The Spirit sustains the body. Our spirits should be strong in the Lord. He has made this available to us, this strenth, and even told one of the ways to strengthen our spirits is by praying in the Holy Spirit. (See Jude) One of the examples we can see from the bible is how the Spirit of God sustained life on this planet before life was sustained by the Sun. Did you notice that the Lord said, “Let there be light.. and there was light” in the third verse of Genesis? And then later, after the grass and trees were formed, the Lord then created the sun and moon on the forth day. What was it that sustained the grass and trees before the sun? It was the Spirit of God. God's light that He called forth on the first day was the Light we read about in John 1.4, “in Him was life, and the life was the light of men.” It is the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Jesus within us that give us our living power. I was listening to a tape where the minister was talking about Kenneth Hagin Sr. Kenneth got into some trouble by getting off the path where the Lord wanted him. He was sitting in sunday school class when he felt his heart stop beating. He called the elders around him to put their hands on his chest and feel for themselves how his heart was not beating. Kenneth got the issue resolved between him and the Lord, but how do you think that he kept on living even when his heart had quit. Wouldn't most men be dead? Yes. Most would be dead. But, Kenneth was sustained by the Holy Spirit within him. Kenneth walked very closely with Jesus, and “the life was the light of men.” Another example is in the bible in the book of Numbers, chapter 17. Aaron's rod was placed within the tabernacle of meeting before the Testimony where the Ark of God was, and then by morning, the rod had sprouted, put forth buds, and bloomed. This is an example of the light of God when manifested upon this earth. And this light, Jesus, lives within us. That is why Romans says that it is the Holy Spirit who quickens our mortal bodies. |
