Battling the Thought War The mind is a great battle field. Thoughts are something that some may never pay attention to, which will often give the enemy free access to this "land" and he will seek to overtake it. It is in our thoughts that the enemy plants seeds of doubt, unbelief, and any thoughts that will turn your eyes from our Lord Jesus. Are you sometimes in prayer and struggle with keeping your thoughts focused on what you are reading and talking with the Lord about? Do you sometimes have thoughts that horrify you and you ask where did that come from? Know this, having thoughts that are "terrible" does not make you terrible. After learning the truth in His Word about your thoughts and what you should do, and you still fail to take them captive, that is when you begin to come into disobedience. What do you do? First, you must ask the Lord to help you to bring your attention to the thoughts. Then ask Him to give you the ability to discern your thoughts as to whether they are given from God, or sent by the adversary to turn you away from Him. All thoughts that go against the Word of God, are not from God. When you ask God to begin to show you your thoughts, He will begin to show you, not only the ones that glorify Him, but the ones that oppose Him such as thoughts of pride, selfishness, lust, greed and others. Bad thoughts are like a "worm virus" in a computer. If allowed to stay and not brought under subjection to God and His Word, the whole system will begin to shut down, little by little. At first you may have a thought that "it is okay that I don't pray today. I am in a hurry. God will understand." The path is started and if you allow it to continue, each day, something more will be added to that and before long the thought of not praying at all will not bother you. You have allowed the enemy to turn you from your very source of communication with the Master. Once the adversary gets the hint that you have submitted your thoughts to the Lord, he will do everything in his power to bombard you. But this is something you should not fear. Look at this as a great opportunity to watch the power of the Word of God work to subdue all the thoughts that oppose God. God is the Victor. Yield yourself to Him. He wins. The verse of scripture that this is based on is in 2 Cor 10: 4,5. "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, (5) casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ." The following is a weapon to use in the battle. Speak this out loud. By doing this you are asking the Lord to wash your thoughts of all that is not His. By His Name we are given the authority to bring our thoughts under the submission of God. In the Name of Jesus I bind every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of Christ and bring it into captivity to the Lord Jesus Christ. I bring all vain and unfounded opinions of myself and others and any thought that says that I do not need the provision of God into captivity. By doing this, all strongholds of pride and sin will be demolished like the throwing down of a city wall. All my plans, purposes of my soul, reasonings, imaginations and all the powers of the mind will be taken captive and led into triumph by the good news of salvation of Jesus Christ. Jesus you are the great Captain. In Your Name the battle is waged and in Your power the victory is won. For every power of thought, purpose of the soul, powers of reason, memory, and judgment, I bring under the obedience of Christ. For all things are made for You, under Your authority, and subject to your control. I bring all the plans I have for my life, all my emotions and feelings I bring under subjection to You, my all-conquering Redeemer.
