Question: When a person is faithful does it automatically mean that they will be fruitful? I have seen ministries where the Pastor have faithfully served the Lord for many years but their ministries are not growing. I understand faithfulness is important in the Kingdom of God. Could it be that for some God has ordained it to be so? Answer: Numerical church growth is caused by different factors: the call of the pastor to mega church, the type of spiritual form - revelation - that God is bringing through to the specific church, and by the cultural-social built up of the geographical place of the church. For example, if a church is being planted in a small town or in Iraq, one might not see the emergence of a mega church at all - even though the church is growing spiritually. Not all churches are called to be mega churches - some grow in discipleship and conversions through the planting of new churches and sending forth of ministries rather than by retention of all converts in one place. In the same way, not all fivefold are called to be mega fivefold. Some like George Muller or Roland Buck (Angels on assignments) have normal size churches (200 - 500) and yet have a world impact. Also some churches have growth spurts followed by long plateau phases in between. There are also different phases for each church. And some churches touch more lives than they have members. The Bible says that it is God who adds to the church (Acts 2:47). Sometimes an internal structural change can cause multiplication growth (Acts 6:7). I know that in most church and pastoral conferences numerical growth is emphasized with many of the main speakers either with mega churches or mega ministries but this is not always a true measurement of spirituality. The best approach is to always seek to do what God wants to do in each local church - focus on Jesus and true spiritual growth - and let God take care of the numbers. Seymour in Azusa street never had large numbers in his meetings but many of those touched by his ministry became mega church pastors. Charles Parham who touched Seymour's life through was never a mega ministry man. Others who seem to have mega-ness thrust upon them like John Alexander Dowie already had that in their temperament (calling). It is more important that each fivefold minister continue to grow in their walk with God and in their faithfulness to those in their care than to have programs to 'make' church growth happen. In simple answer to your question, Yes, mega-ness is also ordained of God and will take place through those appointed by God and in places appointed by God in its fullness of time. www.eaglevision.com.my |
