Building a Wall & Standing in the Gap!

An intercessor is one who makes up the hedge and stand in the gap

I want to take a moment to share from my study guide Compassionate Prophetic Intercession

Intercession - Definitions

1. An intercessor is one who reminds the Lord of promises and appointments yet to be met and fulfilled.

Isa. 62:6-7 - On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have appointed watch-men; all day and all night they will never keep silent. You who remind the Lord, take no rest for yourselves; and give Him no rest until He establishes and makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

2. An intercessor is one who takes up a case of justice before God on behalf of another.

Isa.. 59:15-16 - Yes, truth is lacking; and he who turns aside from evil makes himself a prey. Now the Lord saw, and it was displeasing in His sight that there was no justice. And He saw that there was no man, and was astonished (appalled - NIV) that there was no one to intercede.

3. An intercessor is one who makes up the hedge, builds up the wall in a time of battle.

Ezek. 13:4-5 - O Israel, your prophets have been like foxes among ruins. You have not gone up into the breaches (breaks - (NIV), nor did you build the wall (hedge.- (KJV) around the house of Israel to stand in the battle on the day of the Lord.

4. An intercessor is one who stands in the gap between God’s righteous judgment and the need for mercy and grace on the people’s behalf.

Ezek. 22:30-31 - And I searched for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one. Thus I have poured out my indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath; their way I have brought upon their heads, declares the Lord God.

Supernatural Safety for High School and College Campuses

In light of the recent shooting on the campus of Northern Illinois University in the United States, I want to turn our prayer focus toward the precious young people filling up high school and university campuses all over the nation, and around the globe. Our Prayer Alert this week is Supernatural Safety for High School and College Campuses.

For those of you who have not heard, a student-gunman dressed in black walked to the front of a classroom at Northern Illinois University last Thursday, Feb. 14. He opened fire on the students in the room, killing 5 and injuring 16 before turning the gun upon himself.

As you may recall, this is not the first time this sort of killing spree has taken place on a school campus in the United States. On April 20, 1999, 15 students were killed and 24 injured at Columbine High School in Colorado, shocking the nation. More recently, 33 people were killed and 23 injured on April 16, 2007 on the campus of Virginia Tech University.

Though this issue seems to have had a significantly greater expression in the United States over the last two decades, it is in fact a global issue. The Dunblane Massacre was multiple murder-suicide which occurred at Dunblane Primary School in the Scottish town of Dunblane on 13 March 1996. Sixteen children and one adult were killed, in addition to the attacker, who committed suicide. It remains the deadliest attack on children in United Kingdom history.

This is more than just senseless bloodshed at the hands of disturbed individuals. Satan has a particular hatred for young people, and is doing all that he can to bring sin and destruction into their lives at a young age, to prevent them from knowing the surpassing love and full life in Jesus Christ and His Kingdom.

I believe our assignment this week is two-fold:

First, I am asking that we pray for supernatural protection and safety for the students of this nation and abroad. Psalm 91 says that “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” In this passage, God the Father is referred to as a “refuge” and a “fortress.”

Please pray that student young and old will find this “secret place!” Pray that believers will be hidden and protected from the attacks of the enemy. And that unbelievers will find refuge in the Only One who can provide true shelter from the evil of the world. May all turn to Jesus in times of distress!

Second, I want us to pray for REVIVAL among the college campuses! The reason Satan is making such a concerted effort to destroy the lives of our youth, is because he fears what will happen if a whole generation of young people falls in love with Jesus. It would be severely detrimental to his business of stealing, killing, and destroying the lives of the inhabitants of planet Earth.

So please pray for a mighty revival to sweep high schools, colleges, universities – even the middle schools, grade schools, and pre-schools of America! May campuses and school buildings the world over come alive with the illuminating light of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are praying for a Jesus Revolution – a “Jesus Movement” even greater and more glorious than the last one. It is time for a breakthrough on the campuses of the world.

God Bless you!
