"I'm glad it's over. I have heard it many times in the last couple of days since Christmas Day. A time with friends, family and loved ones. A time of sharing, giving and receiving. And above all a time to stop and thank our Heavenly Father for sending his son to us. And the only thing so many can say is I am glad it's over. Something is so very wrong. That only says that someone's priorities are off. The silent demands and unspoken rules that are ingrained in so many this time of year is something we must take a look at in our own lives. Take a minute and think to yourself, did you ever sigh a sigh of relief during this time of year and think "whew.... glad that part's over." If you did, stop and think, and are honest with yourself a minute, one can only say that if it was something you didn't really want to do. I know.. I know, my daddy said that there will always be things in this life that you don't want to do, and you will still have to do them. But what if when you were bumping through the isles of the local store shopping for that perfect gift. and the only thought on your heart was the face of the loved one your were buying it for, the hope of the joy your would see when they opened the gift. If at that time you treated others just as you treat the person your were buying that gift for? I realize others will not feel the same and were fussing and complaining and being down right rude at times. But you know what? Just a quick smile and a "Merry Christmas" can really make a difference in someones day. I myself had a wonderful Christmas. Didn't really do anything special but I enjoyed the time in the quiet and talk on the phone with family many miles away. I was given the wonderful opportunity to give a hand drawn portrait to a local family of a mother and father. The mother began to cry. She said that they had been together now for over ten years and they have never been able to afford to get a portrait done of the two of them, so she had never had one. It made being a part of the whole thing worth the time and effort and Grace of God to see the look on their faces. To me that made my Christmas. Also while at a local store I was standing in a center aisle and a young man, probably in his early 20's dropped a item he was holding, as he reached over to pick it up I offered to get him a basket. He replied that no he was done, and going to leave. But as he walked on past, he paused and said Merry Christmas. As you know most young men that age are too tough to say something like that. That brought me hope. Although I didn't say it to him, thank you young man. So as the holiday season comes to a close and the new year begins, make each day Christmas. Smile at someone look then in the eyes and, say I hope you have a wonderful day! I bet it will make someone smile. Make sure that you are not going beyond what the Holy Spirit is leading you to do based on self and society made rules that is the result of the lack of peace and joy in doing the tasks at hand . And most of all make each day and each task a time to focus on the people or person you are doing the task for. It will keep us from only looking at our own discomforts and ya know what? You do that and before you know it, running to the grocery store can be fun, or that mundane job that you have to do because no one else will, can be a wonderful adventure and opportunity and you can spread the joy of God everyday of the year. So am I glad it's over?.... Nah! There's tommorow,... the next day... and the next day........... ( if the Lord tarries that is!) Have a wonderful day! Kay |
