webs.. two flashlights, four eyes... but bingo.. snagged... and then we would run screaming all the way back to the house. I've since then grown up now.. and I rebuke them from my house.. I am so glad your aunt went and got glasses. A crawling lint ball is not what I want. lol stacie |
