Hello Folks Stace showed the way over here so...... I'm 63 and marred for 37 years to a little sweetie I trapped at Fresno State! Of course, she said she trapped me! And she started on me when she was just a very little girl! She prayed to God to prepare for her a mate! Someone she could love and someone to love her back! That's so unfair! To think all those trials I went through were not only to draw me closer to Jesus But, were to make a loving husband out of me! Girls! So sneaky! We have one adult son who betrayed his mom And moved from Fresno, CA to Illinois! I left Zion, Illinois in 1953 for warmer climates However, my wife tells me I'm moving back if Grand Kids should show up! At least the food will be great! And, I'll be able to catch WGN AM over the airways rather than through the Internet! So here I am. An old man with fuzzy brains. I'll probably not post here a lot. I do get into the ruff and tumble mix at the JCSM Christian Discussion Boards daily. I'll just peek in here from time to time To soak up a little Christian love and kindness. And to see The Holy Spirit working in and through God's Kids! Love, Joe |

Meet you on the boards. Meet you in the air! Love, Joe Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. (1 John 4:10) Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. (Psalms 51:10) Pray without ceasing. (1 Thessalonians 5:17) "When I get on my high horse, I usually find Jesus rides off on his donkey." | |

Hi Joe, Welcome! Welcome! Welcome. Sounds like you have one smart lady for a wife there. Praise be to God! Coming from a Catholic background I didn't know you could pray for a godly mate, I just thought I was supposed to be good, follow the Ten Commandments and such. But I have to tell you, God gave me the best with my own sweetheart, Billy. Thank You, Lord! You know, just in reading your intro I have to say that I am sorry we live so far away. Wouldn't mind my husband and I getting together with you and your sweetie, rocking or swinging on a front porch and declaring the goodness of our Lord. Hallelujah! That sounds wonderful! Also, I think we are closer in age than most who come here. Come August I will be 58 years old as is my "older" hubby who celebrated his 58th birthday in February. Hey, may we all be as old as Caleb, still fulfilling the will of the Lord until it is our time to be with Him, amen? We are blessed to have you hear for you are a blessing to the body of Christ! Again, thank You, Lord! We greet you with the love of the Lord and embrace you as family, our brother in Christ. Oh, what a wonderful family we have! Hallelujah! In His love, Joan |

Hi Sister Joan Carol was raised RC Catholic in Hamden, Connecticut. She is second generation American born on both sides of her family. German RC and Sicilian RC! And, she attended a local immigrant Perish Church too boot! However! Her perish priest taught her "Jesus and Jesus Christ Crucified only" during her Catechism! And, I think Jesus teamed up with Carol in her payers! :-) Two against one! Can you believe it! Just by herself the little girl would have out numbered me! And then She had to bring The Number One MAN into the mix! Hallelujah! I surrender! Meet you on the boards. Meet you in the air! Love, Joe PS: Before I forget! Happy Birthday Joan! My Carol is one year older than you'll be. See, those young girls are sooooo sneaky! And still are! :-) |

Hi Brother Joe, Oh, my gosh! No wonder I felt so close to you guys! This is incredible! I was born in New Haven, Connecticut and when I was eight years old we moved to North Branford, both places being right close to Hamden. Hey, Billy wanted me to ask you, Joe, if you were in the Navy? He figured that would be the only thing that would have brought you out here. He's from Missouri. Gosh, there's other reasons to come to Connecticut! Have to defend my state. LOL Hmm. Carol's part Italian, huh? Wouldn't know of the Montano's around here would she? That was my Mom's maiden name. Wouldn't that be something, that we were related in some way. Wait a minute! What am I saying? We are related, through the blood of the Lamb. Hallelujah! Good talking with you. Send our love to Carol. Sending love and best wishes from Billy and myself, Joan |

Dear Sister Joan Oh! Oh! Small world! Carol was also born in New Haven, Connecticut. I think all the really pretty and the really smart girls were born in New Haven! Oops! Nobody else is reading this are they? Carol does not recognize your mother's name. Some names on the Italian side of her family were The Torello's (New Haven and West Haven), The Testa's (East Haven), The Dengenis's (Winsor Locks and had a car dealership in?) and The Ruocco's (Hamden). Her Father's name was Smith! So not much help there! She had Aunts and Uncles all over the place including a Uncle (Smith) in North Branford! You know Up Haven, Down Haven, North Haven, East Haven, West Haven.......... Carol's mother's Uncle had a small store named "Torello's" specializing in auto parts, TV's, etc. located between New Haven and West Haven. Anyway, Carol moved to The Central San Joaquin Valley in 1963 (16). A note for home schoolers: that was when the dinosaurs still roamed around The Wild West I think! She was minding her own business, studying Economics at Fresno State College when, in 1968, this ex-sailor boy lopped into her life! Yeap! USN, stationed out of Charleston, SC, Bubba, And assigned to The USS N. K. Perry (DDR-883) and than to The USS Everglades (AD-24) 1960-1964. It was a dark and rainy night just off the campus when I spied that there gal and dog-gone-it if she didn't just go and steal my heart! Girls are so sneaky! After running away from girls half-way around the world for 8 years, I think God knew I really, really needed a help (mate)! Two weeks after I meet Carol, I asked her to marry me and the silly girl said yes! Married in 1969 (dinosaurs all gone by then, I think!), Son born in 1975, visited Connecticut for the first time in 1983. Bill got the salt-water-in-the-veins part dead bang right on! He just missed the part about God moving His daughter into a West Coast interception pattern! The Connecticut visit was great! Of course, besides The A'pizza, the river rides and old steam train rides, I really enjoyed The Branford Trolley Museum (Now The Shore Line Trolley Museum). And, Boy Oh Boy did I ever enjoy those 2 1/2 hour slow Connecticut family meals! Folks over on that side of the world sure do know how to eat! No Tofu for breakfast either! And, yes Stace, I'll either have to get a real coat and hat and gloves and Long-Johns and boots and...... Or, I'll just plain have to stay in bed from January 1st through March 31st If Carol drags me back to Illinois! Love, Joe & Carol |

Hi Joe and Carol, Gosh, I am amazed how God makes connections. There are millions of people in the world, yet we see how He has brought two couples together with so many similiarities and two wives born in the same town! Glory to God. Is there anything impossible for Him? NO WAY!!! Hallelujah! Carol, I was born in Yale New Haven Hospital. Were you? If not, then it is safe to assume that you were born at St. Paphael's hospital. For the first eight years of my life we lived on West Port Sea Street. That street no longer exists today. Most have gone out with the dinosaurs. As a child I used to love the trips we would make to visit my Gramma in West Haven. She lived next to my aunt and uncle on Andrew Street. We used to walk there from our home in New Haven. Such fun! We would have to go over a bridge that was above the railroad tracks and we'd always hope to see the train passing by. The orange trains were my Mom's favorite and everytime I see them now, I think of her.And did I love our trips to downtown New Haven, Chapel Street especially! Woolworth's, Grants, Lerners. What was the name of the drugstore on the corner of Church and Chapel? It's on the tip of my tongue. The Green was across the street and sometimes we'd feed the pigeons. Yep, life was good! Ah, such sweet memories. How I wish our children and our children's children had some wonderful memories as we had growing up, where you could leave your doors unlocked and your neighbors were truly friends, one helping the other as the need arose. Block parties, fire hydrants opened in the summer so the neighbor hood kids could play in the water and get cooled down. Joe, thank you so much for coming in here and posting. It has reminded me of the rich heritage I had in this country, within my family and community. God blessed us richly in this country as we trusted in Him and look to Him for everything. I fully believe with all that I am that we are returning to such a time as was before us, rich in God's presence, blessings, awareness and need for Him. Praise be unto God! My sister came over today for our weekly get together. I mentioned the names that Carol gave. Torello did stand out for both of us but we could put no finger on any one in particular. Torello sounded familiar to me and she said that she Knew of a girl, Jaimie Torello and her mom's name was Sharon, and also of a Torello Tire store in East Haven, the town she lives in but that's about it. My goodness, when I heard you two got married in 1969 I had to laugh. That's when Billy and I got married! I met him on June 26, 1969 and on July 13th he asked me to marry him, almost the same amount of time between the time you met Carol and asked her to marry you! We gives might be sneaky but you sailors sure move fast! Now, me being a reserved young lady, told him "no" at that time. Goodness, we'd only just met. He asked me again three days later, on the 16th of July and I said "yes!" Didn't want to take a chance this time around! LOL We have have four daughters and they now all live in the same town we do and we are so richly blessed with them and our ten grandchildren. I totally understand Carol wanting to move closer to your son and his wife when they start a family. Grandchildren are such a blessing! Plus, when they get really fussy or have dirty diaper, you can hand them back to their parents! It's kind of like having your cake and getting to eat it, too, when you are a grand parent. God saved the best for last in our lives. Hey, this has been wonderful. Just where do you live? You never know, we might drop in on you one day. Especially if you move to Illinois. It's a tad closer! ![]() Love to you both from us both, Joan |

Hello Folks Fuzzy brains indeed! Thank you Kay for your warm and loving welcome, I've heard, "if you want a home with character you need a home of characters". Thank you again. Hi again Stace. Your home is warm and friendly, a haven for old guys to fellowship with family and with Jesus. Thank you for the kind invitation. Dear Robert I thank you for your welcome and I'll really try to listen when my brothers and sisters speak! I'm looking forward to getting to know you and all the brothers and sisters in this neck of the Net. Bill and Joan, what can I say! The only way we could be farther away would be if Carol and I moved to Guam and you and Bill to move to Bangor, Maine! And yet, it seems we have known each other all our lives! To All the wonderful folks meeting here at Crosslight Ministries, I thank you for your warm welcomes and friendship. I have already read many of the postings or followed many of the links and I'm blessed! If You should catch me hovering over one of Your Posts Know that I have opened my heart to whatever God has for me through Your Writings And know that I'm in a Prayer of Thanksgiving for You, My Family. "Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen." (Ephesians 3:20-21) If you're going to copy, copy from the best! Love, Joe PS: I see my kid sister, Joan, posted while this old salt was still scratching his head and pecking away at his keyboard. So, I'll wait and let Carol reply, if she will. She's never posted on a public site, so it may be just too scary. Although, after living with this guy, what could possibly scare her? She's out gallivanting with her girlfriend. And, she's the shy one on this team, at least until she gets to know you. :-) But, Joan, if Carol does reply, you'll surly get the whole truth You know The truth as told in the time honored ways of wives about their mates. :-) |

Hi Joan, My mom was the youngest of 7 kids.... 6 girls and only 1 boy..... and the boy had no kids..... so the few Torellos around are actually my mother's cousins families. I don't remember any of their names. I think I was born in the Catholic Hospital. I would have to find my birth certificate somewhere to know for certain. My mom and all of her siblings went to Catholic schools. After World War II there was such a housing shortage in New Haven..... That my mom and dad..... Her twin sister and husband..... And another sister and husband..... All lived with my grandparents in their apartment in New Haven! And all three sisters were pregnant! My two cousins were born before I was born. And, their cries added to the household! I am the youngest of the three cousins..... But, on the day I was born my dad found an "apartment"! As I remember his story The City of New Haven bought up rows and rows of Army Barracks that were being torn down in New Jersey..... And then shipped them to Connecticut on flatbed train cars..... And turn them into apartments! My parents and most of my mother's sisters and nieces..... All living with relatives until then, ended up in the same place. I don't remember the street, but there 2 very long rows of 2 story buildings. We were in the back row and, behind us was a chain link fence and then the ocean or river, very marshy. We lived there until mom and dad bought their house in Hamden..... just before I started kindergarten. Now we live in Fresno, Ca, hot, hot, hot! One of the late night talk show hosts last night was talking about how hot it has been in L.A. , in the high 90's. Give me a break! We've been in the high 90's all night. And, 110-115 during the day all this week! Love, Joe's wife, I never write on these things so I'm just "Joe's wife", not me! PS: By Joe..... Carol informs me..... She did not say yes to my first marriage proposal. She said "I'm too young to get married". After all, she was only 21! Of course, being a typical male I only heard yes and kept talking to her with things like "when we are married we'll do .....". So, Carol finally just gave up and started planning our wedding! Too cool! Love. Joe |

Hi Joe's wife! ![]() Carol, thanks so much for filling me in. Wow! There was some very interesting information there. Didn't know about the housing shortage after the war. My parents didn't talk too much about the war. My Dad lost a brother in that war, a paratrooper. He was shot down before he even hit the ground. I never met him. I have an older brother (born in '43), then a younger brother and sister, in that order. Goodness, I didn't know there was a Catholic hospital in New Haven! From what you're describing as the area you lived sounds like it was much closer to West Haven then we were. There were two churches we would attend, one was Sacred Heart the other St. Stanislaus. Being Polish, my Dad spoke the language but never taught us kids to. His step mom didn't speak any English so we didn't have any conversations with her. Now, my Mom's mom was super cool and I really loved her. She would take off to go to Florida every so often and that was the neatest thing to me. My parents were very much stay at home people and our biggest exersions were to go visit relatives. It was funny what you had to said about your Mom and her sisters being pregnant at the same time. That happened with three of our daughters. In a six month period our girls blessed us with three more grandchildren! There were little babies everywhere as must have been with you and your cousins. How funny. There are so many similiarities in our lives, its got to be God!!! I had an uncle and aunt who lived in Hamden. Actually, my uncle and another man owned National Lumber. Does that ring a bell with you? That same uncle, years later, met a very untimely death along with his wife and daughter. A very, very horrific event. Eeks! Is that normal weather for Fresno? 90's at night??? 110-115!!! Whew! I am not a happy camper when it is so hot. You guys must be cranking up the air conditioning! I pray this hot spell breaks for you all there. It has been a hot and dry summer for you and I am sure you are looking for some relief. Carol, I want to thank you for taking the time to share what you have here. God has some brought some kind of connection and it has been such a joy having treasured memories coming back and seeing how truly small our world is. My thanks to you and your husband and especially to the Lord for all of this. Hope we'll get to chat some more and that you will feel more comfortable writing on these things. Oh, I could tell you stories about when I first came on the internet and tried to use the computer. Funny!!! And you didn't say "yes" to Joe the first time he asked you to marry him just like I didn't with Billy. This is almost like mirror images reflecting off of the east and west coast! Now, if you tell me that you two got married in November, well, just knock me over with a feather cause it won't take much! Love your sister in Christ, Joan |

Dear Stace I just read the introduction to your Internet ministry, "The Strongman's Gospel". John Alexander Dowie founded the little town of Zion, Illinois Where I was raised until I moved to Albuquerque, NM {the Lord is indeed powerful over time and space} Amen! Amen! Amen! The drawing of this old Joe to your Internet home is surly, in part, due to the prayers of those Saintly Old Aunts of mine (born 1880-90)! They would pray for their nephews and nieces and they started to include me in 1943. Note: Joan, your big brother and I are the same age. So, the Lord is indeed powerful over time and space! Even over the space between my ears and in my heart! As, I was pretty sure and as I'm now more certain, God has drawn me over here to learn of His Holy Spirit and of His Workings in these times, As well as to fellowship with some of my heavenly family before we make the big move. Now ain't that just too cool! Somebody Loves me! Thank You Jesus! Love, Joe PS: In Zion at 9:00 PM each evening, the bells would chime out over the town "Sweet Hour of Prayer". How's that for a childhood memory! |

Hey, That is indeed a wonderful childhood memory, and yet, graciously, it does not stop there, those wonderful things that the Lord has done through one can as well be done through you and others. Those bells still chime across the time. I am glad the Lord has brought you here. This is His board. Even at times, when it seems so quiet, it is like the seed that we plant and then go to sleep, when we rise, we see the plant. Even in the quietest moments here, He is filling every room with His presence. He is honored and respected here. He has wonderful and devoted people here, being prepared for what He is doing. Come Lord, have Your way with us, in our homes, and in this place. In Jesus Name, for His glory. stace |
