Question: When the Church is hit by a sudden downside in attendance , unfortunately it takes it toll on the Pastor. These days many believers commitment are based on their convenience. Could this be an indication of something wrong in the Ministry ? Could it be that people are not been blessed, or they take offense to the Word. Answer: Each church will always grow through cycles. There will be cycles of gaining numbers and cycles of loosing numbers. Even Jesus had His numerical loss when His teaching got deeper (John 6:66). There is some impact from the society in which we live. The true measurement is to ask whether the minister himself is still growing spiritually in his/ her personal walk with God and then also to ask whether the congregation under them is growing in their personal walk with God. The purpose of Christianity and justification for the organized church structure to exist is to 'know God' (John 17:3). If numbers were the only measurement than a number of the cults (moonies, etc) would claim that they are the truth by merely being large in numbers in certain places. In this day and age, numbers is not the only criteria of measurement of truth and righteousness. Some of the mega churches do tend to have shallow messages to appeal to the numbers. When it comes to actual prayer meetings and actual hours spent in seeking God's face, the true numbers from the same mega church are revealed to be sometimes less than the average church because very few of those same attendees would venture into such meetings. From the Spiritual World point of view, there is nothing special in being mega - it is merely the gift of God given in influence and fame to individuals; and who will be judged on how they use the influence and fame. God can easily make anyone from a David the shepherd to David the king or a Joseph the prisoner to Joseph the ruler of Egypt. There is nothing special or anything to boast (doctrinal or revelation or personality of the individual) because it is merely the dispensation of God's grace to individuals, ministries and to churches to have a special influence through mega-ness in their community. There are always 7,000 more who have not bowed their knee to Baal and who have lived righteously in God's perfect Will. For every famous mega international and national Elijah-type ministry, there are 7,000 more faithful men and women of God working obediently in the background who did not receive the same fame or fortune merely because it is not God's destiny for them. As to people leaving a church or ministry, it will always keep happening and each time could be a different cause or combination of causes - personality clash, doctrinal disagreement, methodology differences or just people growing and moving on. Each cause has its own specific reasons and it would be wrong to generalise everything into one category. www.eaglevision.com.my |
